The Atlanta area is home to the highest concentration of middle/upper class Black people in the United States. Boasting 4 HBCUs, 2 predominately Black public universities(Georgia State University and Clayton State University), as well as a relatively low cost of living, the area has become known nationwide as a "Black Mecca".
The Black American experience in Atlanta is just like any other major American city in that it has its share of major American city problems(ie. crime, poverty, racial disparities etc.). What sets Atlanta apart is its sprawling Black middle and upper class. Many people, Black and White, are not used to seeing Black neighborhoods that aren't synonymous with some level of urban blight. However, in Atlanta areas such as these are abundant.
In this video we explore a few neighborhoods in the city of South Fulton, GA located about 20 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta.
