Maximum diameter for pieces depends on the rpm. I've only tried 25mm at this point.
Other parts needed:
-Brushless motor controller
-Brushless motor
-Rails (I used 12mm)
-Bearings for the rails
-Bearing for the motor
-screws nuts and bolts + springs
-Something to attach the project on
