It's unfortunate there isn't more of an in-depth interview with Marc Alaimo in the doc itself. He was such an integral part of the show that it would have been bland and colorless without him. Perhaps someday, people beyond his small, but loyal fanbase will recognize his greatness and give him the credit he truly deserves.

@kaitlyn__L3 жыл бұрын
@ Rick Berman was a producer throughout the “TNG era”. Prior to Paramount hiring him for Trek he’d only produced a children’s show. Additionally, many people blame him for some of the treatment of women on the set, and for slightly regressive attitudes in writing in that era. For instance Denise Crosby partially blames Berman for her wanting to leave so early. (If you fancy watching some videos about it, Jessie Gender did a video about the treatment of women in Trek a year or two ago; and there’s also a video called “Berman Trek” by Renegade Cut.)

One of the finest actors Ive seen. I can count on one hand the number of actors who've been able to pull of a "villain" that also in certain episodes elicits empathy and sadness for the character. Not easy to do, the writing has to be good, but the acting, for it to be believable across the arc of the character, well that has to be impeccable. The other notable mention in that regard though not trek related, is Zod from Man of Steel. I forget the actors name, but he too was masterful in that way in that role.

Met him in the hotel bar. Back then, Trek fans were NOT drinkers, which gave my friends and I an easy in, since most of the actors were. Anyway, he's a really nice guy: optimist and Harley enthusiast (we did NOT talk about trek; I don't think he'd have stayed if we had). The documentary did him a real disservice. Clearly Ira Behr never forgave him for making his bad guy so damned charismatic and popular with the fans. (Ira, if you want a flat, two-dimensional villain, don't hire a great actor!!)

That's because in the first four seasons he was written to be an antihero on the road to redemption. To be fair they could slap Ferengi makeup on her and it'd still look good on her

Interesting. I always thought it was weird that Dax had a different design than the Trill that appeared in TNG. They looked like she did here.

Not the purpose of this video, so I'm not sure how this came up, but..they test-screened her with the TNG Trill makeup and it just didn't look great for so many reasons. Rubber prosthetic alien-of-the-week doesn't always make for a good main castmember. So they went with Famke Janssen's Kriosian spots instead. I think it was a good call.

No spots on Dax?

The original Trills didn't have spots, they changed the look for Terry after Paramount executives watched the dailies of Terry Farrell in DS9 pilot "Emissary", they issued a rare ultimatum about the Trill make-up scheme. The executives insisted the make-up be changed via removal of the forehead markings; having spent a long time seeking a beautiful actress for the role of Dax, Paramount wanted to avoid Farrell being defaced by prosthetics.

Terry Farrell was allergic to the prosthetics, which is also the reason that Dax never took part in the undercover mission in 'Apocalypse rising'

@@narohato1749 No, a producer literally said she looked ugly with the forehead crap.

I'd love to see the footage from LOST season 6 where Terry O'quinn stabbed Mathew Fox in the gut, well...there was a piece of Teflon that saved Fox from dying, but...anyway, yeah.
