Well... Filmmaker's Kit is still the KING 👑 in an out of line of sight situation. This is something that has not been improved in almost the last decade. Is this something, or what ? Nevertheless, Wireless PRO is an astonishing piece of technology. Congratulations to RODE for making it happen in an affordable pricing. They deserve all the credit.

great review! 👏 Your future accessories ideas are very good, fully agree! I'm actually thinking to make some 3D Printed mods for it, i.e. a bigger case, in which you can plug the transmitters with the Lavs attached + all other accessories. But this is stretching it too much into Pro gear and might be better just getting Pro gear at that point.

I hope I can turn off that new record-on record-off button. It’s gonna get tapped by mistake at some point. You’re right about the finish, when wearing it on a t-shirt I don’t really want it shining and taking attention (plus that new big record light).

The new record button on the transmitters can only be changed to start/stop recording (when unit is set to manual) or start a new clip (when set to auto record). It is WAAAY to easy to press. A firmware update really needs to address the lack of option to lock the button (or at very least require more than just a tap to activate)

I use black washi tape on my Wireless Go II for that shiny surface as well. Way less noticeable if you’re wearing it with their magnet kit. It’s not ideal, but if you plan on keeping it fully covered at all times, you could try to use a really light sandpaper to create some texture for the gaff tape to better grab onto it. Might not slip off as easily. But I’m with you, a matte texture on those would have been nice on the “Pro” model.

The 'every 4 hours' timecode jam will be because the timing crystals in most cameras can vary by a field (half a frame on 25/30 fps cameras) every 30 mins - the Rode devices themselves might be more accurate but this re-jamming will be because of the variance in cameras.

I know haha no sound test but for good reason. He mentioned It a little bit. He said he did wish they upgraded the actual onboard mics for these especially being the "pro" version but was disappointed they are the same from previous versions. You don't get higher audio quality with the bit rate of the file. 32 bit just has more information, so in post, you can bring up quiet sources without bringing up a high noise floor. And on the opposite end, if the source audio is too hit and distorted. It's like dynamic range on a camera or even the data speed which it records at. More information, more flexibility in post.

As always great first impressions/review video! But I do have a question: can the receiver change the gain of the transmitters individually? Like, if I want to have one at -12 and the other at -6? And I understand that with 32 bit float probably negates this need but still.. less editing is less editing.

I would absolutely love if in future firmware you could jam-sync the timecode of the receiver from an external source. It sounded like in the Q&A that they are working on that. I've tried unsuccessfully to jam the TC of my Atomos (Timecode systems) One, using the rode as the master. In a perfect world you could slave multiple Rode kits to a master TC generator via RF or BlueTooth (at the least)

i might need to get this for filming weddings. I currently use Tascam DR10L for weddings, and for my commercial/corporate/interview gigs I use the Sennheiser G4. But it would be kindof nice to monitor audio during a wedding (BUT also even if audio cut out, it's not like I can go stop the wedding ceremony to fix anything lol so maybe it's best I don't monitor and continue with my Tascams). But I do love my Sennheiser G4 for corporate work and monitoring audio on it, I wish they could record a backup track on the transmitter like these. Anyways these look cool.

A huge feature that many of these wireless lavs don't include anymore is the ability to switch frequencies, like on the Sennheiser G3's for example. Shooting in cities, there are often times where interference is an issue. Being able to switch channels or frequencies is such an underrated feature and arguably the most "pro" feature of all.

If I understand it correctly, there is no option to jam sync the rode time code from an external source. This makes the great addition of timecode kind of limited for bigger applications. It would be nice if you could jam sync the transmitters trough the input jack, imo this could be done with a software update.

After listening to the improvements section, I am finding many of the requests being beyond the price point. Also many of the features being asked for about audio routing and muxing can be done using multitrack recorders or similar. The adapter cables are already available from other companies, quite easily. Many of the features you are calling out are available from other brands already, but at a higher price. Given the target market and price for the products, I think the package is pretty much nailing it.

It’s great, that you can now directly copy the files from the devices. On the Wireless Go II, you always had to use the Rode Central app in the same version, than the transmitters, or you have to format the devices first, which is fatal, when you want to backup the files first…

After seeing the new Comica VM30 shotgun mic being sold as a way to do exactly that I was kinda expecting the next Rode wireless mic system to include it. Or maybe even just tease it as a future option. I love the idea of upgrading to 32 bit float and better controls on board and screw on lav connectors, but the price is a little above what I was expecting. At the moment I use the Sony F2 for 32 bit audio and the Wireless Go for better camera audio, but I often forgo the latter because it would be a hassle to hide two lav mics on my person. This would give me everything I want and a great second mic for interviews. And it's not nearly as expensive as I thought it would be. Wow, just wow!

@dslr video shooter . Just as a food for thought. You said: "since they recommended to sync every four hours I imagine there's some kind of drift". That's a valid point 100% but we never think of in relation to what that drift occurs. Maybe that BM cam's internal clock (on which it relies on after sync) is speedy, maybe that Alexa's internal clock is lagging behind? Maybe the most bullet proof, most accurate clock ever on a device would have to be recommended be to re-synced ever so often. Not because of that device providing the sync is imprecise, but because the receiving end is.

What makes these any better than the DJI option? It seems like most of the changes made were to catch up to the DJI variant. But for me personally I see the DJIs as the better option still (I don't use time code at work so that's not necessary for me) because they have both an output for camera and headphones on the receiver, as well as pins to charge off of in the case rather than using the USB port. The touch screen for me is way easier to use than navigating with buttons plus all settings can be changed on the receiver itself. Finally the mag is built into the clip on the DJIs so no need to add an extra attachment on to use the magnet. Sorry for the long post. This isn't supposed to be a rant but I'm just curious why anyone might choose these over the the competition.

Good review. The part I found funny is on 14 minutes, where you suggest a new device. I think it was just a matter of asking Rode for a TC-1 Deity unit for these mics. LOL! If they can let us receive timecode in the Rode transmitter units, this will make very productive timecode and will let us even have more mics on the field with the same timecode., Timecode will be usable in short shoots with only one camera for now. I have been using it in some sports jobs the Hollyland marks and the menus are awesome and the quality build is the best. The 32-bit float is the attractive part of these units.

@@andreasdk and it’s not that I disagree that audio quality ids important but the features are what is most different so spending time comparing just wasn’t his point this time. And honestly, nobody is gonna watch just one review on these anyway lol

@@beccamitchell05 Well, I wasn’t planning to dig deeply into these since I’m a big fan of my DJI mics. It just reminds me about how I also watch a ton of reviews about smartphones and only about 1% cares about actual sound quality in the calls (which a mobile is still being used for a few times a year ;)). This however is without doubt the main function. If these sounds greater than my DJI mics I might be interested. The rest is specs.

Thanks for the great videos... A question... Do we have any option to connect One LAV mic to two cameras or two receivers?

I am a still photographer getting into video. This looks fantastic! I have some quick interviews coming up and am thinking about using a mic boomed over my subject, attached to one of these transmitters. Any suggestions for a microphone for this purpose? Thanks!

Amazing upgrade! but the biggest oversight is that the Receiver can't take timecode in I think? because it can only generate timecode there is no way to jam more than one of these Receiver units together via timecode, I'm not sure how accurate the timecode is via the TOD setting in rode central either.

Great improvements but i get the feeling that the dji mic 2 will crush whatever shortcomings the rode wireless pro has. That's coming from someone who has 3 sets of the wireless go 2 and felt like a sucker when the DJI mic came out. Hate that it relies on the Rode app. What I wish Rode had done was include the ability to pair 3, 4 or 5 transmitters to 1 receiver. So I am also curious if having 2 or 3 receivers next to each other would still introduce interference. For pro use, sometimes you have more than 2 talents that need to have a mic or make the transmitter smaller so you can sneak it on the side of a mic for weddings or live events. Also wish they did a small Rode wireless pro sized power bank to power the wireless go pro for extended use. As always, great video.. quick question.. are your 3D printed accessories compatible with the Wireless Pro? Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for the review. Regarding range test. I’ve been using the Go2’s since release. The range is good, BUT at a wedding…a problem arises. Pre-ceremony testing vs. during ceremony, I experience unreliability. My best guess…an abundance of mobile phones, all competing for space on the 2.4ghz bandwidth, causing interference. Have you had this issue? Do you know of any testing that might confirm my theory? Since the Pro’s also operate on 2.4ghz, will they have the same issue? My Sennheiser G4’s don’t suffer this, as they’re UHF. But I just can’t give up the functionality of the Rode Go’s, and often just rely on the on-board recording in post. Also, do you know if we could transmit/record split channels, while sending TC via USB to the Sony FX3?

Hopefully they fixed the high pitch noise that is nearly impossible to get rid of from the first Wireless GO units. I paid a few hundred back then and they were incredibly disappointing with no offer from Rode on replacements when I contacted their support. It was a common problem that was well documented. I'm looking to upgrade my gear again soon but hesitant to send them another few hundred after my first bad experience.

Thanks for the review! There are the Tentacle Sync E and the Ultrasync Blue Timecode Generators out there. I am going to sync my Tentacle Sync E via Mode 5. But there is no way to sync my Ultrasync Blue via Bluetooth! It would have been nice, if Rode would have looked for more ore better time code integrety.

I was JUST ABOUT to pull the trigger on the DJI mic kit for my first lav set as I start my first YT channel ... and then I saw this. Honestly, I've never worked with timecodes and I have no idea how much 32-bit float will actually improve the sound quality, but this has high quality, more features, and a better price if you consider than DJI does not include separate attachable lav mics, which I was going to have to buy, so that pushes the DJI price up from $330 to over $400. If anyone knows of a BETTER lav mic kit for a beginning KZfaqr let me know. This looks like the one to me. I've worked as a voice over with my own home recording booth, so I'm familiar with audio editing and not afraid of working with the extra features in this Rode system.

This is a great update for Rode. Definitley a fantastic device however i think they are running into hardware limitations and are trying squeeze out as much as possible into an old design that they dont want to invest into R&D for a totally brand new device. Honestly i think the 32 bit float and timecode are novel updates but im concerned how they will fare against competitors. I used to own these Rode wireless mics and was completely surprised how while they worked, were lacking in futures, accessories and cheaply made the actual product was. If im going to be real, as a now DJI mic owner. When, not If, DJI makes their version 2 wireless mics with 32 bit, locking lav mics, and timecode with the amazing hardware it has... Its a no brainer. I think Rode has got to completely start over if they want to compete in the "pro" space.
