Leah, I am so thankful for you. I’m a single homeowner with no “handy person” to help me with house projects. You have helped me so much. The people around me are so impressed with what I have done/am doing all on my own! It has saved me so much money, it has assured me a job well done, it has alleviated the anxiety of paying a stranger to come into my house to do it, it has increased the value of my home, and perhaps most importantly, it has made me feel empowered and confident that I don’t need a man to get things done. I thank you so much, and I really appreciate the way you break things down for beginners. You’ve made real difference in my life. Thank you, and keep it up! 💖💪🏽

+Raeed Tayeh KZfaq is better than a TV show. You can search on topics and KZfaq automatically suggests related content. Unlike a TV show, you can watch the videos as often as you want, any time. Also, unlike a TV show that is constrained by advertising breaks, a KZfaq video can be 100% information, no fat and no time wasted by rehashing previously covered information following a commercial break! (If you've ever watched a Home & Garden TV show, you know what I mean: Seven minutes of information, following by 3 minutes of commercials, followed by two minutes of recap after the commercials. In the end, a half-hour show has just 10 minutes of useful information, if you're lucky. It's mostly a waste of time and an exercise in frustration.)

Hello Ms. Leah. After watching several videos for the past several months I recently stumbled across yours and can not express how much I have enjoyed each one! Thank you for explaining each project in a thorough step-by-step manner. The medium pace at which you explain things also makes a world of difference. In doing so, we are not confused along the way (i.e. having to continuously replay the video due to one speaking too fast!). Thank you so much for taking the time to HELP those of us in need of home repairs, that for one reason or another need to do it for ourselves! May you be blessed for all that you have sown and sacrificed in your endeavors!

Thanks a lot. I'm 33 and have to do a lot of home repairs for my mom these days, but I only have basic knowledge of carpentry and tools. I'm sure you made this video for the purpose of helping people, and you did.

Been in the trades for a long time (1 trade, Union Ironworkers) I am doing some remodeling on an older house I bought last winter and have been using KZfaq to do it for the most part because ironwork does not translate to carpentry barely at all. You are a great instructor , very patient . Perfect for the very new . A bit too patient for my experience, until now. I’ve walked by 25 years of drywall and drywallers and realize I didn’t know sh:t about drywall outside of patching holes poorly . Thank you.

Leah, thank you so much for this video and your other ones about texturing. I had a couple minor cracks above doors, and a rather big one across my ceiling that I taped and mudded. I then blotted on more mud with a crumpled up plastic bag and flattened it gently with the taping knife. Primed, painted, and you cannot see anything is amiss now. I was able to do it from following the techniques in your videos. Your confidence is contagious! You're a treasure!

This has helped me SO much, as a woman who loves to do home improvements, and loves to get her hands dirty, and a husband who hates them, he'd rather go get his nails pulled out than to do a simple home improvement ! we bought a mobile home after my health got worse, and I needed to be on 1 level not 3 like our house is, but the young couple who owned it before we bought it almost destroyed this place, and since I'm use to a house, I wanted my trailer ( mobile home) to look more like a nice home, not the cheapness of the trailer and by all means they are not cheap at all when you go buy one, but some are cheap made like mine! fake wood everywhere. Anyways, I removed the fake pieces of wood trim running up and down my walls every 2 foot or so, and now I've made a mess and a lot of work for myself, so when I found this I was delighted ! I ran to Lowes and got my materials, and now I'm watching once again for a refresher course so I know I'll be doing it right ! THANK YOU !!!

Wow, great job. I should have watched your video a long time ago. Here's a few of my noob tips - stuff I learned the hard way: 1. Use a small putty knife for filling in screw/nail heads for jusr the first coat, and fill in the hole starting at an edge. If you go right over the top, you can get an air bubble that you just gotta deal with that. 2. Do not use the solid fiberglass tape, just don't. 3. Use a low angle on your knife to spread, going lighter and lighter to smooth. 4. Use a higher angle to scrape of excess 5. Keep the ready-mix closed tightly. Scrape away the plaster from the top-inside of the bucket take assure a good seal. 6. Make sure no dry bits of plaster are mixed in with the wet stuff, it'll just leave streaks. 7. Don't just use a small knife for the job, you need larger knife to smooth properly or you'll end up doing more sanding and coating then needed. 8: Double check the thickness of the existing drywall before buying more to patch in - it comes in 3/8, 1/2, and 5/8 thickness.

@alexandergraef8940
@alexandergraef8940 7 жыл бұрын
The paper binds to the mud, so it works right away if tensile strain occurs. The fiber tape needs a full tensile strain before working, by then the mud if often already broken.

+jusb1066 if they dont use jointape they no craftsmen. i use it all the time, but its my realday work. hotmix as in video i only use in repair, never else. the finish mix, have glue in it, so the joint works like a welding point. but it takes longer time to dry using this, normaly 24hrs.

+jusb1066 20 years?! I was using it 40 years ago in UK....... But, you are right about the absence of tape. Funny thing, the British use drywall, but then they skim over the whole surface, just as they used to with lath and plaster. This is no doubt the fundamental explanation for the decay of British civilisation. Thank you Leah for your wonderful, clear tutorials. You have a real genius for teaching.

1Howdy1 I live in Vermont and do almost all smooth. And we skim every thing using mark v and tape tech smoothing blades all the way up to 4 feet. They call it level 5 or airless plaster.

You are welcome. You rock. I am doing a lot of home repairs by myself on my mother's home. I have siblings that only have excuses for not contributing by any means in the process. I do possess a high IQ and I know that I am the only one that cares to do a job right. I patched a major hole in a drywall and the repair is perfect. I am proud of my work and am I am pleased that some like you that is there to give advice and in includes advice to me. People like are an inspiration to me. I believe that I can do it and it is done.

There is a third tape that doesn't get mentioned often, but I get really good results with fiberglass tape. Adds a little more strength than paper, more flexible than mesh. And Jane my dear, YOU ROCK!!!

Excellent video. I've done drywall quite a few times and after watching this video I realized I have been mixing the compound the wrong way by adding the water into the compound. I also realized that I should mix the 2nd coat with more water. Thanks for the great video.

Raeed Tayeh, I support your comment...Leah certainly has a special talent in both delivery of how she talks to "us" and she fills in the blanks in the small details that we would be wondering about through the process. What a gem of a gal! Doing some drywall work today...this vid was so helpful...thanks Leah! Gratefully,, Eastern Canada, carpenter, MaryEllen

Thanks to you Leah my drywall work this week came out looking super fine! Following your lead I used the paper tape instead of the mesh. Wow! Fab results. My trowel work isn't as "expert" as yours but with practice comes improvement....you are so right on: "Yes you can do this!" What a treat having you as a go to person....love how friendly and encouraging you are in your vids. Your delivery in covering questions a general "newbee" would ask is greatly appreciated....On to the next task to keep things moving forward with success....you rock Leah! I have subscribed to your KZfaq channel. Kindred spirit, Eastern Canada, MaryEllen

Jane I just wanted to let you know that although it has been some time since I tackled a relatively big drywall project. So I did a search for mudding butt joints to ensure i was current and up to date. I must say I watched your video and found them to be extremely educational, helpful and encouraging. I had to drywall an 18x20 room and with your video it reinforced my confidence to get the job done correctly. I wish I could share some photos last night I primed the walls and all looks great, thank you

Thank You Jane....!!!! Excellent video....!!! I'm a handyman with almost 20 yrs in the business, and is the first time I see someone explained so well...!!! I can not add anything, just that for me cleaning the borders of the almost dried mud with a almost wet sponge help a lot to get rid of the rough corners. Good luck and Thank You again.

Hey Leah! This is the video that you made that got me kickstarted into joint compound. I tried all kinds after this, pre-made quick dry, pre-made takes-until-the-end-of-time, dries and your homemade. I found that after the rooms were done or areas of, that over time, the making-my-own option, held up the best. Anyway, I didn't have an account on the youtubes back then to say THANK YOU. So here's a great big fat THANK YOU for my kickstart into what is just so flippin' fun to do. Who knew that I could do it? You did! You're brilliant. I truly, truly enjoy your work. Cheers, Ivy.

Had water damage in a small room. Trying to save a few dollars, i googled some ideas and sad to say things didn't quite turn out right. The vault ceiling had tape on it which I pulled off and accused the previous owners of doing shabby work until I watched your video and realized that's actually what I need to redo. Will go to Lowes tomorrow and get the tape, trowels & joint compound & follow your directions. You made it look so easy and now I understand the process. Thank you so much. I CAN DO THIS!!!

Finally I can finish drywall and have it look great thanks to this video. Just finished prepping my kitchen for new cabinets. Soffits were removed and the drywall needed to be patched in and made to go with the existing ceiling. It came out just like a pro. Never knew about putting my hand on the back of the knife like she shows. I wish I had seen this video years ago. Would have saved me a lot of pain!
