Somehow missed this. 0:13 - First looked like the bore was the controlling dim, but another look at the blank dims say it's been rev'd to a one-piece part. 3:38 - I see, but can't interpret a run time. Do you ever program cuts for overnight while you're gone? 9:00 - Finish cut? Gonna be a slow pass to get a good surface finish (don't see a spec, but it could "unless otherwise noted") 13:17 - So the 9:00 cut wasn't a finish? 15:00 -WIH are those marks? They appear consistent; part-handling tooling? 15:57 -Luckily for the heat-treater! 16:03 - The H/T really moves the metal around. 16:37 - Never had to cut really hard parts with interrupted cuts, but that is no surprise. Inserts which deal with hard material cannot be other than brittle. 16:41 - Missed the lube holes on the drawing, now see the notation (0:13) of the supply galleys.

Love the shine you get when hard turning :O (Dont wanna be a keyboard warrior here) maybe for the next one is it possible to mill the keyway in the hardened state? I know fraisa makes tools used for milling stuff that hard. Reckon its less is expensive then sending it to a grinding shop

@SR-ml4dn
@SR-ml4dn Жыл бұрын
Nice work Chris and like the runout is zero, pretty amazing. It looks like the marks are the result from hard jaws or the part was dropped. Could the deep indent be filled out by hard silver solder and then machined by CBN insert as you said they are very brittle.

Not only the man hours, and machine time, but the cost of the material ???? Glad it was salvageable, but that must have compromised the surface hardened thickness, so possibly reduced the life expectancy of the roll.
