John was a creative juggernaut that just felt so deeply, yet didn't show it on the outside much. Here, you can see the happiness and love shine through him and its a beautiful thing. Thank you scott.

I was 16 and a Beatlemaniac from birth according to my folks (1964) in Berkeley, California; a vert fun, colorful place back then. My girlfriend called hysterical with the news and we spent the rest of the day and late into the night simply hugging each other and crying our eyes out. I remember it like it was yesterday and it kills me.

When John first moved to New York in 1971, he lived on Bank Street in the village and later moved to the Dakota, which is directly across the street from Central Park. I grew up in the same neighborhood just two blocks from where he lived so I used to see him walking in the neighborhood all the time and actually met him twice. I never asked him for an autograph, which, as you can see, he would’ve gladly signed. I don’t know why but for some reason, I felt it was inappropriate . As you can see from the video, he carried himself with humor and grace.

That's the best combo a person could have. Funny and gracious. There isn't many of them out there! John was a real person who happened to become one of the biggest artists of all time. He was still a man at heart though. A lot of modern celebrities are just walking, talking corporate ideology billboards. Who are so out of touch with reality they don't see the walls coming down around them. They hate the thing that gave them the ability to be stars in the first place. I'm all for change and things being better for everyone but not this cyber corporate dystopia where "everyone is equal" and "I'm doing my part!" 🤣 here's your ribbon. Sorry that got off topic. That's amazing you saw him. I would have asked. I'm not gonna lie lol

His journey was so authentic,we didn’t expect perfection from our artists. We wanted honestly, pain,anger, confusion,sillyness ,emotional growth ,and Music Music Music. he gave us all he wanted- we wanted more but it was his life experience. I wanted him to tell me what to expect. The night he was murdered I was destroyed, I walked out of a club in shock went home and fell into sobbing mourning with my roommates. I knew the 80s was doomed. If you want to hear a beautiful honest song that was the first time I heard a vulnerable man in Rock. ❤️JEALOUS GUY❤️ He loved NY ! He & Yoko found a home . The songs he wrote for her Beautiful!

I just found him and lost him at the same time. I don't know how to feel. But there is a sort of emptiness when I do try and feel it. I wasn't there, so the impact is somewhat lessened, but the sting is still there. 😪

Putting his politics aside Lennon was & still is a musical genius. His early stuff with the Beatles was teenage angst & love sick pop but he later broke out with songs like this. Lyrically deep, some Harrison tunes are the same way. Two great talents lost. RIP John & George.

Most of this shot in NYC 🗽my hometown and in Central Park as well. Amazing how it seems John was able to walk freely back then with no bodyguards or entourage as the New Yorkers were generally respectful and gave him his space back in the day❤

You are right, guy. He was more than a star or celebrity, he was truly loved by many millions. I will never forget how we heard Howard Cosell announce his death during a Monday night football game. Which is why the song, Starting Over, climbing the charts after his hiatus, always breaks me up. So excited that he was back! And then he was taken away.

Yoko introduced him to New York and he loved it. He said it reminded him of Liverpool. He did a fund raiser for John Sinclair, a New Yorker who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for marijuana possession. He was released the day after the concert. As a result, the Nixon administration considered John Lennon a threat and repeatedly tried to get him deported. He successfully fought it and stayed there, with the exception of his "lost weekend" in LA which lasted a year and a half or so, until the day he died. God, I miss that man. We can only imagine the wonderful music and art the world has lost.

John was living like any other New Yorker when I was a little kid. He loved being accessible and unfortunately died because he wanted to feel connected. I was on a class trip to the planetarium right by his place the day he was killed. It's freaky thinking that guy was standing there, waiting for him all day

To some of us oldies who were ‘there’ with The Beatles all along this is very emotional. He and the other Beatles were beyond superstar at that time, they became Icons. John reached new heights with his anti war and living in New York, so revered!

My sister lived on the same street as The Dakota and once was walking down the street and looked up to see John and Yoko approaching on the sidewalk, both smiling and saying excuse us as they passed her by. We saw the Beatles as kids and the Beatles were everything to us.

Love #9 Dream! Two other huge favorites for me because they just seemed so early to hint at punk and later alt-rock stuff, but, I Found Out, and, Well Well Well. Damn it's just so stripped down and intense. But I love the luxuriousness of #9 Dream!

Hey Lee! Nice reaction my friend. John loved NYC. He spoke once in an Andy Peables interview taken only a day before his assassination of how NY was 24\7 and had his kind of energy. Ironically he also spoke of how safe he felt there. He said he felt comfortable going to restaurants there without being bugged. He said mostly the people will just wave and give smiles of recognition. What a dark night that was. I still miss him

John was a NYer after the Beatles. He was so loved & approachable, but sadly that was his downfall. He never turned down a request for an autograph, esp kids. The video was filmed in Central Park, his apt was on W 72nd St & Strawberry Fields is in the park right across from The Dakota. He loved NY & we loved him. Still do.

'I knew he was in the know..' that's what I thought when I heard this song, "Instant Karma" and "Imagine". I never realised how spiritual John and George was until I heard their songs and watched interviews they gave about spirituality. They "Really" understood the meaning of life and what we are, which is, pure love, peace and joy. I would not be surprised if the Beatles were put here to spread "peace and love" in order to advance our consciousness. Great reaction Lee!

Lee, Every Year on John Lennon s Birthday October 9th a group of musicians fans gather at Strawberry Fields Imagine Mosaic and play guitar, bass & drums. They play Beatles and John Lennon songs all day. I came upon this one year while walking through Central Park in NYC. I got to join in along with many people. What a special experience I'll never forget. ☮️

That is called " The Bandshell" . Directly behind it is the "Rumsey Play Field" , the location of the "Summer Stage" It was my "Home" Monday thru Wednesday in the Summer during the 90's, where I was Head Carpenter for New York Grand Opera I definitely had the nicest "Yard" in NYC every Summer! I miss it alor!

So cool that you reacted to the music video instead of just the song . The song is awesome, a true classic, but the video adds so much more context. I posted the following comment to the official music video a few years ago on December 8, 2020. I figure I'd copy it here to give you an idea of how the world felt when we realized John was gone. Here it is: I remember watching Monday Night Football 40 years ago today, December 8, 1980. The Miami Dolphins vs The New England Patriots. I remember rooting for one team, although I cant remember which, because it had some sort of potential playoff implications for my Buffalo Bills. Towards the end of the regulation game, a scroll came across the bottom of the screen saying a former Beatle had been shot in NYC. It didn't say who, or what kind of physical condition they were in. Immediately, I thought of Paul McCartney. Paul had been busted for Marijuana possession in Japan earlier that year, and although improbable, the only thing I could think of was maybe some kind of drug deal gone bad. I remember hoping he'd be okay. Then, a short while later, Howard Cosell interrupted the game and said it was John Lennon, that he had been shot in the back, that he was rushed to the hospital, and that he was pronounced dead on arrival. I remember standing up from my chair in disbelief. All of a sudden, this game that meant so much to me only moments earlier meant absolutely nothing. The impact of knowing the Beatles would never, ever reunite was overwhelming. And that a man of peace was so brutally gunned down for no apparent reason was really unbearable at the time. My heart goes out to his family on this sad anniversary. Rest in Peace John Lennon. Peace

73 was good year for post-Beatles: - John's Mind Games - Ringo's self-titled album (a.k.a. Ringo 73) -George's Living in the Material World -Paul McCartney and Wings' Red Rose Speedway and THE GIANT Band on the Run NOTE: Spinozza quoted in this video worked with McCartney on RAM and Ringo on Ringo the 4th, there's other story of him about Beatles-related but it's embarrassing search and 'think for yourself'... John & Yoko lived in the famous Dakota Buildin' across from Central Park. It also played a major role in the film Rosemary's Baby. Iffin' you haven't seen this movie I can't recommend it enough. A true classic!

I once stayed for a while in a place about two blocks from the Dakota. Spent a lot of time in Central Park and I even ran into Yoko a couple times at that little memorial park that she did. Hey man, I have followed your channel for a while, and something just clicked just now. If you haven't done his hit Cold Turkey yet, you absolutely absolutely absolutely have to. I can tell that you like him, but given your past experience, which probably wasn't exactly like his, I'm not saying that, but given your past experience, I am positive your respect for him will shoot through the roof. It's a great song on top of it, really cutting edge for the time and raw. And so compelling. Btw, you are one of the few reactors I watch where when they point to where a link is supposed to be on the screen, it's actually there, lol.

Funny story about David Spinozza.....when he was hired to work on the Mind Games LP, he had learned that Lennon was unaware that he had previously worked with McCartney and was concerned that he might be dismissed if lennon found out due to the sour relationship he had at the time with McCartney. It so happens that when Lennon did find out, he simply commented, "Well, Paul knows how to pick good people." Having recorded with Ringo years later, Spinozza is one of a few select muscians who has played for three of the four Beatles. Jim Keltner holds the same distinction as well, although he has not yet played with McCartney.

Check out the story of when Paul went to John’s apartment when Lorne Michaels’ offered the Beatles live on the show a lowly sum if they came on the show. Paul went to the apartment while the show was in progress so they could have gotten in a taxi and crashed the show. But John did not want to do it. What a moment in time. I wish John acted more in character and spontaneously did it.

Great song! 1973's music is burned into my mind. That year at age 12 I had the trauma of being locked up in an asylum. The music I heard on the air was a window to a better world I knew was out there and that I would live in someday... Well, here I am today, an old musician in Tucson.

The Mind Games album is set to be released in a remixed 6 disc, 2 Blu-ray, book, box set, Ultimate Collection release in July. The 2-disc version should be pretty good too.

John said, that he was comfortable in NYC, as it was similar to Liverpool, a City with River, on the ocean, with shipping -and a hard yet fun life. (I have been to Liverpool twice; various sites visited -I know NYC less, yet have visited) When John and Yoko were out and around NYC, he wasn't chased like in 1964 with Beatlemania. Fans would encounter -greetings, chats, some just "How's it going"....the shock of his murder, premeditated, and the killer getting Lennon's autograph earlier that evening,....I was 11 years when John Lennon was murdered, and a Beatles fan since only 1978. The "Mind Games" album is getting a proper remaster, option of media in July -the search for the Grail.

What unfortunately led to his death was his access to fans. He would literally just go shopping and walk through the parks in New York. Go grab a cup of coffee, etc. People would just run into him all the time. He didn't isolate himself. It was a different time. Sadly, this same openness allowed his killer to get too close.

First guy in New York to wheel his baby carriage through Central Park. I have missed him for almost 24 years (he was taken 4 days after my birthday).

I agree with you about this video. Just John fooling around and with no alterations to the studio track. The video is very fun but also unavoidably deep, sad, and reflective given that you can't change his tragic fate only a few years later. He lived in New York City with Yoko and Sean, at the Dakota building. He was also murdered there in 1980 by a sub-human nothing who even had the balls to have gotten John's autograph on the Double Fantasy album earlier in the day.....I so glad that Yoko is still alive to keep this monster behind bars....

AAaahhh L33 - Your favourite Beatle.... and what a brilliant track. And yes, he moved to New York about a year after they broke up... And he didn't want to come back to the UK becuase the FBI and Nixon wanted to recind his green card... And he realised that once out of the States they wpuld have tried to keep him out because of his political activity in the early park of his stay in NY. Keep on Rocking young sir...
