The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Polish: Grób Nieznanego Żołnierza) is a monument in Warsaw, Poland, dedicated to the unknown soldiers who have given their lives for Poland. It is one of many such national tombs of unknowns that were erected after World War I, and the most important such monument in Poland.[1]
The monument, located at Piłsudski Square, is the only surviving part of the Saxon Palace that occupied the spot until World War II. Since 2 November 1925 the tomb houses the unidentified body of a young soldier who fell during the Defence of Lwów. Since then, earth from numerous battlefields where Polish soldiers have fought has been added to the urns housed in the surviving pillars of the Saxon Palace.
The Tomb is constantly lit by an eternal flame and assisted by a guard post provided by the three companies of the 1st Guards Battalion, Representative Honor Guard Regiment of the Polish Armed Forces. It is there that most official military commemorations take place in Poland and where foreign representatives lay wreaths when visiting Poland.
The changing of the guard takes place on the hour of every hour daily and this happens 365 days a year.

This video is shared with the utmost respect for those that have sacrificed for their countries. This video is spoken in Polish and illustrates a ceremony in Poland. I have not sacrificed anything for my freedom. It was given to me, by those who came before me and sacrificed so much. So now, it is my responsibility to never forget the service and the sacrifices of more than one and a half million Canadian soldiers, sailors, aircrew and merchant seaman. These Canadians are among millions around the world.

The uniforms are not typical of the Representative Honor Guard. These are Podhalanczycy from the southern mountains.

Polish Army (Wojsko Polskie) guard Unknown Soldier Tomb since 1924, excluding years 1939-45 when the country was occupied by Germans and Warsaw razed to the ground. The unknown soldier who lays there had fallen in 1921, in the Polish - Bolshevik war.

It was pretty cool; These apparently are traditional uniforms, not the modern ones. BTW; I have completed my Chernobyl videos; there is about 6 parts going up starting next Friday, one every day or two if your interested in that.

I was just there last month and the Changing Of The Guard was a lot simpler with only 2 relief Guards and their Sgt of the Guard. So I wonder if this particular ceremonial changing has a specific significance, ? or a change from pre-pandemic to post-pandemic

I wonder why the change, this ceremony was really nice to see in person - I wished you could have had a similar experience. Maybe someone local could advise what's happened with the ceremony these days.

@@drone_video9849 The changing of the guard takes place every hour, 24 h. Then 2 soldiers and the shift commander take part in it. Here you see the full ceremony taking place every week on Sunday, each time with a different military formation.

The most ceremonial changing of guards takes place during state ceremonies, on normal days there is a change of two guards, and sometimes a specific unit comes and watches all day long, as you can see in this video. Various services arrive, such as the army and the fire brigade. Prison and customs service

Below the whole soldiers' popular song. The fragment of it is played on the trumpet during this ceremony. At the end, there are words: ŚPIJ KOLEGO W CIEMNYM GROBIE, NIECH SIĘ POLSKA PRZYŚNI TOBIE." Na koniec leci "Warszawianka", a na trąbce żołnierz gra fragment piosenki "Jak to na wojence ładnie" gdzie jest fragment: "ŚPIJ KOLEGO W CIEMNYM GROBIE, NIECH SIĘ POLSKA PRZYŚNI TOBIE." Fragment jakże adekwatny jako że dziesiątki jeśli nie setki tysięcy naszych żołnierzy poległo za Polskę na obczyźnie by móc do wolnej Polski wrócić. Ps. To nie "bębenek" ale werble!

@@jaroslawpeter3586 Thanks for answer the question - War is tragic, I have been to a few places such as Hiroshima and also the Auschwitz concentration camp to name a few, and war is much more horrible than most can imagine. Poland I think was at the center of many unfortunate and disturbing things in the war. I was very happy to have visited, such a great people. BTW I love the perogies, I just went to the local Polish store, they looked a little surprised I wasn't Polish and was looking for them. Google translated version of Jaroslaw Peter response "At the end, "Warszawianka" flies, and on the trumpet a soldier plays a fragment of the song "Jak to na wojence nicnie" with an excerpt: "SLEEP THE MAN IN THE DARK Tomb, LET POLAND SLEEP YOU. " The fragment is so adequate as tens if not hundreds of thousands of our soldiers died for Poland in exile to be able to return to free Poland. Ps. It's not a "drum" but a snare drum!

@@drone_video9849 The soldier plays on the trumpet popular military song "How it's great to be fighting". The title is ironic, the lyrics is funny to lift the soldiers spirit, but there are also words at the end: MY FRIEND SLEEP IN DARK GRAVE, LET POLAND COME TO YOU IN YOUR DREAMS. This fragment is very true about this place, because thousands of Poles died for their occupied country in 19 c. and 20th c. in foreign lands. It is not only 6 years of ww2 but also the partitions period. Whole 19th c. Poland was occupied (for 123 years) by Russia, Prussia and Austria and there were three tragic unsuccessful uprisings. Thank you for making this video. I am from Warsaw but live also in NYC. Whenever I am in Warsaw I visit the Pilsudski Square (and eat pierogi of course;) Best regards!
