Thank You for the video! I am a med student and I missed my intercalation opportunity and I really want to get into orthopaedics. But I am really scared that I am no longer competitive for getting into ortho without an additional degree. What opportunities are available and is there still any chance of getting into ortho? Also would a degree like Health Economics or Global Health Policy be of any value in this career path? I would really appreciate any advice 🙏🏽

I'm looking forward to becoming an orthopaedic surgeon in the UK. Can you please provide some information on the fast-track (run-through) training programmes for the same?

I’m in my final year of medical school and have always wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon. But I spoke to a psychiatrist earlier this year who said that by going into surgery you are investing in your body, a depreciating asset. Also with the continued lengthening of the training time and the fact that surgery (especially ortho) is a relatively shorter career due it’s physical nature, it’s not worth doing anymore. Do you think this may also be a reason for a drop in surgical applicants?

Most people do it just because they love it especially in places like canada or the UK where you're not compensated as much as your American counterparts

No offense to psychiatrists but they have one of the highest suicide rates out of the medical specialties (I don't want to be a surgeon either) so your mental health is also an asset not just physical health and once you are old as a surgeon you can become a professor, researcher, surgical prosector.
