DRS Class 68 Diesel 68001 "Evolution" Hauling The Mossend To Inverness Freight Near Pitlochry

I spent a week from 10th-17th July staying in the lovely town of Pitlochry. The accommodation had two viewing platforms which gave terrific views of the line to Inverness just south of Pitlochry railway station. Most traffic comprised of 158/170 DMU's from Edinburgh and Glasgow to Inverness. In between these were the Caledonian Sleeper and the Virgin HST from Kings Cross to Inverness. There were also a some freight diagrams the 05:05/05:08 Mossend Up Yard to Inverness, usually hauled by 68001 returning from inverness at 13:19 being one of them.

having seen this train go by my window for the last two years, all I can say is they 68s make a hell of a lot more noise then the normal 66s

+theghostontheline I don't know how many times I've watched this clip now but I watch it nearly everyday & by far it is my favourite clip of the class 68! Just love the sound at the beginning on my 5.1 home cinema. The vibrations from that beautiful deep rumbling engine just drive me mad, followed by the other sounds she makes which I can't explain but like as well. Seriously I think you've captured the best sound & video quality of all the clips I have seen so far. Bravo

That engine sounds brilliant. Such a deep rumble, reminds me of an old American V8. It's high on my list of best sounding trains. I haven't seen one in person yet, but I hope I do some day.
