Glad to see your back on YT! I watched a lot if your video oriented videos when you were a teenager when I was exploring learning video creation.

For the Canon T3i I would suggest a program called Magic Lantern. It opens up some built in features Canon bake in but didn't turn on. Magic Lantern turned my T2i into a whole different camera. Even today I still shoot with it on a few projects. Love the look even today.

One of the best cameras on budget is Canon 5D mark II. Especially with Magic Lantern

Lovely! I have a Lumix GX85 and the image is beautiful. The absence of a mic in the GX85 is a bit of a bother, but the 4K from the camera is just incredibly sharp and holds up very well going into 2023. My video workhorse, the Panasonic GH5, is still my bread and butter camera for pro work. With this video I am now tempted to look back at the BMCC 2.5K, which was the other camera that I really liked back in the day :)

Agree, I've had my og bmpcc since 2015 and each time I think about selling it I convince myself the image is too good, too unique, and anyone I knew that owned one in the past and sold it definitely regretted it, so I just keep it, use it once in a while. I have several other 4k cameras but that little Blackmagic pocket cam is something else. Also agree with Sennheiser as an audio capture device, they really are fantastic, been using my ME66/K6 for several years amongst other shotgun mics and have loved it until I recently bit the bullet and picked up a used mkh416, now the ME66 plays second fiddle. Good Audio quality is certainly getting easier and cheaper due to the popularity of KZfaq, gotta love healthy competition. Great video as usual, keep them coming!

Ironically, I feel like by using an old camera like the BMPCC OG, the footage stands out compared to everyone else using the most modern camera or their iPhone. It has such a soothing image quality to it, idk how else to describe it. I just rigged mine out and am excited to shoot with it.

I'm wondering what color profile are you using on the t3i after all these many years. I remember back then you would use cinestyle but then changed to vistavision. What is in your opinion best color profile for that camera?

I would very much like to see it using a panasonic HVX-200 or HPX-170 or panasonic P2 card cameras. Two models of cameras that are widely used in the audiovisual culture of skateboarding. However, there are also few people who really try to deepen their ways of using it, at its maximum potential, seeing what you do, I always imagine that you would be one of the people who would do very interesting things and with details outside the curve.

I'll just add that if you use the super sample feature in Davinci Resolve to the pocket camera that it can enhance a lot of the details in the footage. It is a surprisingly good way to give the camera a bit more for the long haul.

I use canon EOS M with MagicLantern. It is known for it's artifacts and moire is one of them. I use a cheap diffusion filter and it helps. Maybe you can try to see if that helps with the moire on the OG BMPCC.

I definitely second the bit about shooting on cheaper lenses. I use a Fujifilm XT30 with a Ninja V, and I'm better off having spent my money on those parts of my setup and using a $160 meike 50mm prime f0.95 lens. If I had spent the money more focused on lenses, I'd still be shooting 8bit 4:2:0 at a high compression, with no external monitor to make sure things actually look good.

My first camera was a fixed focus, fixed aperture, fixed shutter speed no name film camera with a very bad fixed plastic lens. It was given me for my 9 year birthday in 1969, but let's forget about that. Let's also forget the first camera that I bought in September 1996, the Canon Eos 500 n (aka Rebel G) with a 28-80 mm kit lens, because although it was a decent camera, it too was for 35 mm film and of course couldn't record video. In the very early 2000's I bought a JVC GR DVL 160 camcorder which recorded to DV (Digital Video) tapes. And I've made some pretty good footage with it. A good viewfinder, impressive zoom range even without using the extended digital zoom, and with a Soligor 0.7x wide angle converter that I always kept on it, it was even better. The image stabilisation was very good, but the audio wasn't. No socket for an external microphone, and although the inbuilt one wasn't exactly bad, it was mono and, as far as I can hear, omnidirectional (I haven't been able to find any specifications about the microphone - there are none in the user manual). So in quiet parts of the video my breathing can unfortunately be heard very clearly. My first DSLR I bought in 2012: The Canon Eos 550D (aka Rebel T2i). Beautiful Full HD video, but no articulated screen and no autofocus during video recording. (And no headphone socket). In 2015 I got the 70D: Amazing autofocus, but still no headphone socket, In 2019 I preordered the 90D which does provide headphone connectivity. I still have no plans to buy mirrorless.

The problem is RCORDING at h.264 (exports are fine). It's such a big obstacle for sharpness and it really limits what you can do with your camera. Once you're in 10 bit territory, or hell even those fancy sony 8 bit codecs like XAVC-S are already much better

Speaking of coluor and grading... what do you think about 8bit Log footage?

What size sensor is in each camera? It would be helpful for the comparison. I bet by far and away the camcorder is the smallest, which I think makes it the most interesting to see worked with. I think there is some videos in that, I'm curious how far someone knowledgeable and technically skilled can push those small sensors especially with how much people feel the need to go full frame or they are missing out.

I monitor with a A7S 7IN monitor and Lilliput 10 in monitor too outside the camera .

I have an older dslr canon and moire issue is less prominent when recording raw with magic lantern, too bad it can't record 720p, let alone 1080p.

at this point wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a new body than to keep adding these fixes to the old ones to keep up with the times and quality standards? an EOS 90D or a MILC would be far better for videos. Especially MILC stuff since they have dual pixel AF or even cameras made for videos.

I have a 200$ phone, a 30$ ring light and i can shoot very good footage in my house even on dark conditions . Most important is to know how to record and then how to edit the footage. I dont think in 2022 someone needs a true camera with lenses. Smartphones already have good enough quality, you just need creativity and knowledge of how things work.

I got a ton of use out of the T2i back in the day I highly recommend installing magic lantern and then using ISO in intervals of 160 The way those old canons handle ISO is 100 is the base, 125 is digitally lifted in camera adding a TON of noise so avoid those 125 intervals like the plague, and 160 is ISO 200 darkened in camera which results in a slightly reduced dynamic range but a significant benefit to noise I recommend looking into "lens cap tests" that show the how this works out For example ISO 1250 is cleaner than 500 i.pinimg.com/originals/1f/0c/93/1f0c93f0e514cedac4f8c006ab4a7545.jpg
