Food looked good! I think there are so many things that can go wrong with concrete, the blistering is usually when the top layer dries faster than the rest below it and then air can't escape... at least that's what I read... I'm no pro... just researching a lot... if the water is too forcefull it will also cause problems... and I think once it's all set up and not going to move, you want a lot of water and literally can't have too much water during a wet curing phase... you usually get rain down in LA so you get that natural wet cure... I saw some people do it out in the desert and it got blisters from the top drying out... like regular wet pour concrete if it's too dry (not enough water) then it's bad too, so you can't have too much water and not too little water or all the material won't get wet enough to go through the chemical reaction, they call it a C-S-H reaction... I saw one guy putting wet rags on top of his dry pour.... I want to try doing foundations and walls maybe with some kind of metal screen on the side for the form that will let the water go through but keep it's shape... with dry pour and see if it works...

@@CajunCountryLivin haha. Yes, we are in Appleton area which is about 25 minutes south west of Green Bay. It’s beautiful and it’s been pretty warm (80’s) and dry by us for the past two months. Our area is beautiful and a combination of nice communities (large and small) along with surrounding dairy and beef farms. Most dairy farms have gone from family farms to allot of large farms with some as many as 3000 cows. If you go two hours north of us in Wisconsin it would be very similar to what you experienced in Minnesota. Lots of fishing, bear, coyotes, etc with beautiful plush evergreens, pines and trees. You should see it in the fall when the leaves change colors. Wow! But… it’s colder and allot more snow than we get in the winter. I laughed at your expression about the bear! That’s what I think about alligators! Haha. I’m glad you guys had a fun time.

Aye! Seen some people mention they've used a different type of mix on the final inch or so to make smoothing easier. Also, if anyone runs into this, brands matter a lot. Saw a guy use a generic store brand, run out, and get quickcrete and was blown away how much easier it was to smooth comparing the two. Location matters too, some places have more sand or bigger rocks in their bags even of the same brand, but not much you can do about that.

What would your best suggestion be to prevent rain damage once the slab is complete to protect from rain? I was thinking of laying sheets of wood over the slab between watering to protect the finish. What’s your opinion please. Al

Liking your dry pour more and more. Did you stumble across this by accident(experimentation) or did you do research and find a formula from someone else? If it was your own idea, as I have seen others do this type of pour with skepticism and they referred to your channel for the idea, how did you decide on the amount of water to use.
@CajunCountryLivin
@CajunCountryLivin 11 ай бұрын
We actually developed this method because we struggled with mixing cement and finishing it. It seemed like the amount of water for some “ready mix” batches were spot on, then, the same amount of water was too much or too little the next batch that we purchased. We experimented for a few years to get the water and finish right with our dry pour method! Now every time we pour a slab it’s perfect every time with no worries or rushing to get it done!😁😁

So I did a dry pour slab and oh god, as a perfectionist tried my best to make it perfect but eventually (3 hours of finishing) I gave up and figured a little imperfections wouldn’t hurt. So I misted it twice (once per hour) then did the showering 1 per hour as well and it came out looking great overall but… there was spots where it bubbled (spalled) and created little circle craters. Very thin not deep but still noticeable. I am really curious what went wrong. Did I over mist, not mist enough? Or is it part of dry pour method? I see many people have this issue with the dry pour… What do you think it is? If anyone knows lmk! 😊

I could watch you guys do this 1000 times, I still think using a cement mixer doing a wet pour is the way to go. lol Enjoy your mini holiday y'all.

So I am not a contractor but I do work with concrete on the daily. Not hating or anything I just wish to understand is all. It seems the water process takes a couple hours since you have to water it a handful of times. I feel like if you ordered a truck or rented your own mixer you could get it done faster? I know dry poor is more for none load bearing projects. Do people find it being less work and back breaking? Cheaper? In the DIY sense not hiring. Just curious would love to hear back!

Great questions…. We always say this isn’t a process for anyone wanting a fast project because this isn’t faster than a conventional mix and pour. However, this method is a great method for anyone to use that has no experience or skill set in pouring and finishing concrete. There is no hurry and you can take as long as you need to achieve the finish that you desire. In my opinion it is much easier than a conventional mix and pour as far as strenuous labor. In the end… you will end up with a concrete slab which ever method you choose.

Tell me more about this slab? How thick was it and describe how you watered it. You can still save this if you haven’t watered it properly.

Why don't you just use rock free concrete on the top layer?? Like 1/2" or so?

Loving all these dry pour projects. Would you have any suggestions how to do an exposed aggregate finish with the dry pour method? Something like:
kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jM1jg5d4r7fVg3k.html We’re putting in 315 feet of aluminum fence over a 10” wide x 3” deep concrete mow strip underneath (to our digger Ottis from escaping and to eliminate weed eating under the fence. Because each fence panel interlocks from inside one post to the next post (rather than attaching on the outside of the fence posts) so we’re thinking dry pour would allow us more time to position all the posts & panels in place before wetting the cement but we’d love to expose some river rock aggregate. PS: I’m not hiring this done because this project is one my son was going to help me with almost 2 years ago … but just after I purchased the fence panels he passed away in a tragic car wreck & I’ve not had the heart to finish it. Now that I’ve found some courage to face this project again, I really want to do it myself & send a thumbs up to heaven.
