So sad, I just pulled two half gallon jars of dried beans that had little bits of mold forming. Thank goodness it was only two...I'm going to try rinsing them and planting in the spring. Now I use a blow dryer to make sure they're completely dry!... Also, I sent something to your PO Box! 💜

You need to clean your jars thoroughly, sterilize in oven after cleaning (without lids) you need to wash your lids and let them dry completely, place in the oven in pan for 15 minutes right before you put them on your jars. Do not put your lids in warm water for dry canning. Your jars can not be wet, you need to throw out the rice that has moisture, you can get a disease called botulism (It can be deadly). It's called dry canning for a reason. Once your jars are completely dry you can add your beans or rice, place in a pre heated 250 degree oven for 1 hour for 1/2 gallon jars and 30 minutes for quarts (without the lids and rings) 15 minutes prior to removing the jars place your lids and rings in the oven on in a clean, dry baking pan. Remove your lids from the oven and then take one jar out, wipe of top of jar with a clean damp cloth and then place the lid and ring, repeat until all the jars are sealed. Make sure before you start this process that all rice and beans are completely dry, your counters, utensils, jars, lids are sanitized, do not touch the tops of your jars or anything inside. You can store for 15-30 years if you do it properly. Watch, Country Living Experience: Dry canning rice and beans or Our Little homestead: Prepper Series How to dry can beans and rice.

I stumbled across your video and watched out of curiosity. Just wondering why do you dry can instead of using moisture absorbers and vacuum seal? Just wondering cause that’s how I do all my dry stuff, but also I’m in Wyoming where the climate is super dry and we don’t have to worry about same kind of bugs as in the more humid climates.
@LittleFrenchyinBigTexas
@LittleFrenchyinBigTexas Жыл бұрын
I do moisture absorbers and vacuum seal too. But I place it first in the freezer for a week to make sure any bugs are dead. So, it is a longer process at the end.

@@LittleFrenchyinBigTexas oh ok that makes a lot of sense and that’s what I figured was the reason. Im so thankful we don’t have issues with weevils and such up here, my Mom grew up in the south and would tell me the things they would have to do to safeguard and it sounds tedious. 😳

Hello! This is only for dry goods like flour, sugar or rice. Anything liquid needs to be pressure canned or bath canned depending on acidity of liquid.

Just found your channel, and the 1st thing I want to know is the onion garlic honey a recipe that you will share? Is it just those ingredients or is anything else in it? It just sounds so yummy I needed to ask..
@LittleFrenchyinBigTexas

Hello Melanie! It is yummy and very easy to do. Some people just do it with onions and local honey. I add garlic as well to mine. But it is really up to you here. Make sure all is thinly cut. Another good one for the cold is fire cider. I made videos on this last winter and on some recipes I like for the winter. Here's one: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bJhhgpaD372skn0.html

I vacuumed sealed my flour and sugar and beans. Is there an advantage to doing it in the jars using this process? Just curious.
@LittleFrenchyinBigTexas
@LittleFrenchyinBigTexas 2 жыл бұрын
I used to vacuum seal while my husband cans... I think you kill all bugs that might be in your flour for instance when you hit up the jar for 90 min. I guess they probably die without oxygen too if you vacuum seal... that's probably going to be one of my next video topic as I would welcome feedback as well on this!

I am so interested in this method! May i ask in Europe do they pressure can there foods? I had heard they really only water bath can or oven can… i am trying some ‘rebel canning’ and would like to hear your thoughts. If people in Europe can without pressure canning and don’t get sick why can’t i!?!? Please share your thoughts! Ty in advance!!!

Hi Tanna, I recently learned from my husband (a Texan) and do not know how they do in Europe. I imagine they pressure can as well. Why wouldn't they? Good luck on your "rebel canning". My husband has quite a few videos on a variety of canning, soup, milk, bacon, etc. If you want to check out his channel: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jZ1hjciLq7aRYYU.html

IBC Tanks - they are very very cheap - nearby food factories will give you them for free or ask for small amount of cash. They store 1200 gallons - a 200 sq foot roof collects 14000 gallons during 1 inch of rain - 1 PVC pipe on one 8th the perimeter of the house - sat in your gutter taking the water to the tank will give you 100 gallons easily. wish u well!

If it did not seal, I would clean ring, put lids back on and put back again in the oven for the same time as the first one. Pretty much re-doing it.
