Thanks so much for these video's Kris! One of the best series of 'going on holiday with an EV' I have seen. Not an easy' 'we have no experience and take an ev on a long vacation' video, but a trip done properly. And with properly I mean like someone who does own an ev for more than just a few days would go on a trip. Looking forward to the cost part. Maybe also include in that video what it would have cost 'full price' at Ionity instead of discounts you get with your Audi card (also the supplied Polestar Plugsurfing card has a discount on these since 1st of July). I completely agree on the comfort and features of the Polestar 2 that makes this an ideal car for long road trips. Mine has the same color and interior, but the 20" rims so I might be biased ;) Idea for a next trip could be to make the trip with a friend with a different EV from a different price class to compare 2 ev's. And as a bonus it's always nice to to travel with a friend.

Totally agree! Only place I think you screwed up 😜 @Kris, was _not_ just waiting in line at what should have been the last charging stop. I could probably have gotten the same idea as you.. however, you definitely lost some time there, added a lot of stress and could have ended up on a flatbed. 😬 Good learning.

I'll cheer the day I see the charging network maturing enough to not feel intentionally stagnated. Most charging locations don't even have enough chargers to compete with the number of gas station pumps lol. It's daft that the nearest gas station will have 4 pumps allowing up to 8 cars, while it's got a little plot in the corner where 4 cars can charge - usually at 50 kW.

First of all Kris, thanks for doing this series! I really hope you get some great time with your daughter after this time away. As I know you used to have an XC90 T8 before, how would you compare the seats to that car? I finally managed to get a test drive in the Polestar 2 the other week and as a current XC60 T8 driver at the moment I loved the Android infotainment and voice control. I also love the Polestar 2 design, but just as in the Volvo XC40P8 that I've also driven the quality feel of the seats and of the interior felt inferior. I'm not saying the Polestar/XC40P8 seats are bad, I've had XC40 hires before and they are real good, but they still don't live up to the SPA Volvo seats... The same with noise insulation. I found the XC40P8 and the Polestar 2 having more wheel noise and the XC40P8 for sure also had more wind noise than my Volvo T8 driving on only electric at the same speed. Having not driven the e-tron 55 I feel like that's my best bet at getting closer to Volvo SPA feeling at the moment. Would you agree? I'm all exited about the new SPA2 Volvo/Polestar platform coming. What are your thoughts?

Not afraid to drive in France but Spain make me a little bit scared as EV infrastructure there a bit strange... not so many Ionity chargers and plus I seen for some charging station u have to have a Spanish electricity contract to get RFID card to be able use those chargers. Maybe you know something what is the best charging point in Spain from Barcelona to Benidorm destination beside Chargemap.?🤔

@palengh2849
@palengh2849 2 жыл бұрын
Pilot Assist works flawlessly, and as intended, both in suburban and highway conditions. I use it a lot and it’s quite confident. Volvo/Polestar say you still need to pay attention to what’s going on around your car while driving, so keeping my hands on the wheel makes it think I’m still there. Next step autonomous driving will be available on the Volvo XC90 and Polestar 3, based on the SPA2 platform expected available in 2022. SPA 2 will include all necessary HW for fully autonomous driving, Volvo say.

I am wondering why the PS2 is so thursty. Even the thursty IONIQ 5 doesn't consume as much. Does anyone now if its the motors which are inefficient? Because just design wise it might not be the most aerodynamic EV out there but definetly better than IONIQ5...?
@loolpool748
@loolpool748 3 жыл бұрын
Part of it has to do with the width of the wheels/tires I guess? The Polestar has very wide tires, not very good for efficiency. I also think Kris' consumption is on the high side in comparison to the consumption of my PS 2. Mine consumes around 21-22 kwh/100km at a speed of 128 kph.

@omelvold
@omelvold 3 жыл бұрын
Let me guess, the Porsche Taycan? 😎
@Nord_Mann
@Nord_Mann 3 жыл бұрын
For me yes, but this was a question for Kris. On a budget probably the Ioniq5. The charging speed on this Polestar is just annoying and it almost seems a waste to take up a spot on the Ionity 350kW chargers with cars not capable of more than 150kW charging speed. Do you agree on the Taycan?
@omelvold
@omelvold 3 жыл бұрын
@@Nord_Mann I think it’s so many deciding factors, that it’s almost an impossible question. 🙂 I’d say the Taycan is the best EV on the market by far, although Teslas charging network is better. For many families though, even the Taycan Cross Turismo is too small. And then there’s the price.. I think the IONIQ 5 is a great choice. If you like the interior. And I don’t know if the head lights are good, and how do you mount a roof rack..? For people new to EVs even the Model 3 or Model Y would be very easy to own, but I can’t live with that road noise and EVERY function on the touch screen. Good value though. If you don’t need a lot of space, I actually think the Polestar 2 has so many good things about it, that I could live with those 10 minutes extra charging stops. Like most people. I really don’t fast charge that often. I don’t think the peak speed of 150 kW is the limiting factor, it’s the charging curve. Which forces you to plan your stops and “hunt” for low SOC. Like in most EVs.. For me, the e-tron 55 quattro ticked the most boxes back in 2019. Today, I don’t think you can go wrong with the ID.4 GTX for example. Although I hope they up the charging speed to 170 kW OTA as rumored and keep improving the UI.

Kris, for my own EV, wanting to ensure the long term battery health, I limit charging to 50Kwh and keep charge between 20% and 80%. This is at odds to the regime you used during your trip as you super high chargers, went down to 2% and charged to 100%. I worry about the long term consequences to the Polestar with that kind of treatment. I do not mind waiting at a slower charger and stopping often.
