dang. I was railfanning and my tripod fell over after a huge gust of wind. I normally would be holding on to it but i was trying to get a good picture

trying to get a good pic of a train and it blew over just as the head end passes. Battery fell off and video cut off but luckily info saved on SD card

As a drone user I can relate, first time I ever flew mine outside I crashed into a tree, it’s the bane of a drone pilots’ existence

Hey, I’m coming back up to the Twin Cities this weekend to try and catch that warbonnet duo again. Aside from Duluth and that one bridge across that river island, do you know any other good spots along the Hinkley sub I could catch them at?

Unfortunately, those two actually haven't been traversing the Hinckley sub anymore, last I saw them I believe was back in October. They can still be found working on different assignments in the Twin Cities area. I keep hearing them on the Y-NTW3061 which I'm not familiar with but I'll get all the info on that job that I can for you, hopefully you'll see them this time. There's a pretty good chance you will since they really don't go too far out of the metro anymore

Alright I got info in the NTW3061. It's unfortunately mostly a night run between Northtown and UP St. Paul Yard, but since you'll be up on a weekend you might luck out and they could end up on the BNCP, between Northtown and CP Hoffman Yard. I think there's some pretty nice shots between Northtown and there. As far as I know it departs Sunday mornings but I'll try to keep you posted on the location of the bonnets when you're up. I'll keep in touch

Bnsf 1458, do you have any suggestions on drones to buy for railfanning? I want to get a better drone that will fare well in windy conditions and possibly have 4k

Anything DJI will suit your needs. Mini series is perfect if you're on a budget

Damn, I’ve seen worse drone fails. Once, some guys was flying his drone at a park we were at, and was flying it at like, highway speeds. We were bracing for an accident when it happened, he hit a street lamp, shattering the glass and knocking the casing off onto the sidewalk! Luckily no one was hurt, but the casing was severely deformed, and the drone was destroyed. The casing was heavy metal btw.

Nope, after impact there's was a small opening the drone fell into and immediately started hovering in which is pretty fortunate. I was able to carefully back it out and retrieve it
