Thank you to our new patron Miss Blondie for this ROCKIN pick... so much damn energy from that man. He's like the British Stevie Ray Vaughan and the backing band is like Double Trouble almost in a way. I felt like I did some stuff I used to do back in the day after listening to this lol

Actually, Rory spent much of his career looking to see what sounds he could pull out of his guitar with just his hands and was known for not using too many gadgets. And he was an extremely good acoustic player as well. He also played mandolin, sax and harmonica. Lots of folks suggested some of his rock performances, but I'm going to suggest a couple of blusier pieces-"Calling Card" performed 1977 at the Hammersmith Odeon and "I Wonder Who" Belfast 1984. Some fabulous acoustic work can be seen on "Rag Mama Rag" 1976 Rockpalast, " Out on the Western Plain" Cork Opera House 1987. And let's not forget "Going to my Hometown" Rockpalast 1979 on mandolin. Rory is a deep rabbit hole and I hope you jump in!

Rory Gallagher! If you go down this rabbit hole, you'll never get out! Saw him live back in 1984. It's the greatest...and LOUDEST concert I ever attended. My no. 1 guitarist of all time. Some more suggestions: "Shadow play" from Lorient 1994 - He was a dying man at the time, but still went God mode on the solo. An emotionally charged version. "Do you read me" from Rock goes to college 1979 Tattoo'd lady" - either from Offenburg 1982 or Rockpalast 1977 - two totally different versions, both equally incredible! "Moonchild" from the album Stage struck. Best version there is! "Just a little bit" from Roslyn New york 1974 - what a jam!!

That Strat is very likely the first one to have been imported to Ireland. Another musician had bought it and played it for a time but it wasn't the color (red) he had ordered so he sold it back to the store he bought it from. Then Rory bought it and played it until his sweat burned the paint off and warped it.

Lee man so glad you did Rory he is a total legend here in Ireland, and is revered by all famous axemen. What you see with Rory is what you got, no flashy effects and crazy pedal boards, just a beaten up Strat and that was it. He has some some great songs, Moonchild, Shadow Play, Bullfrog Blues, Walk on Hot Coals, Tattooed Lady etc. Saw him live many times both in Ireland and the UK. He was much better to see in the smaller venues. It's hard to believe he is nearly 30 years gone, and was taken way too soon. Brian May of Queen recently contributed to a great documentary about him. Even though Prog and Genesis and Floyd were my fav bands, just loved Rory along with Phil Lynott true Irish music heroes. You gotta do more Rory.

Rory never did drugs, it's said not much alcohol. He had a fear of flying...totally humble, sweet and loving human being. . Totally calm opposite energy off stage. They gave him meds for the flying thing and it ate his liver. Died from staff inf after transplant in 1995. His band and family always came first.. Check out his bio. Yes, he does softer ballads. He has an incredible bio...was never rich, got ripped off from managers.. worked to get $$ back for band members. Thanks, Lee, 💕 This didn't highlight his band devotion...usually concerts feature solos from each. Thanks Blondie

Check out the band "Taste". Taste are an Irish blues rock band formed in Cork in 1966. They were founded by songwriter and guitarist Rory Gallagher who left the band in 1970. In April 1969, Taste released the first of their two studio albums, the self-titled Taste, with On the Boards following in early 1970, the latter showing the band's jazz influences with Gallagher playing saxophone on two tracks. History Taste (originally "The Taste") were formed in Cork, Ireland, in August 1966 as a trio consisting of Rory Gallagher on guitars and vocals, Eric Kitteringham on bass, and Norman Damery on drums.[2] In their early years Taste toured in Hamburg and Ireland before becoming regulars at Maritime Hotel, an R&B club in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in the summer of 1967.[3]

👍 (50 year anniversary last year) Time keeps on ticking... Going through a box of old ticket stubs not long ago. I was blessed. My first rock concert: May 19, 1973 (lol yeah, I'm old, but still above the dirt...) East Tennessee State University Rory Gallagher ZZ Top $4 It was about two months before Tres Hombres came out. (Dusty Hill's 24th birthday, I came to find out on his passing) It was Festival Seating and I managed to get about 15 feet from mic center. Rory Gallagher was pure fire right out of the gate, and his band was phenomenal. (particularly Lou Martin on his electric piano) Rory was amazing to see play and I think that he had as much fun as anyone. Then, Billy Gibbons and the boys came out. Back when they were the most badass blues rock band that ever was. Straw hats, jeans, no beards (but Frank. lol), and BG in a white tshirt w/ pack of Marlboros rolled up in the sleeve(lol). Needless to say, Rory and Billy made a big impression on a 16 yr old. Blues rock, slide guitar nut ever since. RIP Rory, Rod, Lou, & Dusty. Thank You! Keep Rockin' Billy, Frank, & Gerry Openers...
