In this video I will explain the change in driveshaft geometry on your Jeep, resulting from suspension height changes. I will also install a NP231 Slip Yoke Eliminator from Rough Country. Today we will be installing the SYE on my Jeep Cherokee XJ. This process is very similar to other vehicle models that may have the NP231 Transfer Case. I will show you how to do the whole job from start to finish by removing the old transfer case components and installing the new. If you have any questions that the video does not cover make sure to leave them below.
Thanks for watching! Make sure to like, share, and subscribe to keep these how-to videos coming.

I haven't found the need to replace the chain on t-cases yet. Unless they have a lot of slack and it's hitting the inside of the case, then that would be a good time to replace.

It could be possible that you re installed the large shifting collar in backwards. I've had the same thing happen to a friends jeep. It would go back together fine but not shift into anything other than 2wd. Unfortunately you would need to take it all apart to flip it around. I would check the linkage first and make sure nothing is wrong that.

I'm actually still running the front driveshaft in the rear. RC recommends there Rear driveshafts for a 4-6" lift, so it may be a bit long if you were to go that route. If I were you I would check out Adams Driveshafts or Tom Woods Driveshafts. They have everything set up with the Jeep you enter in. All you would need to provide is one measurement so that way they can get the length spot on for your application.

Hi Austin. I'm in the Netherlands and will be traveling next month to the US. I'm making a shopping list for the new double cardan (cv) driveshaft. A driveline shop near me will be hacking off my oem driveshaft to build a cv driveshaft for me. On the axle end, I'm getting a 8" stub shaft (16 spline) welded on and a matching slip yoke (1310) fitted over it. They think it's cheaper to buy parts for the cv end in the US. My question is, on the new sye end, what are the components of a cv joint that I need? There is already the existing 1310 yoke on it. Do I need 1) a 1310 H yoke, and 2) a Moog 607 centering yoke? And 3 1310 Spicer u joints? Is that it? What did you have on your new driveshaft?

Just starting into the world of xj and trying to do it right. Original rig is spotless. Starting with a full set of stiffeners, lifting 3-4.5”(not sure which) using a long arm kit and it’s clear the sye is a must. After watching both your videos (thanks, btw), I’m gonna pull the tc. Managing the reassembling on a bench just seems like an easier approach to making sure alignments are spot on. Question. When you first split the case, it looked like there was some slop in the chain. What do you think? Is there a natural amount of stretch we just live with? Thanks again.
@OutJeeping
@OutJeeping 2 жыл бұрын
It looked like there was some slop but the shafts ride into the cover that I took off. So when I pulled it off the shafts moved a bit inward and it appeared the chain has slack. But if your chain is stretched too much you will most definitely hear it in 4wd and may see chain wear marks on the inside of the case. That would be the time to replace the chain.
