Thanks a lot for the paper towel idea. It's sometimes frustrating to have to wait a day or two for the paint to dry to put on the next layer. This way things can move faster!

I paint basically in this same technique and I got so much flack for it in art school. Smh my professor said I would run into problems by not using more medium but I like the control of a drier mix. It’s my style and works for me. This was refreshing thank you!

Absolutely love this!! Thank you so very much!! I’ve been putting off working with oils for some time now for this exact reason. I literally just purchased a whole new open acrylic line and got them in yesterday. Lol 😂 I wish I had seen this before I ordered . But oh well , I can always go to oils next time. Though I do have some cheap oils and some Linseed oil I don’t have anything to clean up with. So I had told myself that if I ever did get to work with oils it would be the water Soluble oils, so clean up would be easier and not smell so bad. But I’ll stop rambling on ! Lol again thank you so very much for this tip and for all you do.

Great tip Kevin I personally appreciate the info and tip cause I get annoyed how long it takes at time for it to dry so it doesn’t get muddy. I’d love it if you could go into detail a bit more how you wipe the under painting as well. I know you mentioned it but how do u wipe it without it all becoming muddy or smearing where u don’t want it to etc?

I have recently painted your Mossy Falls from the tutorial you created. I am very much a beginner. It was nice to create something I am resonably happy with considering it is only my 5th painting. I love the step by step method to mix and use the brushes. Perfect for me as a beginner. Thank you again x

Don't think your painting is ever bad. The blending is what I do with my works as I'm an impressionist painter. I squeeze paint straight from the tube and apply it (with my large pieces). I've never been about technique, when I was getting my Fine Art degree my lecturer was an abstract artist, so he was all about expression. I find if people try too much to hard to represent others works their signature style doesn't come through. (I'm all about self expression though as I am an Art Life Coach). My point being just let it flow and you'll enjoy it more as your natural abilites will shine. Bless you and your gifts xox

What you're doing is basically 'Tonking' - nothing to do with the Chinese port, but named after Professor Sir Henry Tonks, who did what you're doing, though in the days before paper towels: he used pages from The Times, instead! It soaks up the extra oil, of course. His technique generally was different from yours, of course - lacking things like gels, he almost certainly worked on a completely dry canvas (though who really knows? He might have applied a little oil to begin with, with his lean lead white: wouldn't have been a good idea at all with the much oilier Titanium White, though).
@teego3936
@teego3936 4 жыл бұрын
I am glad someone know what the technique is, though it is not used for drying paint. Tonking is used to create texture.

Is it wrong of me to think that the tree on the right (to me) looked better without the highlights? ;) It just looked like every little leaf was painted on once the paper came off. Is that what happens when you lift that layer of oil off the canvas? Or was there a little more brushing done just prior? Regardless, it looked great.
