I'm sure you know that hair absorbs water, but did you know that when hair that is knotted swells up it can loosen those knots? this is why you want to drive the cap of your human hair wig, even if you are going to let the hair dry. you want to keep those knots from loosening as much as possible. this will help extend the life of your human hair wig.
This only applies to human hair wigs, synthetic fibers do not absorb water.

The wig I am wearing is Danity from In Vogue Koncepts by Kirsten (Formerly In Vogue Medical Wigs and Beyond) in the color Copper Spice.
the one on the dryer head is also Danity but in the color Bronde Balayage.
The lighting in my room doesn't so a good job of showing the colors accurately.
