The Chain Chomps have been referred to "adorable Chain Chompikins" early on in Super Mario Odyssey. I thought that was interesting as I never thought of them as cute until then.

I wonder if there are regular creatures called Chomps, which are wild undomesticated chain chomps, but have no chain because the chain was added by bowser. They are animals, but robotic clones of them are made in factories.

Chain chomps also appeared in Super Mario RPG. In that game, they appear in Booster's Tower and are there to hinder the player's progress. There is one chain chomp in particular that is Bowser's pet and if you rescue it, it becomes a weapon for Bowser.

you completely missed super mario rpg, where the chomp has actual storyline connected to him. he gets locked in a room inside booster tower, mario and gang end up saving him and he decides to join the party as a useable weapon for bowser! im pretty sure there is dialogue in the game that explains this which sorta gives character development

Glad you gave a nod, ever so slight, to the purpose Super Mario RPG's Chain Chomps. They were an obstacle, enemy and potential weapon. There was even one that you could find that was weapon for Bowser, who "helps her out" off screen because "she is shy." I guess he showed her some empathy... or maybe he helped her with something else. Either way, you get a powerful chain chomp as a weapon for Bowser.

Chain Chomp was one of my favorite Mario enemies a few years ago. My favorite Chain Chomp appearance was probably Mario Superstar Baseball or Mario Kart: Double Dash.

Chain chomp in SM64 DS is also found at Peach Castle at multiplayer mode.Also he moves freely, like in the bob-omb's battle gield silver star mission.

In foster's home for imaginary friends, about episode 1-2, chain chomp is technically features as an imaginary friend, and was like a boss of some sort.

You forgot about Chomp is Super Mario RPG. He was used as a Guard Dog, had a growl noise and Bowser takes him and uses him as a Weapon. This was pre N64 chomp too.

You forgot about its application in Super Mario RPG where it is used as a weapon by Bowser. It actually talks to Bowser and wants to join your team against Smithy. Then there is another version of Chain Chomp in that game called a Kinklink which just dangles from the ceiling and is only a means of holding up chandeliers. It can be attacked in the beginning of the game to make the chandelier drop with Bowser on it.
