The world is experiencing a mental health crisis like never before. While that is rightfully scary, it’s important to recognize that many of our daily choices can up-level our brain function and mental health. The inadequacies of current psychiatric disease and care models require urgent attention to address root causes such as nutrition, toxins, and gut health. In this episode of the podcast, I talk to Dr. James Greenblatt, who draws on his four decades of experience in studying functional psychiatry to highlight the importance of a personalized approach to mental health.
In this episode, we specifically focus on:
The pressing need for a new model of mental health care.
How is functional psychiatry different from conventional psychiatry?
Root causes of mental health issues and the importance of addressing nutrient deficiencies, toxins, and gut health.
Success stories using the personalized approach with low-dose lithium, ketogenic diets, and nutraceuticals to treat psychiatric symptoms.
Encouragement for those suffering from mental health disorders to explore Functional Medicine approaches.
Integrating Functional Medicine principles into mainstream psychiatry.
Join us to discover how Functional Medicine can transform mental health care and offer new hope for those struggling with mental health disorders.

@@ethimself5064 I awoke from a coma in September 2005. I could sleep only four hours a night for the first 5 years after that. I still recovered physically and mentally. I also learned that laughter is truly medicine. I laughed at all my health issues which helped me recover without medical aid or prescription drugs. And the years I lacked sleep were also my happiest years.

Thank you so much for this interview. My son has had serious mental health issues since he was quite young. We homeschooled him, but when he was 11-12, things started getting worse and he eventually ended up on many medications and had several hospitalizations over the next 15 years. He's on no medication now, but has severe OCD(touching, tapping, numbers), and is unwilling to take medication. His quality of life is very poor, but he's trying to live independently in his own apartment, with a lot of help. I have no idea how to help him, but this might be a step in the right direction!

Check out Dr Berg. I've heard him cover this as a symptom of a B vitamin(s) deficiency.. I cannot recall which one. I think niacinamide (NAC) or Niacin (Dr Berg's videos will explain the difference) and you need therapeutic doses. Please check his videos about that. Hope it's helpful.

I had a friend who developed Anorexia at 18 due to numerous food allergies and intolerances. She was just too scared to eat anything for fear of it making her sick, and as a result became sick. A nutrition based treatment program would've been the perfect answer for her.

Great informative podcast regarding Mental Health and the nutritional interventions which can be used. I agree if we fix our toxic food system, which would consequently fix most - if not all nutritional deficiencies - everything else would eventually fall into place.

@@williamhoeweler8259i can see how someone would be abused by family but why allow yourself to be abused by so-called friends? Or are you one of those forever victims? Like, Everytime someone disagrees with you, you claim “abuse”? You don’t have a choice as a child but you do as an adult. Don’t put up with people’s crap if they are not nice but also don’t stick around long enough to be abused otherwise….it’s your own adult fault.

Isn’t another consideration the presence of entities. I heard someone speak about how entities, dead people who are not going to the light, hang around and attach themselves to people who are in low vibration…I.e. depressed, schizophrenic etc. Is anyone looking at this? I know big pharma won’t but I tend to believe this is a possibility. It is time we look at the cosmos and what is going on there as well. This lady said we should lovingly but firmly instruct the ‘presence’ to go to the light, there they will find their home. Worth a try. I have done it and it did help me. 🙏🏻

I have been enjoying Dr.Hyman‘s podcast and his approach to functional medicine. However, I really have an issue with how he is lumping ADHD in with all other mental illnesses and that it can be cured or improved with nutrition alone. We have found a significant genetic predisposition to this condition. It does not seem to be a mental illness. In fact, I think many of the ADHD community would take offense to, the comments in this podcast. I certainly did.
