I have been told to get one every year. Not getting one this year. I am 60. No cancer for breast in my family. I think it's a money maker for the clinics.

My Doctor told me that he was going to refuse me as a patient last year because I'm refusing the mammogram. I'm so happy I just came across this video, it makes me feel better about my decision, I never went back to that Doctor.

I had a biopsy last month due to micro calcifications on my mammogram. It cost $300 with co pay and I was full of anxiety for 2 months till it was decided I did not have cancer. Now I have 2 metal clips in that breast to mark it was not cancer. At my age, 68, I will not ever have another screening mammogram. If I feel a lump I’ll submit to a diagnostic mammo. My surgeon even said he knew it wasn’t cancer before he did the biopsy but had to do it to prevent lawsuits! Had I been more educated about this I would have said, “lm going to wait and see if I get a lump.” I felt harmed, and scammed.

At 74 I am getting pressure from my nurse practitioner to have a mammogram. Healthy, breast fed my one baby for 7 months, only took birth control pills for 5 years, eat organic foods, exercise, etc. The medical research community does not have much interest in studying histories and life styles of we women who have not had breast cancer. There are so many ways of maintaining health and preventing breast cancer.

7years ago I had a big 50 year old check up, including the very painful mammogram. I have some dense tissue(just like my mom), and was sent on the merry go round of different tests, and surgical consults…yeah, no, never again!!!!

I had only one mammogram in my life. I felt the hard Squeezing can create some Thing. I am more then 70 now, and healthy.😊

Mammograms are awful! They're painful and uncomfortable. IF there was a better way to screen, I would do it hands down! I can't believe that after all of the donations, and time, that NO ONE has come up with a better, less painful way to screen! It's the one medical test I've considered not getting just because of the pain associated with the test. Thank you for your honesty. New Subscriber.

I did a couple mamograms, but never again! Think I had one in my early 40s. I am 57 and never again! I am lucky I have doctors who respect my rights.

It would be very sad if anyone had anything negative to say about this video. It is very informative, filled with resources for the viewer to research and make the decision on their own. I was worried about ultrasound scans when I was pregnant, now Im worried about mammograms. Im saying no to it.

We did not have smart phone, Internet and KZfaq channels decades ago. But my guts told me the mammography, the papsmear and anything involving with X-ray and scanning cause harm more or less to our body. I didn't do any of those procedures the past 20 years from the last time i experienced with bruises that lasted for days. The last papsmear ended with bleeding for many days. I swore never do these again. I even stop the yearly dental xray, unless its necessary in some situations. We already overexposed to all bad things in this environment we live in (traveling on flights, phone, TV and computer radiation, to list a few). There's no reason to add up more unnecessary procedures that for sure are harmful to our body . Granny died at 99 never had a mammo Pap smear never went to the doctor only to give birth to mom & uncle. There you have it.

My GP has been trying to force mammograms on me for years. I keep resisting, and he keeps pushing! Finally, I had enough of him trying to push mammograms and birth control and SSRI on me and reported him to the manager at the doctors office. I told him I was going to report them to the college of physician and arts… She said she was shocked by the things I was saying! Always report your doctors… Report them every time for their indiscretions.

Thanks for sharing this information. We need to be more informed and be allowed to choose how much to participate in screenings (seeking sickness) without being bullied or manipulated into it by physicians.

Thank you for this video. I have been harassed by nearly every MD I have seen. Treated like an idiot by my friends. All because I refuse to have a mammogram. My friend recently had a double mastectomy for stage zero breast cancer, because she didn't want to go through the fear and anxiety of all the follow up mammograms. Honestly, I would have done the same thing. Once you know that information, you can't unknown it. I have been an RN for nearly 30 years which adds to the shaming.

I’m in the U.K., screening starts at 50 here, every 3 years. I had breast cancer detected ages ago 65, 12 mm tumour ER positive, PR negative. I hadn’t felt the lump myself. I was fortunate to only need a lumpectomy and 5 sessions of radiotherapy. I feel if I’d not had the mammogram that I’d have had to have more invasive treatment. It was awful enough having what I had to go through. I’d never know if the cancer could have grown and killed me, or just stayed as it was

I remember my mother having at least 1 mammogram done, they saw something suspicious and wanted to do a biopsy. Results came back negative. And she never went back. I'm 53 and scheduled to have my first one next Monday. I guess the main reason i gave into my PCP persistence to get it is because of my work environment. I work at a shipyard. I'm exposed to all kinds of chemicals, dust particles, fumes, etc. So, i am a little worried that my work environment will make me sick. I'm doing this once. Not coming back multiple images because they might be dense. I remember how much pain she was in after that biopsy and then the results are negative.

I recently had a HERSCAN stage 4 screening. It took them ten days to tell me. I started a new job 14 days ago - found out of tge stage category 4, for days before my job started. Now, I have to get the darn mammo diagnostics this Tuesday. I have zero time off until September. Pray for me please.

A woman in my family almost went for an ultrasound and possible biopsy, 26 years ago. Thankfully she's decided she won't go that route anymore. None of it.

I appreciate this info. My friend died of breast cancer and did the opposite of what they wanted her to do and didn't get chemo or radiation. I now found a painful lump at 33 yrs old and have my mammogram scheduled for tomorrow. I'd rather know than let it be. I still like that u made this video for the specialist and doctors that push too much screenings that may not be necessary.

I had a friend who as a radiologist read mammograms. She was constantly on report because she took too much time to deterimine whether the patient required a biopsy or was to be given the all clear of breast cancer. She said that there were about 40% of mammograms that required 30 or more minutes to made a determination. The other 60% were either clear cut determinations, i.e. needs biopsy or no cancer. My friend was the only radiologist who did not read four mammograms an hour. If other mammogram factories operate on the same principle, it is no wonder that some women die of cancer after receiving a false negative and many women are given false positives,

I once was called back for a 2nd mammogram for a "closer look". This one not only squeezed my breast but flattened it like a pancake, no lie. I had never seen my breast like that. This was 20 years ago so perhaps the equipment has changed.

What about those who have had the lumpectomy from DCIS and told to get mammograms every 6 months of the breast that had DCIS. Just wanted to put it out there.

I was told to start at 40. As far as I know I'm not at greater risk. I guess they lowered the age since this video.

What about breast biopsies that come next? Very invasive.

I have a high risk of breast cancer due to my mother having a stage 2 breast cancer. I had a mammogram at age 40 it was negative and recently just had a 3D at age 46 I read the result for follow up testing ultrasound due to false positive result on the right. My coworker who's also a Nurse that just had lumpectomy keep insisting to do a mammogram which I dont really wanna do due to radiation risk. BTW technician ask me prior to doing the mammo if I had any ultrasound I said no so I'm now in a loop of additional testing. I dont mind but I will not do the yearly breast cancer screening I will insist on just doing an ultrasound that I will request from my primary care.

Chemo and radiation can still kill some patients especially those over diagnosed and can cause some cancers i wished doctors can come to agreement whats really truthful therefore it only leaves you confused some are being over treated by having a mammogram and alot of doctors seem to be agreeing with this.

Great video and exactly what I was looking for today! I am due for my 'annual' mammogram and was asking about this yesterday while talking with your office about membership. I have dense tissue in my left breast it's been suggested by my PCP that I do a digital mammogram for that reason instead which my insurance doesn't cover. I am in agreement with you on the figures. I'm an ex oncology RN and I did find that most of my breast cancer patients did not detect their cancer with a mammogram. My question is - is a DIGITAL mammogram any better or worth doing over a standard mammogram? I am 61, no family or personal history, or current issues and have gotten a mammogram almost every year for the last 10-15 years and I do worry about cumulative radiation. Trying to decide before year end. Thank you

I’m 49. I’ve had 5 mammos, at least 3 were 3D, and 4 call backs for more pictures. I’m going for my 4th call back appt for more pics and an ultra sound tomorrow. They say I have dense breast. Dense breast or not, why am I still going back for more pics and ultra sounds with 3D Mammos? I’m suspicious.

Gosh... I'm here listening to this data and wondering what these numbers may be like here in Brazil...😢... There are a few corageous Brazilian doctors who talk about this here too, Lair Ribeiro being the most well known of them. And it's pretty impressive how the media here does everything they can to ruin their reputation.

I always went for a mammogram every two years since the age of 50. My results were always normal until recently l got a call back to get an ultrasound on my right breast at 59. So l went and got my results right away apparently l have a small cyst but no cancer. I must admit it was stressful and l cried in silence praying to our Lord Jesus Christ to be by my side. Extremely happy with the results but if l would of not gone l would of not known. Love yourself before anyone or anything else.😊

They have had me take these since I was 29, my Mom never had cancer never had a Mammogram, I'm now 59 last time it was SO PAINFUL I felt like I was in a car accident was in pain for 2 weeks. My Gyn retired so I asked my new GYN if I could just get an Ultra Sound she said no and now she wants me to take both. Where(how) do I find a GYN who won't push Mammograms? My Dad's sister's had breast cancer, my Dad use to tell me he thought it was from his sisters always banging there Breast on something (not sure) at the bottom oaf the steps he said they would be in a lot of pain.

These days 3D mammograms ( after a 2D mammogram) have become widespread because most women have dense breasts. So that makes it double the number of mammograms. Recently got a diagnosis of "2mm area of scarring distortion" in one breast on 3D that was negative on Ultrasound . Doctor, does it require biopsy? As you rightly said overdiagosis and then over treatment are the potential risks of sophisticated mammograms (3D) that picks up all sorts of stuff in a dense fibrocystic breast. Maybe it’s because the US health insurance system is so different but there’s no pressure to have mammograms till 50 when you are then invited to a free mammogram screening as a government service. Of course if you have a family history, you would be urged to go earlier than that. I didn’t have a family history but I became patient zero in mine. Only confirmed because of a mammogram, ultrasound and MRI. you will put up with a lot - squashed breasts, biopsies and the scanxiety - if you have to. If you’ve avoided it all and been healthy, good for you, but fear of the discomforts isn’t a good enough reason imho. Fear of ongoing radiation maybe. And by all means eat and live healthy. Great advice for reducing recurrence too.

how do they check flat chested women? No answer! Yet if you have big breasts they put them in the machine and squeeze & flatten them. This is not possible with small or flat chests so do they just get a free pass?

Vitamin D has been shown to reduce your risk. Per the national institute of health my risk is 1.6% for the next 5 years. I will risk it. My mom never had a mammogram until she was 70 and they immediately found something but it was so silly it only needed surgery.

This is from six years ago. Since the advent of 3-D mammography, this has changed completely. On top of that, he is confused. Women who are alarmed about getting mammograms because of this presentation need to look at other more recent information!

50% chance that it will be a false positive? That makes no sense. That would mean pretty much every woman would be told there's a potential problem EVERY OTHER mammogram. I have had one call back in 20+ mammograms. I don't know anyone who has had that kind of call back statistic. Women will be running off to spend their money on expensive vacations? They are going to have the time to do that between the call back and the second test? Ummmm, if they think you might have a problem, they will get you in within 24 hours. He keeps talking about deaths per thousands. But it's getting treated earlier so that you don't have to have such intensive treatment. It's not just about not dying, it's about what you have to go through and how that affects your life. They don't do double mastectomies on small cases of breast cancer where the woman would have never known and died from something else. Thermograms are not at all a good way to detect breast cancer, as are ultra sounds also not good as a first step tool, they don't see deeply enough, and they miss the lymph nodes. He brushes over the family issue. If you have a genetic predisposition, that just tells you that you have a genetic predisposition, nothing else. If your, as he says, mother and sister have had breast cancer, then you have a genetic disposition for breast cancer. No, no necessarily. My mother had an aggressive breast cancer at 65, my sister a non-aggressive at 49. My mother's side of the family is Ashkenazic Jewish. This is the typical picture of a family with the BRCA mutations. But nope, none of those 3, and not one of the hundreds of smaller mutations that can influence it. There is no apparent reason for it. And here's the other question-- I am 65, and touch wood, have never had breast cancer so far. Even if I were diagnosed with it tomorrow, what protected me for an addition 16 years, that didn't with my sister? The point is, if you have a family history, that can tell you everything and nothing, don't assume anything. A big problem with this video, is that he says "doctors are not having these conversations with their patients", implying that he's different, he does. Anyone a doctor goes on KZfaq and indicates that they are different, they are special, it's all about their ego, and suggests that you shouldn't trust your own doctor. He's right, that the numbers make it appear that the benefit of mammograms looks iffy. But if you look at the overall picture, for God's sake, get mammograms. Doctors get frustrated with patients who won't get mammograms for 2 reasons: the first is that they are so useful in finding breast cancer. 1 in 8 women get breast cancer over their lifetimes. Mammograms find a tremendous amount of those. The second reason-- it's why and how patients who won't get them present themselves-- as those who have watched KZfaq videos and now know more than their own doctor. I knew someone in high school who told her doctor that he didn't know squat about nutrition and came armed with crap she'd printed off from the Internet. And then seemed baffled that he wasn't impressed with her "knowledge" and mocked her. He shouldn't have mocked her, but ya know, she kinda had it coming.
