Atlanta is the capital of and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Georgia, with an estimated 2013 population of 447,841.[6] Atlanta is the cultural and economic center of the Atlanta metropolitan area, home to 5,522,942 people and the ninth largest metropolitan area in the United States.[7] Atlanta is the county seat of Fulton County, and a small portion of the city extends eastward into DeKalb County.
Atlanta is considered an "alpha-" or "world city",[17] ranking 36th among world cities and 8th in the nation with a gross domestic product of $270 billion.[18] Atlanta's economy is considered diverse, with dominant sectors including logistics, professional and business services, media operations, and information technology.[19] Topographically, Atlanta is marked by rolling hills and dense tree coverage.[20] Revitalization of Atlanta's neighborhoods, initially spurred by the 1996 Olympics, has intensified in the 21st century, altering the city's demographics, politics, and culture.[21][22]
Tourism
As of 2010, Atlanta is the seventh-most visited city in the United States, with over 35 million visitors per year.[158] Although the most popular attraction among visitors to Atlanta is the Georgia Aquarium,[159] the world's largest indoor aquarium,[160] Atlanta's tourism industry mostly driven by the city's history museums and outdoor attractions. Atlanta contains a notable amount of historical museums and sites, including the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, which includes the preserved childhood home of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as his final resting place; the Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum, which houses a massive painting and diorama in-the-round, with a rotating central audience platform, depicting the Battle of Atlanta in the Civil War; the World of Coca-Cola, featuring the history of the world famous soft drink brand and its well-known advertising; the College Football Hall of Fame which honors college football and its athletes; the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, which explores the American Civil Rights Movement and its connection to contemporary human rights movements throughout the world; the Carter Center and Presidential Library, housing U.S. President Jimmy Carter's papers and other material relating to the Carter administration and the Carter family's life; and the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum, site of the writing of the best-selling novel Gone with the Wind.
Atlanta also contains various outdoor attractions.[161] The Atlanta Botanical Garden, adjacent to Piedmont Park, is home to the 600-foot-long (180 m) Kendeda Canopy Walk, a skywalk that allows visitors to tour one of the city's last remaining urban forests from 40-foot-high (12 m). The Canopy Walk is considered the only canopy-level pathway of its kind in the United States. Zoo Atlanta, located in Grant Park, accommodates over 1,300 animals representing more than 220 species. Home to the nation's largest collections of gorillas and orangutans, the Zoo is also one of only four zoos in the U.S. to house giant pandas.[162] Festivals showcasing arts and crafts, film, and music, including the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, the Atlanta Film Festival, and Music Midtown, respectively, are also popular with tourists.[163]
Sports
Atlanta is home to professional franchises for three major team sports: the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball, the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association, and the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League. The Braves, who moved to Atlanta in 1966, were established as the Boston Red Stockings in 1871 and are the oldest continually operating professional sports franchise in the United States.[citation needed] The Braves won the World Series in 1995, and had an unprecedented run of 14 straight divisional championships from 1991 to 2005.[171]

Nice detour. Been to Atlanta plenty of times. I dont know what area u went at in atl but I remember being like in the very heart of it I had to catch a bus back to NC and everybody was downtown. Clubs were open and folks everywhere. I was like oh my goodness lord let nothing happen. I know Atlanta can get wild like seriously. They had a club down there called magic city. Right where u catch the greyhound. Was so glad I left when my bus came

Traffic is on a whole not as bad as LA. But there are sections that are just as bad especially 1-3 miles from any interchange. 3 million drivers vs 12 million drivers. But even with that there are sections that have 6 to 8 lanes on both sides that do become parking lots for miles.

This is just what I was looking for ,I'm paying a visit to the USA in October 2017 for the first time ,I'm traveling from the uk ,Leeds aka ~circle city ~due to all the roundabouts . I need to get my head around driving on the other side of the road and using my right hand to use the shift, its been about 17 years since I last drove on that side of the road, being a woman I may struggle with my left and right turning at junctions! When your brain is trained to drive the opposite side.

Love the video!! Why not some commentary? Atlanta certainly has a fine downtown, very walkable with narrow streets. Was the video shot on a Sunday morning? I don't see the hustle and bustle that I usually see in a downtown like from a northern city. I will say that Atlanta's downtown is certainly comparable to downtown Los Angeles, however, Los Angeles has far more business districts as a whole and they are all spread out. No comparison to DC's downtown. DC just has a massive downtown with far broader streets/ boulevards. The architecture in DC is richer and because the buildings are of uniformed height, you have a much better vista visually because the streets are lined either in a grid or pie cutting form The downtown population in DC on a work day is very dense.

When I was in the third grade, we took a field trip, I think it was 1980 a long time ago, haha -- and it cost 64.00. So, I went and we had a hotel 4 boys to a room and one of the guys kept talking about his terry cloth shirt. So, there was no excitement on my part, I arrived early in the morning for the bus ride, and our Aquarius teacher ate some of my grandmother's fried chicken in aluminum foil, so we finally get to leave the hotel, and arrived at what looked like a rock, and she called it a Monument, and she really went on and on, but I don't remember even leaving the bus. I have since been in and connected in Atlanta airport countless times, but I never forgot "The Monument" and no doubt it will stand for something. We were from Memphis, TN.

If you never been to Atlanta, you're definitely in for a treat, the city is so beautiful at night BUT lots of people walking in the street, alot of partying in the city so dont drive extremely fast

I work in area I been inside 90% of the buildings your passing. it's nice but you get bored if you always at work. I spend almost 7,8 hours everyday around there. You could spend an hour in around trip of 5 miles there the streets can destroy your car over time driving around there.

I've changed planes there several times. The impression from the air (evening): not much to the city proper but suburbs go on forever. Maybe it's bigger urban core than I thought. From this it looks like a place where someone goes for meetings then leaves asap. Corporate, in short.

I lived in ATL in 2012 and I like Peachtree road. Anything outside of it is just wack. Its a very suburban style city

I used to live in Atlanta until 2011. There seems to have been quite a few changes in the last 6 years like a new light rail system, new city buses (for the better) and I see that unnecessary ferris wheel that seems to pop up in large cities.

Atlanta is a decent city, I stayed at the Peachtree Plaza Westin, and it is my favorite hotel ever. They have got to handle their homeless problem, though. I got yelled at a bit from across the street.
