Join me as I get to drive this thrilling Shadow CanAm car and walk around. Absolutely loved it although it was a little scary!
Huge thanks to Era Motorsport and the Owners from the States. Big thank you!
Huge thanks also to Goodwood themselves.

My grandfather was don Nichols and these cars were a dream to me. I grew up much removed from the time they raced and would visit the warehouse where they were stored in boxes. It is so nice to get to see them racing as they were meant to. Thank you for the great video

Something special about CanAm cars, you feel them as much as hear them. Cracking video Jake, thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻

race drivers were build different back then ur a lucky guy to be able to drive that! I cant even imagine how this car feels. Cant get more dangerous, but also more fun i guess! and who doesnt love to have his feet IN FRONT of the front wheels. :D insane!

Love the effort, but what kind of camera mount setup is that supposed to be? lol

I was there on the Sunday. I didn't even drive one and looking at the footwell of some of these was scary just to imagine! The Can-Am display was also the only thing on track for which I had to put my fingers in my ears for several of the cars. Amazing stuff.

I honestly not sure if I would want to race it. The pedals are hard work to get used to

Thanks for sharing this video! Looked evil to drive and the sideways pedals scrambled my brain 😮 You need to do an Anthony Davidson and collect a model car of every car you've driven in real life! 😁 Also if you ever need someone to stand in and drive random can am cars for you, then I'm available.................................although.............. I might lack the skill..............🤔😆

Terrifying to think of the performance of these cars with the safety standards of that era. Very brave drivers.

Totally agree, these cars are not to be taken lightly. They will kill you if you give it the chance and don’t respect it

Seeing all the kits in the background, you probably know that Otaki did a 1/28 scale model of a later version of that car

Common mistake bu it's Vaillant Porsche, not Valliant. Vaillant are/were a heating company. Shadows are point and squirt cars, so it's max braking to the apex in a straight line, square off and nail it, so I was told by a driver, who's name I can't recall, with experience of them. Foot controls setup was an attempt to make heel and toe easier, actually more a roll of the foot than heel and toe.
@jakehillracing

My mistake, but yes you are correct. I can assure you heel and toe is made impossible with this. The hardest pedal set up I’ve ever driven.

@@jakehillracing Certainly looks strange, but then Shadow never did anything that could be considered normal! Still epic cars though, as was Can-Am.

I was involved in historic motorsports for years and I've seen a lot of interesting cars. There are not many, but that early Shadow, that's one car I'd think twice about driving, it just looks too exposed.

It is rather daunting I must say, but it was a pleasure just to do a slow (ish) demo, although full throttle in 4th isn’t exactly slow! But I’m not sure I would ever want to race it for the reasons you say

What were they thinking when they designed this?! Having not looked at any history I can’t think it was very successful unless the drivers of the time steered it with the throttle 😆
@jakehillracing

I genuinely have no idea. I believe they got so carried away with the fact they wanted it as LOW as possible that it came to the conclusion the drivers feet were not important

Nice video Jake. It's really good to see cars where designers had the freedom to try new things even when it didn't work out. Will you be racing in the revival this year?
