On our recent trip to Florida we drove for the first time! Hopefully this video will help first time drivers in the US from the UK (or anywhere!). We rented with Alamo but processed this via Andy@discountfloridacarhire.co.uk! Cant recommend enough, also provided the SAT NAV for use in Florida.
The Car we rented was from Alamo at Orlando Airport Terminal A and we picked the Ford Edge. This is a 5 seater Automatic SUV that fits 5 suitcases.

As an American living in Florida since 1989 but originally from Boston, Massachusetts I enjoy your videos. I take all of this for granted so it is nice to see a visitors perspective. 👍

Awesome thanks Tony. Obviously not aimed at yourself as such but really happy you've watched. It's a pretty daunting experience for 1st timers. I'd say getting used to the car was harder than the roads.

Nice video...N is Neutral. Like the center position of a standard gear shift.

4 way stop was a little confusing for me also almost went over spikes when leaving a car park in Tampa as i did not see the no entry sign. I got a GMC Terrain AWD easy car to drive.

You can turn right on a red light at a junction or traffic lights except where it is posted that you can't . However before you turn on a red light you must STOP!! It's the law.

Good video Crazy Burger. I have to imagine switching which side you drive on and which side of the road you drive on are two factors that aren't easy to get used to. I hope you have a great trip and stay safe!

Thanks! Yeah we had a good one. It's definitely a bit daunting but surprisingly I got used to driving the other side pretty quick. I dont think it'll ever feel natural to me but it's easier than you might think. I dont think I'll ever get used to turning left on a red light if clear..

We always choose a brighter coloured car as they stand out better against all the black and dark grey cars in the car park . Be interesting what your thoughts are on this once you’ve been to one of the parks.

@@ianpaterson1447 that's a good shout as trying to find a black car wasn't easy! Majority of cars seem to be black, grey or white!

You're not supposed to use the parking brake like that. You should be stopped with your foot on the brake displaying brake lights. In the US that will get you hit from behind as people will think you are not stopped.

That's how the car works.. when stopped at a red light in a ton of traffic, nobody is moving, everybody is stopped. Sitting with your foot on a brake is bad practice.

Wrong. Your foot should always be on the brake when you're idling and stopped. One of the first rules in driving an automatic car @@CrazyBurger
@CrazyBurger
@CrazyBurger 8 ай бұрын
@@casmatori it's completely unnecessary. Modern automatic cars apply the brake assist for you. No need to sit with your foot on the brake at every stop or idle. Someone hits your rear, that's their issue. I'm referring mainly to waiting at junctions, lights.. If you were driving a manual car you wouldn't always sit with your foot on the brakes. Stop and applying hand brake. This seems to vary driver to driver.

That may be, but you still want to drive like others will expect. Note that you could still be found partly liable or dealing with an uninsured motorist. You don't want to get into an accident if you can avoid it here.
