For those of you that think that the Truckers taking a political stance is something new, then you obviously haven't listened closely to the previous albums. Puttin' People on The Moon came out in '04. And if you haven't noticed, these ain't normal times politically. Don't like the tune, then go listen to Toby Keith.

I love the political stance the DBT's have taken. They're embracing the spirit of rock and roll by railing against the current administration and the system at large. I grew up in the 80's listening to punk rock (when it was still an underground musical scene) and the classic rock that was written during the political tumult of the late 60's. The vast majority of that music is politically left and anti-establishment. That is what rock and roll is about - fighting against political injustice and corruption. It surprises me that there are fans that are angry with DBT's political stance. Some of them have sworn the band off. Those people were obviously not paying much attention. Politics have been in their music for years. It was just more subtle until recently. Cheers to the Truckers for putting their neck on the line for what they believe in! They'll be remembered as one of the rock bands to come down on the right side of history during this time of political division and social uprising. Stay safe, my friends.

@NateofMissouri Honey, you do realize that if you denounce BLM, you are saying that black lives do not matter. Do you understand how taking that stance is racist? Now, capitalism capitalizing on movements to sell products is nothing new, but that isn't what you're talking about, is it?

This song is a VERY different sound, it's really surprising. I'm into this, but I miss Jason and Shonna, too. I think a DBT with only Patterson and Cooley on songwriting lays a little flatter than the big guitar assault of old.
@ARoll9253 жыл бұрын
@@naterainey5958 patterson and cooley are all over fifty by this point, the loud guitars are probably not their jam anymore, most artist mellow as they age, I still love their stuff and am glad they have evolved over the years, it's no fun hearing artists stagnate, I especially love their lyrics nowadays, I love turning them loud and having a cathartic experience, they say alot of what I am feeling nowadays, I love the keys on this tune, I also love that they put the perilous night on this new album, I was so disappointed it wasn't on the unraveling
@ARoll9253 жыл бұрын
@@naterainey5958 I disagree about Jason, simply because his solo stuff is absolutely amazing and if he had stayed in the band we might not have those records, I believe he needed to be on his own, we have two great acts instead of one, I do agree about shonna though. The era after Jason left and she was still around is my favorite DBT era, the big to do is my absolute favorite DBT album, they were amazing on those records, although they are amazing on all their records Also if you haven't heard shonna's band called Shonna Tucker and eye candy you should check them out they are/were really good

I only liked about 3 songs on the last album, I was disappointed. I'm a long time fan of DBT, but they seemed to run the truck into the ditch on the last one. @@davidinnc385 for me he has always been the same. Even before this hyper woke era he was writing about George Wallace and Bull Conner. Not to mention his five star take on Bufford Pusser who me being a descendent of WNC moonshiners I always felt was a right prick. Patterson gets me. The Liberal Southern Expatriate. A breed most people dont even know exists. Finding Drive By Truckers was liberating for me as a musician as well. For a long time I felt like the southern accent wash you had to go through to play rocknroll was ridiculous and in punk even more stringent. Then you know I find a whole genre of punk rockers with southern accents and I found home. From there I worked my way around and found the bands he was talking about like Vic Chesnutt. That mf was Real.

@@chrissawyer4060 Hello my Fellow Heathen! Thanks for the good response and I find it in my KZfaq box on a day when the tides are turning with the presidential elections so my hopes are high and rising. I think I get you exactly when you say you feel like a Liberal Southern Expatriot, I feel it too...and that's a good way to describe being Blue is a Red state feeling surrounded by, well...folks on the "other side". To make a small jump - I have said for a long time that 4 years (1861 - 1865) of traitorous rebellion does not DEFINE "me". That aint MY flag and it damn sure aint my heritage, or one that I would lay claim too. I befuddles me to see folks who think that those 4 years the southern states spent in defense of States Rights (read as the right to keep people as pets i.e. Slavery) defines their heritage. Jeez, cant they see what is really important. Back to a more pleasant subject, I have enjoyed my share of good NC shine and appreciate your vibe on that. Yep, the Southern Rock Opera with their songs about the deep south; Bufford and Bull Conner are some of my fav's. The tread runs deep in all their albums and I have them all. I haven't met a DBT tune I didn't love. I've been to plenty of their shows, probably 15 or so, mostly fairly local when they would come to NC; Asheville, Wilmington, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Winston. And in Richmond, where if you had dinner at the restaurant below the venue, they let you in early through a side door so you could get the seat (or stand on the floor) of your choice before they opened the main doors 15 minutes later. That was the Go Go Boots tour and at that show they came out dressed as cops! There is video of that show on You Tube and when the camera is looking/positioned from the left, I can see my buddy Todd's bald head, arm raised in jubilance. We were on the front row on the left when facing the stage. I can't see me but I was right beside him. First time I saw that video I cried because Todd is gone now. A further distance trip was to DC for a 2 night stand over New Years Eve back about 7 or 8 years ago...and except for the subway ride from the hotel that we took (mind blowing for me) this show and of course all the shows were a blast. Always early at the door and front row if we were fast enough!. I've had a swig of Patterson's tequila once at the Cats Cradle in Chapel Hill. lol good times. and have caught a solo shows of Patterson once as well as Cooley. I would not call myself a musician but I hack away at my acoustic just fine. Me and my buddy Todd (who with his wife and mine at the time, plus a gaggle of friends made up our group when we did go to see DBT in concert) would tune our guitars down, fill our cups up and play as many DBT tunes as we could figure out or form the chords for on any given Friday or Saturday night. lol. Like I said, Todd left me early at 50 years but those days are my favorite memory's of all. Love you my Brother! Heathens Forever ---- David
