Your PB3000s are gonna dig into the the lower 20hz, probably flat to 15hz. If you don't plan to go above 110db, your subs will be better than this monster. You will love them! I just hope your AVRs auto correct system will time align and EQ them perfectly. Otherwise you might have 1 or 2 massive dips in the response and it will feel like a lack of bass. Going dual is better but it requires some tinkering and probably some gear to create a graph to visually see what is going on instead of guessing with your ears.
@duhgreat84494 жыл бұрын
Quetzalcoalt I decided to go with two because I’ve been told it’s always better . My AVR is a marantz sr8012 . I’m excited to hear them but I understand you gotta dial them in perfectly . Not necessary. Most subs that have high excursion, have heavy cones in order to not flex under the pressure. These subs lack a good punch. The chest kick that happens at 80-120hz. So people who DIY for example 4x 18 inch ultimaxes, add 1 or 2 paper cone subs (like these ones) for this dynamic punch.

15:25 for a sub that is rated to go to 27hz that is a lot of movement for anything under 20hz at such low volumes. This thing can reach 127db continues and i know Shane won't blast it full tilt especially when they are two (i don't know a sane person who would thou :D). I don't expect those to be getting more than 50w at this demo. My question is, do they have a DSP high pass filter built in or the person who is setting those up has to add one manually in the software ? I'm asking this, because if they don't have it, and the setup guy forgets to add this filter, you play the Irene scene (that famous 6.5hz note) at moderate levels to impress your friends and they will definitely over-excurt.
@GeoffHeinzel4 жыл бұрын

What is the Irene scene?
@Quetzalcoatl04 жыл бұрын
@@bris007 The Irene scene from the movie Black hawk down. There is a 6.5hz note that is pushed close to 0db, near the clipping point. If you have a ported sub without a HFF to protect it from frequencies lower then the port tuning, the sub excruts like 5 times more. If you have a 22mm xmax sub and you are pushing it to those 22mm, 10hz below the tuning frequency will make the sub move like 60-70mm. Search on youtube the "Irene scene" with "subwoofer" or "home cinema demo" or something. There is a guy that has 16x 18inch sealed subs :D. It's insane.
@davel69794 жыл бұрын
If the subs hit that hard with that frequency response, is there a point to having subs dig into infrasonic frequencies? Why are we obsessed in this HT hobby with sub 20 Hz and would we miss much without it? Is there more to it? These capable subs seem to be just fine without having to go lower. Of course you know what’s missing because you’ve watched those tracks many times, just wondering if others would really appreciate it if they didn’t know what they were missing

As the comments said, under 20Hz is fantastic but I would still consider everything above it to be more important.
@Quetzalcoatl04 жыл бұрын
If you want to experience infrasonic bass, try to build a BOSS system. Look for it in the AVS forums. It's cheap to make the basic one. There is a HOVER BOSS too but that one takes more time and more money. Honestly i have one 12 attached under the couch and HOLY. It only give a womble effect do around 15hz, but man it adds a ton of tactile feedback from 23 to 15. Some people are getting 3hz, but that requires the HOVER BOSS to be build. I can do 110db at 10hz and 115db at 18hz, aaaaand i don't feel it even at those levels. Why u may ask ? It's because you need like 140db to feel 10hz. The lower the frequency the higher the SPL is needed to FEEL it. Yes the doors are slamming, everything is falling in the house, you feel the presence but not the direct wave.

I don't think ASCENDO goal for their ported subwoofers was for ultrasonic bass down to 10hz and lower. Their massive 21inch ported sub is only tuned down to 23hz. Goal was around 20hz and over at very very high output levels with practically no port noise disturbance. Whereas their sealed subwoofers are tuned lower. Helped by different drivers than their ported subs. 15inch sub has a extreme 36mm woofer excursion. And the 24inch sealed sub a unbelievable 90mm woofer excursion. That's more than any commercial and consumer sub in the world Including their own 50inch sealed sub that is only 35mm woofer excursion. Doesn't need to be higher as a 50inch woofer has so much cone area. To easily produce massive output even down at single digits 5hz.

Well this goes against what people were arguing with me about a few weeks ago that you need big subwoofer speakers to get real low bass. My Yamaha NS SW300 easily goes down to 20Hz with a 10" subwoofer
@Quetzalcoatl04 жыл бұрын
Getting low is easy. Getting low at 120db is not. The pb-1000 that i had before could do a max max of 103db at 20hz at the listening position. Now with the new subs i build i easily do 115db at 10hz.
@Steve30x4 жыл бұрын
@@Quetzalcoatl0 what the hell do you need 120DB for? I don't need extreme volume like that damaging my hearing worse than it already is. Anyway my subwoofer is more than loud enough. The NS SW is a very loud subwoofer. Also it's pointless having 10aHz when you can't even hear it.
@Quetzalcoatl04 жыл бұрын
@@Steve30x Exactly, anything under 17-18hz is pointless to have, a BOSS system should take over down to single digits. The 120db was for example. No one needs that much. I find that -8MV is enough for a house theater, might push it down to -5db MV but i can't with my current speakers. 3db is 2x the power so ye. -5db MV means that my subs have to each 110db at the listening position. If you watch 1 movie a day without getting exposed to more high spl noise though out the day will NOT damage your hearing. It's all about exposure time. :) Bass under 18hz is not about hearing it, it's about FEELING it. You feel the power on Godzillas foot steps. You feel the earthquake not hear it. It's a hell of a drug feeling the wobble under 20hz.
@Steve30x4 жыл бұрын
@@Quetzalcoatl0 I am more than well aware about exposure time. I have 24/7 tinnitus from exposure from loud music and it takes just a few minutes of 110Db to damage your hearing , just a few seconds of 115 Db to perminantly damage your hearing. You just have to look up American tinnitus association to get the correct information from their 50+ years of hearing loss and tinnitus research. Also if I turn up the volume loud enough I can feel the bass with my NS SW300 which goes down to 20Hz. You don't need subsonic bass to feel it.
