›› This video follows the journey of driving two horses from Ireland to mainland Europe. It was three days of travelling and required an 18 hour ferry, but we got there eventually! It was definitely a combination of exciting and nerve wracking. Next will be some vlogs and updates from the show!

You and your Dad are such an incredible team - I am sure you appreciate him but give him a hug when he doesn’t expect it. It’s something I wish I had done more often with my Dad - who was so much like your Dad (but we’re kiwis) it knocks me out!!

Your Da is loving this trip so much! I'm so chuffed you have such a supportive family!! The only family member who was ever supportive for me, was my mother. She never missed any local show I was in!! But if I was travelling out of prvince, she stayed behind to mind my younger brothers because my da was in the military. Enjoy your time with your Da!! I can't wait for the next video, Holly! Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦

Glad you had a safe trip and what wonderful accommodation for the first night and the boys really enjoyed their time in the field. Lots of love to you both and the very best of luck in the shows. Wow --- this was so exciting -- and worrying too -- then I thought, sheesh, Holly is a vet. Khal and Dali have a 24/7 vet on board. STill, I would be mighty anxious, with your horses needing to stay so long on the ferry. Clearly, they are troopers, pro-travellers, as you say, Holly. You and your Dad are so very cute together -- I love this road trip for the two of you. Wow, what swanky accommodation for you and the horses after the ferry. And nice to know exactly what to expect when you head back home :) I'm very excited to see the boys jumping at this international show. It was so cute seeing DAli following and duplicating Khal's every move in their paddock. they sure seemed chilled out. You have brought them along so well; they are international show jumpers, don't ya know :)

Holly I would love to meet you. I love that you are so focused on the welfare of your horses as you compete and it's clear your horses love what they do. Thank you for taking us along on your trip. Tell you dad we love him adding in his emotion and humour into the videos. Thank you. 1. question you stated you were allowed only at certain times to check the boys, do you get to choose what times or is it only specific times that are preset?

Why a wheelbarrow? In every stable are those things. And why to cherbourg, ostend in the coast of belgium is easyer and you waist less time, but i think you went to your friend in france. But from ostend to brussels take only 1 hour. If it's the other side it can take 2 to 2,5 hours. But i don't think because there were in opglabeek only fei juniors and yought. It can be mechelen or wategem or gent, or.... But you waisted much time. Because in ostend sre also plenty of ferrys. At least i think you went in the upper part from belgium, because in the part below brussels there are rarely competitions. In that part people speak french, in the upper part they speak like me, flemish almost like dutch. But now at my 75y i live in the caribean. Did your horses had to stand in that horsebox the whole time on sea? I was in the time also once on that bridge, about 35/40 years ago. And it's true, in france you have to pay much money on roads and bridges. Not like in belgium, at least that i know, because it's already 27 years that i leaved. But if there are conections from ireland to ostend belgium you made a big mistake to go so far away to france. And if not in ostend shurely there are to antwerp, near to mechelen. Or why not a ferry to dover and than from dover to ostend or any port in belgium, zeebrugge, nieuwkerke, knokke.... And on Google you find hotels and restrooms with horses.🥰

Probably depends on where she lives in Ireland as to what Port she has to use. I'm sure she knows what she's doing. She knows her horses as she bred them and she is a Vet as well.
@joannesmartens9442
@joannesmartens9442 2 ай бұрын
@@juliaforsyth8332 i don't think the problem is in ireland, because she has to drive anyway over there, but i don't know where she will go in belgium. That's my birthcountry. But passing belgium to go to cherbourg france id at least one hour more in the North see, and from cherbourg to belgium is a 7 hours drive extra. From the coast of belgium she can drive in one hour to brussels, in the middle of belgium. So, i think that she did the dame road like last year to go to her friend in france, because she don't know how to go over there with a ferry to belgium. It's posible there aren't ferrys from ireland to belgium, but i think there are. But i'm not sure. I was looking to the map and of course the ferry goes under england to cherbourg first, but there are also ferrys (8/day) to belgium, mostly to zeebrugge in belgium, even with containers. And it don't take much time extra. I think she could better stay one hour longer on sea to win much time afterwards, because thr coast from belgium is only 60 km. So once in any port of belgium you can drive in less than 1,5 to 2,5 hours everywhere in belgium, with such a horsebox. Cherbourg is the nearest port to ireland but it's really far away from calais or belgium. I could find even ferrys to the netherlands with a 4 - 6h travel on google.
@HollyLenahanSJ
@HollyLenahanSJ 2 ай бұрын
Hi, the ferry to France first is the only way, I didn’t go that way to visit my friend, I do not personally know the person who owns the yard I stayed at in Cherbourg. Yes there is a ferry from Ireland to zeebrugge but it does not take livestock as it is too long (24hrs). There is another option which is to go to Belgium via the UK. However after brexit, the paperwork is very slow and expensive so it is easier to go via France.
@joannesmartens9442
@joannesmartens9442 2 ай бұрын
@@HollyLenahanSJ ok, i did'nt knew that you can't travel to zeebrugge with a horse, but it's posible because they do mostly container transport. When i went to the caribean my goods, cars, get from there. And of course that brexit is a big problem. But what i don't know is if you can travel without quarentaine, i presume you can because it's europe. But i can see some breedingstables in the netherlands who sold horses to the US and also to canada and they have to stay 2 weeks in quarentaine. I could find diferent ferrys to belgium and the netherlands, but don't know if you can go with a horsebox. To witch competition you went in belgium,witch city? I love to watch fei - longines competitions. Oh, now i could see you went to opglabeek in the east from belgium, near to my birthplace.
