I've always wanted to try it and so many of you have asked me to do a video on it...so thx again Paul! Here is his video from what feels like 100 years ago. Use a sort of tent to cover the whole car before the dry ice application and please do not swipe the dirt out by brush or compressed air. Use a vacuum cleaner or collect them from wet floor then into a specific container. Thnx for the great content.

I didn't even know ice blasting was a thing until now, it looks real cool. As far as the soot getting everywhere, two things: 1. You now have a reason to do a "Detailing My Shop" video, if desired. 2. Other people say drop down walls/curtains, but since the design of the studio might make that difficult, an easier solution could be using those plastic covers (like you used on the green Porsche to protect it from that one concept Baja) to form a tarp over the lifted car. Then you could tape the end facing the open garage door to an industrial fan to suck soot outside to make cleanup easier.

When dry ice blasting, consider isolating your car on a domed curtain so the rest of your amazing garage stays clean. Pre-wet all surrounding surfaces with soapy water to catch and flow those greasy solids down the drain. A down-draft paint booth type of setup might work well too.

I worked at a car parts manufacturer years ago, and they would contract out to have their machinery cleaned with dry ice. Loud as hell, but works. That said, there is a reason why any type of particle blasting is done in a cabinet, outside, or contained some how. With dry ice at least you don't have to worry about also cleaning up the particle's, as it simply evaporates. If you are going to pursue this, I highly recommend some sort of cordoned off area to contain the blowoff.

A quick note on detailing the car before selling it: as a buyer, when I see a car that has been cleaned (either the underside or the engine bay), my immediate thought is: the seller cleaned it to hide the leaks. I'd much rather see that the car is in the original dirty daily driving condition and there are no leaks or no major leaks (and when you do see some leaks you understand what you need to service after buying the car).

Larry, those ice machines are cool for removing rust, but a hotsy pressure washer will do better for removing grime. They use a kerosene heater in conjunction with a very high flow water pump and are absolutely incredible for cleaning. Heat loosens grime, just like with dishes. Keeps you from damaging metal as well, but it will scalp paint.
