Art teacher rant: The reason it turns out olive green and not bright green is that you used a warm yellow with a slightly orange tint and an ultramarine blue. it DOES matter which red yellow and blue you use. Primary colours are not ANY red yellow and blue! Only Lemon Yellow, Cyan blue (or cerulean) and Magenta red. any other hues will distort the result! (or create more natural, earthy tones like that dark purple or olive green

I’m an art major and I thought you’d appreciate this slightly irritating part of my class: We were given a set of watercolor paints and had to make a color wheel with a golden yellow, ultramarine blue, and “crimson” that was actually a red-orange color. I had to use gouache with them but she’ll never know 😭😂 but how were we supposed to do a color wheel without primary colors?
@christiandoodles

Lemon yellow is made by adding orange to yellow. Cerulean is something like2 grays and a blue....crimson is like 2 reds ,an orange n an extra red or something like that 😅😅😅😅😅 gonna need another word apart from primary.even cyan is blue with a tiny bit of green

Idk why exactly. But i think the oil sticks turned out better. They do 100% both look great & have their own ups & downs. But i enjoy the final look and seemingly a bit more detail to the oil sticks. I know it took more work. Which is one of the cons for the sticks. Idk. They seem to be just a very different art medium. But both very beautiful in their own way. I reallllly want to get my hands on some of those oil sticks now. I've never tried using them. Awesome video !! As usual, Thanks for the in site!!

My dad has these oil stick marker sort of things. When I asked him what are these he said they were used to write on machines & now I’m surprised to see that they are made for oil painting 😂

I cringe when I saw “Oil sticks” they are the Bane of my existence! All joking aside, I became jaded with them because I was told by my visual art specific high school to buy it, and we were never taught how to use those stupid things (We were told to specifically to buy the Shiva oil sticks I remember), so we wasted money on sticks we weren’t even going to use or learn to use and they were a nightmare to use when I was a high school student. Part of it was due to the dried oil on top to keep it from fully drying out and it *was not explained this was the case*. So I’m going to be honest that I kinda wished you were given these back then so I could have at least learn what they did so I could use them more effectively back then lol.

Oil pastel use an oil type that doesn't dry ever. Oil paint sticks made with different oils so dry over time.
