Ah, I'm so looking forward to developing the skills to play more musically like this. Your vid highlights the kinds of things I need to work on. This video would’ve helped me tremendously 5-7 years ago when I started. I didn’t practice my dynamics around the drums and everything was so messy, mainly because playing “fast and hard” means good drumming. Jazz really helped me because everything is so quiet and deliberate and also tests your dynamics with each hit and helped my limb independence so i’m thankful for that.

great video! I just love how he teaches us many things. I have a problem by the way. I have been drumming for like 5 days with single pedal. I think I forced my right ankle too much because right now it hurts when I walk and when I ty to move my foot in circles it just hurts a lot. What can I do about it ? I play heel down and I probably use the wrong muscle group. How do I fix the pain and what is the right technique?

Huge fan of your channel gabe! I love the quality production of these videos, they're definetly way above average but I have one minor suggestion to improve your videos a little bit more. I think that this "99%..." Thing sounds a bit amateurish and clickbaity and let's be honest, you don't know if it's actually 99% who play this beat wrong hahaha so I would leave that out But hey it's completely up to you and I also don't think it's a huge deal but I think most people would agree with me that these kinds of video titles usually don't seem professional when you only read the title. But keep up the great content :)

I have a question… My teacher taught me to use the ride cymbal rather than the high hat for the eighth notes… Any reasoning behind that?

The ride gives the groove a much more open feel, which is good for choruses. There’s nothing really wrong with playing on the hihat, it just feels different.

I like to play this beat on the ride instead of the hi hats and instead of ghost notes on the snare I play those notes on the toms, or play it on the floor tom instead of the hats/ride.

@@butterflylady8875 when I teach my students how to play a beat I always have them start on the hats because they are easier to hear than the ride, especially on a beat like the one in the video where I want to make sure they are playing it correctly.
