• Deuce - Kiss | The Mid...
Today on the channel, we are checking out KISS as they perform their song "Deuce" on The Midnight Special! This was the third song we've analyzed from their Midnight Special performance and they were all amazing! This tune had so many syncopated parts and Peter Criss' drum parts were excellent! I love going down this KISS rabbit hole and cannot wait to explore more from them! Hope you enjoy! #reaction #kiss #kissarmy #70srock #genesimmons #classicrock #acefrehley #petercriss #paulstanley #musicreactions

It would be tough to name a more underrated drummer than Peter Criss. Like the others in KISS, his musicianship was dismissed because of the theatrics, but he had some serious chops in the early days. His roots were in jazz and r&b, and he even studied briefly under Gene Krupa. Listen to KISS Alive to hear more of him from that era, at his -- and their -- peak.

Always more KISS reactions, please, ‘cause I love it loud. You got nothin’ to lose. Don’t make us wait 100,000 years. The fans really lick it up. KISS is larger than life even if their critics claim they hit rock bottom. Doesn’t shock me. KISS never had great expectations for critics, anyway. Do you know what you dig up when you hit rock bottom? A black diamond. So more KISS reactions, please, and shout it out loud!

The fingerprints of Bill Aucoin, Neil Bogart and espicially Sean Delaney on the KISS presentation can not de dismissed. Delaney's choreography and little tricks such as Paul "fluffing" his hair with his hand (after seeing Paul scratch his head), amazing. KISS fans get it. Non KISS fans do not. Simple as that. We watch because we get it. And now you do also. Congrats bro and LISTEN TO DAD!! Haha. Many thanks for this.

Kiss compositions are better than 90% of the stuff out there today. That's for sure. Not every musician makes it big obviously, and not every musician that does well is actually that talented. Kiss found a niche' and ran with it. Hard rocking, shocking appearance and fun stage show. Adrenaline filled, testosterone inspired Rock. This early Kiss got me through my teen years in the 1970's. Here's a shocker... back in those days girls listened to Kiss too. Ah...good times.

Amazing stuff! Also, the 1984/85 Mtv concert for the Animalize tour is fantastic! Eric Carr is just a beast that entire show. It was also Bruce Kulicks first show as an official member of the band! He and Eric really brought a lot to the band.

At this point they were on the cusp of fading or blowing up. They were going for broke. Great reactions! Also, you said it, “hours of practice”. That’s how they locked it in. In time they would blow up and then alcohol and drugs became a problem, Peter and Ace got lazy (as essential as they are to the band, and they are my favorites, but it is what it is) and they slipped into the 80’s a little less “hungry” and a lot more distracted.

This was a focused band unleashed. Potent years 1973-1977. Long before they became sloppy KISSes. Give the video for Hard Luck Woman a watch. You’re gonna like Peter’s voice. Totally agree but they are underrated as musicians. Gene is actually a great bass player…very melodic and sometimes even busy…and while singing. He’s no Geddy but he’s an excellent player. So are Ace and Peter. Paul makes up for his playing skills as a songwriter. They WERE pretty great. But the people who dislike them tend to hate them. I get why but I don’t share that opinion. I dig vintage Kiss big time!!

Bill Aucoin was KISS' first manager. Bill began taping rehearsals, and his partner, Sean Delaney began to notice short moments where two guys would be in sync. Sean began to choreograph these moments with the band as they rehearsed. Sean would play back rehearsal tapes and perform the moves he wanted the band to do either in-sync or individually to correspond to their characters. The back and forth synchronized rocking, Gene's slow arm movements with a crooked hand to look demonic, Paul putting his guitar between his legs as an innuendo, Ace pointing to his guitar neck as he does pull-offs so they look ethereal and almost telekinetic are all the brain children of Sean Delaney.

Deuce and Black Diamond were off their first album, Kiss (1974) , and She was off their third album, Dressed to Kill (1975). Their appearance on The Midnight Special was in late November 1975, shortly after the release of their live double album, Alive! (Sept 1975). This album really kickstarted their rise to stardom, it peaked at #9 on the Billboard hot 200 and charted for 110 weeks.

That synchronized stage move developed by their 1st band manager's partner. KISS did it every time when they performed Deuce in their shows."Firehouse" another song, at the end they have sirens going off. Finally Gene holds Kerosene in his mouth & spits fire. Another staple of their shows.A magician taught him that in the early days.Gene's hair caught on fire the 1st time he did it & a few times after.Accidently swallowed kerosene too went to the hospital

1983, I am an MP in the Army stationed in Nuremberg Germany. I was assigned to work the Kiss concert. My smokin hot German girlfriend was a Kiss freak. I was able to get her into the concert and also backstage. It was dead. No makeup and hardly anybody there. It looked to me like a dying band. Fast forward 20 years and i am back home in Orange County Ca. Around 2000 I was recently widowed and a friend showed up with Kiss tickets. They were on fire. Sold out the Honda Center in Anaheim Ca. I was blown away. Fire, explosions, just a spectacle. I could not believe it was the same band. I think Ted Nugent played as well, but all I remember was Kiss

Just wasn’t the same to me. In 1996 they went back to their roots, and I saw their concert in Indianapolis. Finally, I went to their Indianapolis performance in 2019, on “supposedly” last tour. Every night was sold out and had an attendance of 12.000 people. KISS played the songs even a bit faster than in the MIdnight Special. When they did this TV show they weren't doing well at all. Their records weren't selling. They were an opening act, and they'd get thrown off tours because most bands didn't want to follow them. And you mentioned Gene Simmons jumping up and down, well he can't do that anymore. Since Kiss has stopped touring he's been doing shows on his own. No makeup, no jumping around, he's just standing there. But him just standing there isn't a problem. He's got these good songs, he's got a tight band with him. He knows who he is and that's all he needs.

I really appreciate you saying the nice things about Peter Criss because he never got the credit he deserved. Not saying he was the greatest of all time but he's far better than a lot of people say. I meant to say in my comment on your show featuring Black Diamond that Peter was a heck of singer too and it's a shame they didn't let him sing more. Check him out singing Nothin' to Lose sometime. Sean Delaney contributed a lot to kiss at the beginning. He wrote songs with them, managed them, and taped their rehearsals that they would go back over to improve. A lot, if not all their choreography came from this method.

Hey again...Watchin' You is a good one Live. I suggest trying the KISS Alive recording or maybe the Live - 1997 Reunion Tour video.

KISS were a real blunt instrument back then, bludgeoning audiences. No social media for over exposure like today. "They" say they were poor musicians but where are all the bum notes? Thanks for appreciating Peter Criss's drum patterns as well, he is so under-rated

If you watch all three of these videos, deuce black diamond, and she never stuck his tongue out the midnight special to him not to do that being on TV back then so that’s the reason why he didn’t do it

This is a point where they played anywhere and everywhere. At one point they did 305 shows in a little over 2 years, part of that out of a station wagon and pull behind trailer! They practiced at every opportunity and said they wore the platform boots as much as they could, to make it 2nd nature. Paul collapsed on stage (in Atlanta?) from exhaustion! Some places they said they played two shows a day. They even played in Alaska, one of the only groups to go there back then! They wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to see them! I saw them in '77 after they'd already gotten big! Seen them 8 times total with all but the St.John era!

They were on that grind! All that hard work definitely paid off for them! Thanks for sharing!
