Absolutely!! 🎉 my 16 yr old isn’t driving yet, it’s her choice, when she’s ready she can. She does want to try Dual Enrollment, so she will start that in the fall. I never understood, even when I was teen, why people or society pushes kids “oh when they’re 18, they need a job and out of the house, they’re adults” - why? It makes no sense, so I’m not pushing my kids. They will do things when they are ready. 🎉 Great video!!

Amen. Our family has decided to not do dual enrollment at all. There is plenty of time for high school to be high school and upper level education to be upper level education. Everything in its time. I just turned 50 and I’m opting out of the rush rush rush push push push. There’s time. Also, I laid down my authority when I allowed my daughter to get an iPhone at 12/13. My husband was by all for it, but I knew she wasn’t ready. And we all paid for that dearly.

We rebelled from the "norm" in our area so many ways! We didn't put them in big day long activities that went all year like debate or theater (literally met 6 hours a week all year and then competitions), we didn't do the co-op thing nor the charter thing. We didn't do all the private instrument lessons. You have to judge for your family and your child.

I have an out-of-the-box kiddo - his whole life we have fought the "but everyone else is....." stigma. We have learned that we do what WE are comfortable doing WHEN we are comfortable doing it! it's takes some maturity on the parents part, honestly. While he is old enough to drive, he isn't ready. While he is extremely intellegent and could do dual-enrollment, he doesn't want to. And that's OKAY! We encourage, we guide, we make suggestions, but he will let us know when he is ready. But you're right.... sometimes I need to just stay off social media and not compare my kids to everyone else.

100% agree! My personal thoughts are why are we pushing kids into adulthood? The world is hard, life is hard- why would I want to graduate them at 16?? I want them to be kids and enjoy life. I know myself as an 18 year old kid I did not know what I wanted to "do" with my life so I ended up needing a 5th year to get my BS- because I shifted gears. My husband did terribly in college initially- he needed to work in the real world for 18 months and then went back to earn a PhD in biochem. Too much pressure on everyone! Love your views and you have such a peaceful tone of voice and presentation- thank you :)

Totally agree. In the long run, it’s not even going to matter if your child is a few years behind or ahead. Better to go with when the child is mentally ready.

Oh my goodness-I loved his video! We have learned with our son that he does things on his own time. He turns 16 this year, but he told me that he isn’t ready to drive yet. I am totally okay with that.

YES! And sometimes we just want our kids to be kids, we only have them as kids for 18 ish years, we know them as adults the rest of our lives, why would I want to speed that up? I tell mine all the time-you have the rest of your life to work, don't rush it. And, we homeschool to be able to do our own thing and have our own schedule, I don't want to be tied to someone else's schedule. We've graduated one already, I feel she's successful already, even without ever having done dual enrollment😁.

Love this! I definitely have these same feelings. We have never been co-op people. We tried a couple of times, but realized that we just do better on our own. But, the push to dual-enroll is really interesting. It does seem that every single homeschool high school group I am part of talks about the need for dual-enrollment, but my oldest just isn't interested. It's funny because that was always our path, but once we got to the point where she could dual-enroll, she decided she preferred to just do her own thing. Now she is in her last year, able to graduate a year early, and we are still not doing the dual-enrollment thing. Is it a great option? Absolutely! Free college credits (or credits at a reduced rate) sounds amazing. BUT, I didn't do any college credits before college, and I was able to do just fine. I don't think it is necessary. If she decides she wants to do a super-senior year and do that, great, but if not, I am not worrying about it either. I think a lot of homeschoolers feel like if they don't have those dual-enrollment credits on their child's transcripts it somehow makes the other grades that the parent has given not "real" for some reason. But, I am very confident in my high schoolers, and don't want to take away their childhood just because it is an option. Clearly I have a lot of thoughts on this topic! Great video 🥰

My Niece went to a public highschool, but was able to also take college courses during highschool at a local community college through a dual enrollment program. She was able to graduate with her associate's degree from the community college at the same time she graduated highschool. She's now working on her Bachelor's degree which she will be able to get two years earlier because she dual enrolled in highschool. Dual enrollment is great for those who can manage it, but not al students can handle this kind of arrangement. It all depends on the student and what is best for them. You are right, this isn't something that should be pushed on any family, but parents and students need to be aware of all the options out there. I have a nephew who was a terrible student when going to public school, but did home-school during his highschool years and turned out to be an amazing student. Turns out, without the distraction of trying to fit in/impress other students, he had no need to act out and actually paid attention in the homeschool setting. But, I can see where there might be some kids who are more likely to learn and pay more attention in the traditional classroom setting (whether that's public school or a private school). It all truly depends on the child/student and thier needs. No two kids are alike.
