For some time now, we were already on the point of getting an on-site appointment at DT-Swiss - "we're moving house, we'd love to move" was the answer back then. In March we were able to visit the company in Switzerland. The headquarters of DT-Swiss is located in Biel/Bienne with more than 200 employees. Biel is the largest bilingual city in Switzerland and several major watch manufacturers have their (main) headquarters there, including Swatch, Omega and Rolex.
DT-Swiss owes its company name to the bilingualism of Biel/Bienne. The abbreviation of Vereinigte Drahtwerke Biel - DT - is made up of Drahtwerke and Tréfilerie (=Wireworks in French).
With a management buyout from "Vereinigte Drahtwerke", Marco Zingg, Maurizio D' Alberto and Frank Böckmann founded DT Swiss Bike Technology AG in 1994. In 1995 the Hügi hubs were started to be manufactured with a licence, and in 2003 the range of products around the wheel was completed with the production of their own rims.
In 2001 we were able to enter the shock absorber market, the suspension range was completed in 2008 with the takeover of the suspension fork manufacturer PACE - the development department for this is also located in Biel.
In 2011 the company moved into the new building. Here, marketing man Friso Lorscheider led us through the different departments and we were able to learn how rims, spokes, nipples, hubs and suspension forks are manufactured and assembled.
