Driving in the UK - M1 Motorway (Part 2)

A southbound trip on the M1 Motorway, from Leicester Forest East Service Station to the Catthorpe Interchange at Junction 19, where the M1 meets the M6 and A14.
The M1 is one of the two backbone north-south motorways in the UK. The section from St Albans to Junction 18 had been the first intercity motorway in the UK when it opened in 1959. The first extension to the M1 up to junction 24 opened 6 years later in November 1965 and it is this section which features in the video.

I love this video clip. Because it remember me the M6 Motorway, between Sens and Auxerre, in the Yonne district, in Bourgogne's Shire, with one beautifull and suny's winter's weather, with the Hight of Açores ! I hope you one mery Christmass ! Herve from France !

The only thing I fear are those long trucks. One of them put fear in me when he traficketed briefly and was curving into my space. Thank God he quickly went back to his lane.

+seating. they are not driving slow. they are actually going about 65 mph. in England, the speed limit is 70mph but most people go about 80-90mph.

Fox Elcoate It's a motorway service station. Fuel is always much more expensive there as it's a captive market. I try and avoid fulling up there where possible.

Oh same here but it has definitely gone down in price. £1.27 for petrol over M60 way.

Fox Elcoate I've seen even cheaper than that now. £1.21 for diesel last week at the Asda in Sale Brooklands in SW Manchester

I'm an ex pat Brit, living in the Philippines, the price of fuel here, on the face of it looks cheap. It is below half of what it is in UK, but if you compare income like for like, it's scarey. The average Brit earns between 10 and 15 times what a well paid Filipino earns, so in real terms fuel is about 5 or 6 times more expensive here than in UK.

Why do the British trucks, lorries, drive so slow in the UK? In America they are brushing everyone off the highway, unless they are climbing heavy up a grade.

In Europe, regulations say trucks must be limited to 90km/h which is about 56mph. All new trucks are fitted with speed limiters and heavy fines can be given if they tamper with them.

In U.K. Trucks are limited to 60mph.
