We were able to start the 2005 Saturn Ion Redline that had been apart and sitting for years in the last video. After it was running we discovered the clutch went straight to the floor, it was late at night so we had to throw in the shop towels. Today we're looking at another LSJ Ecotec based car (a Chevy Cobalt SS), figuring out what's left to hook up on the Redline, and taking it for the first drive.

JR is my favorite car channel. He’s entertaining without being fake or annoying, and there’s a really good variety of cars, not just unobtainable super cars (although he does have an R8!) or $$$$$ muscle stuff. 👍🏼 I hope you guys get to make lots more fun to watch videos!

I've been a sub for like two years now. And what amazes me is JR only has 115k subs. This whole time I never paid attention and thought it was twice as many. Yes sir been there done that on the clutch bleed. The issue I eventually found is that for some unknown reason GM decided to put a plastic bushing on the slave cylinder rod where it attaches to the clutch pedal arm. When they wear down you still have enough stroke to make the clutch work but just not enough for a full stroke of the slave to get all of the air out when bleeding. GM has the bushing available or the bottom of a beer can can be trimmed to just the right radius to match the rod end.

Had an Ion and it was great. Bought it new when gas was cheap and got a great price. Drove it 3 years and sold when gas was high and I got a new company car with free gas! Man, that was perfect timing and I sold the Ion for more than I expected. :)

I watched JR go right past me today on I-70 just outside Goodland KS my jeep couldn't keep up. The only time I got close was when the cop was in the median. Have fun.

Wow, ya those are a pain to bleed. I work Almost exclusively on LSJ cars and sometimes the redlines bleeding problems are caused by the clutch petal having wear in the socket. Right now on our channel we are putting an LSJ into a Pontiac fiero from an 05 redline. Caught you from hoovies garage, sorry about your job man, but pretend this is the dream!

Got a 2003 Saturn Ion for free and fixed it up over 1 year..I'm no gear head just a dyi'er and I know my limitations. My daily driver. I anticipate getting 400,000 miles out of it. I maintain my vehicles.

Lmao. I struggled bleeding the clutch on my saab. It's actually connected to all the brakes, so people have actually bleed the clutch through the bleed nipples on the calipers. But I just hooked up a pump with an adapter to the reservoir, put a piece clear tubing to a bucket from the bleed nipple on the clutch TOB, add 30 pounds, and just continuously add fluid when it gets low. Bled my clutch and all my brakes in about 15-20 mins. Pedals feel great.

Yeah. Bleeding the clutch slave cylinder is a *itch. If you hit the clutch pedal at the beginning more than a tap it will pretty much screw up your chances of bleeding. And, you can tap it only once every several seconds which gives the bubbles a chance to migrate to the reservoir; and you gotta do that for awhile. Once you start feeling a little "pedal" you can then start pushing the pedal down farther, but always allow several seconds between pedal pushes.

Heck yeah! I have a 97 SL1 with 185,xxx miles. Still runs like a top. Just needs an A.C. compressor and it'll be good to go. Got me to La from MI last year.

Damn. I feel soooo old. I'm the proud owner of an 04' Redline. I bought it new in Oct. of 04'. It's got less than 80k on the clock and I've loved it since day one! There's not a whole lot of regard for these guys and I find that sad. They really were the forgotten domestic "tuner". Really the first, it came out before the Cobalt. But I guess most folks just looked and said it's just a Saturn...which is kinda fucked up, because even basic Saturns are solid cars. These were something different!...not to play on the marketing too much LOL =)

You have the factory boost gauge from the competition package but are lacking the projector fog lights. Im gonna venture to say its not a comp package. Pop the trunk and lift the carpet to find the RPO codes, look for G85 (LSD) to confirm comp package. The comp packages are especially rare..only 1096 (comp packages) were made over 3 years (none in 2004) and I guestimate about half are remaining. Cheers Side note: Take a shot everytime I typed comp package lol

Nice job! Reverse bleeding is a common practice on dirt bikes and other motorcycles. Its often necessary due to the large vertical distance between the master and the calipers.

Had to bleed the clutch on my son's ion Coupe this summer it drove me crazy. After 2 hours I found out that there was two sections in that Reservoir you can't really tell but there's a section just for the clutch and there's a section for the break area. The clutch section empties really quick and that's where your drawing in air

I knew this cobalt existed but I did not know it was the same as the saturn. alot of later saturn cars are not really saturn cars which make it confusing.

@@lewiskemp8937 the only "SATURN" was the original S-series. It didn't create enough profit for Saturn to invest in R&D to devolpe it's own unique products. GM created new models using shared platforms from other GM divisions. Had Saturn survived its new products would have been rebadged OPEL's. Some models that had been in the early design stages subsequently became Buick's.

We got them engines in the UK but we didn't really get the supercharged version and if you's got a hold of them superchargers and everything to make a standard engine into a supercharged one you'd make a lot of money shipping them to the UK :D
