Driving a Lightly Modified E46 M3! (plus surprise 86 car meet)

Жыл бұрынWhile on vacation me and my gf decided to rent something a little special. This E46 M3 was modified with Koni Yellow struts, an air intake, and a beautiful sounding titanium exhaust!
This is just the first impressions of this car as it was the first day I had with it, I was just feeling it out and getting used to the way it drives. More to come ;) Follow me on IG: / dadhatstm

I was at the car meet! I’ve been watching your videos for a little bit. It’s so much fun to watch your BRZ tear it up! I did a K swap and started taking it to autocross and track days this year. I’ll be attending more events in the spring

@@dadhats It’s pretty awesome. I wanted to turbo mine for the longest time, but I kept hearing horror stories from people that took them to the track. It’s much more responsive and the torque is great for daily driving.

@@racerx7707 same! I don't trust subaru motors so no way was I boosting mine lol. do you notice the lighter engine up front when it comes to driving dynamics?

@@dadhats It’s about 130lb lighter up front and it understeers much more now. I’m on stock suspension with upgraded sway bars and was running 2-3psi more on the back tires at a recent autocross just to get some rotation. I’m glad I waited to order coilovers until after the swap. It’s much more clear what kind of spring rates I need to run.

@@dadhats Nice man, what is TNIA? I just started with NASA last year, so Im fairly green lol. HPDE1 at Summit Point x 1, then NJMP lightning x 2, and then just a Hyperdrive at Thunderbolt which was awesome. But March event will be my first HPDE with the GR86 😅

I’ve had my e46 M3 for about a decade now. Glad you chose to rent that. I’ve got the 6MT. It’s a fantastic car. It’s so easy to drive at the limit, though I can appreciate you not driving someone else’s car at 10/10. If you’re looking for a completely dedicated track car, I would recommend an e36 or e46. Both are a joy to drive and incredibly well balanced/easy to save/cheap to upgrade and work on. Even with their stock motors, the M3s hit way above their weight class on the track. Looking forward to the video from Monday’s drive.

that's awesome they're a joy to drive. and I couldn't agree more about how easy they are to drive at the limit! I started pushing the car a bit harder on Monday and was shocked. It does make me tempted to buy one not gonna lie haha. The biggest issue I had with it (ignoring the transmission) was the weight which I've seen track builds shave hundreds of lbs off

@@dadhats the e36 is at least a couple hundred pounds lighter in stock form and both can shed a lot of weight once they’re stripped out. I had an e36 before my e46 and for a track setup, I think it gets the slight edge IMO. I love a good momentum car. You can’t go wrong with either though. The best platforms for a dedicated track car that aren’t going to kill the bank are Miata, 86, e36/46, and s2000. All are fun to drive and have their pros and cons, but I do think a well setup track M car is hard to beat. Such a joy to drive and can pester cars that cost many X more.

God do i love the sound of that S54 with the titanium exhaust. I've got a Z4M and it's wild even stock. These cars are buttery smooth

Drives better than you would think for a car that weighs almost 3500 lb’s and more loaded with fuel and occupants.
