This is awesome. Bought the remaining pieces that I didn’t have to make this rig (made a few minor changes) and it’s perfect ergonomics and function. I'm really grateful for channels like yours. I just got into serious DSLR sport after tinkering with it for 10 years I decided to go get myself a GH6 (I do mostly video work) and honestly, the "professional" camera club are very snooty and unhelpful to people wanting to start off. Like they think photography is a secret club and only some elites can join. I have a very similar setup to you so I'm really pleased that I've got something a professional considered good. I built up my cage around smallrig's setup.

Hey Caleb thanks for this awesome informative video! I have a question for you: Would you mind releasing a video of some test footage done with this rig? Of course every operator is different and handheld shooting is very much a skill, but maybe you could do a video of like various styles of shooting with different focal lengths, so we could get a grip of how effective this rig is in reducing shake? Maybe show us how YOU use it and why you think it works so good? I just really feel like this could help me make a decision about opting for something like this, since this is still a fairly large investment to make for a rig. Any response would be very much appreciated! Cheers

Agreed! I'd like to see Sony's XLR audio adapter attached for a quality shotgun mic and at least a solution for ND's be it screw on variables or a matte box with slide in filters. Will definitely decrease the portability/compactness but would step up the performance level!

I mean it’s just as solid now as it is then… the base of the rig is standard, Ud probably just swap out to ur preferred cage and follow focus and such

Man! THIS was truly the best cinema rig for the a7S III I've ever seen here on KZfaq - after watching tons of videos - and even Peter Lindgrens rig does not convinced me as yours! Will take a look into your description and start building my own rig. might be without the focus module but with a ninja v+ for raw option. and man... this thing really looks like a RED camera in the first moment because of the brick battery. good job! and thanks for your video 👌🎥

Using an arca between the camera and the rig rod plate thing is actually a great choice! Though below the rod plate I use a Manfrotto plate, as that's what my tripod head receives. Smallrig just launched a Manfrotto plate with foldable 4 legs to mimic the quick stand thing (3:55) and I want it so badly. I'm using a normal one and it is a bit wobbly.

I built this rig to a T. Absolutely loved the process and tinkering and loved the rig itself even more. I expanded it with a LED light and HDMI transmitter. It felt amazing in my hand and tried it for the first time a week ago to find out this is NOT for me haha. So I rebuilt this rig and all it's features to a gimbal and have now the perfect gimbal rig thanks to this video. Just goes to show everybody and every setting needs a different solution. Thanks a lot for this video. Learned a LOT
