I saw Chad in clinic around 86 with Drum World in SF. He was so tasty and inspiring. Really nice, too. He told a Zappa story and I asked, "well how do you play a 5 over 3?" He totally broke it down. AAA class dude.

One of the pleasures of my life meeting Chad when he played with 'Banned from Utopia' in a cold night in Derby. Such a gentle human being. 'The Man from Utopia' and 'Does Humour Belong in Music' changed my life! Wish i could afford to re subscribe to drum channel 🥺

I remember almost stalking Chad at the 930 club when he played with Jimmy Paul and Allan. He was so patient with all us devotees..he and I talked about Tony Williams for a half hour out loud in the basement of 930 while everyone else just sat around and soaked up his knowledge….great person to me and everyone else there.

And Jimmy was also so gracious..Allan was not around before the show..he and Paul weren’t there

So I finish my audition with master Holdsworth at Charvel and guess who walks in? Yep.. and the next time it happened it was a guy named Vinnie.. both times I flew from the east coast and flew home with a tear and a smile.. Chad was perfect for the music and the concepts.. and for the love of God I got to play with an avatar.. twice.. Great interview!

Chad has always been in my top 10 Inspirational Drummers to Watch, Listen & Learn from. Really love the Zappa song where Chad plays from the snare downwards to the lowest tom then back up again mostly 2 with the hands then 2 with the feet, there are some 3's in places with the hands and also the feet, the fill is spread over 2 bars in half time or 4 bars in double time, such a beautiful tribal fill. Another Zappa/Chad tune is called "Sinister Footware" Chad's approach to it is out of this world, amazing production on this album called "Them Or Us". Then there was Holdsworth, Chad was right at home with Allan. Chad also got to relax a little when recommended for the legendary James Taylor Gig. I am blessed to appreciate all the fine music I cherish so much, the icing on the cake is that every tune, every song I have (There are almost 40,000 maybe more) has the worlds greatest musicians performing on them. I learn a lot from every single one of them. Great Interview Lombardi, Thank You Chad.

Excellent interview, Thank you!..I've been a fan of Chad's drumming w Zappa since I was 13 in the mid 80's when I heard him,Chad was playing many different intricate styles yet making it look so effortless,,Amazing skills..always great to see and hear you!!
