REL are exceptional to deal with, they helped me out after I bought a second hand t3 and are now helping me out with choosing between a t9x and a pair of t5x's, as well as plenty of set up help with bridged mono amps. Would never look to another brand, partly because their products are so good and partly because they have so much time for their customers - even second hand owners that they haven't made any money from

Thanks Nemo. Another great review on a just-released REL product. Very cool! Quick question: do you think one could spot the difference between T5i and T5x on some kind of blind test? Trying to better understand the gap between old and new generation... Is the extra money worth it if I want to buy 2 of them.
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 3 жыл бұрын
I think so yes, the low end is noticeably stronger on the T5x, no doubt the larger cabinet helps with that. However the T5i is still an excellent subwoofer so I don't think current owners need to upgrade. Current T5i owners looking to upgrade should look to the T7x. For T5x I suggest pairs unless the room is very small.

Happy new year Nemo! Thank you so much for your extensive covering of the REL range. I'm on the fence between a t5x or t7x for my tiny home office. I listen to jazz and classical and am merely after adding some body to the midrange of my Dynaudio Focus 110's . Leaning towards t5x mainly because of its modest size and probably more than enough output. My only worry is its downfiring, would it be a nuissance for neighbours below or isn't this a real issue in practice? TIA!
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 6 ай бұрын
Hi bro, happy new year! I do not feel anyone should consider their neighbor when buying a subwoofer. I think you should consider your neighbor with listening habits meaning perhaps don't play too loudly past 9pm. So I think you should buy the sub you want. The overall volume is usually what's going to disturb a neighbor, I don't think driver orientation is a major factor. I used to have an SVS PC2000 in a third floor apartment and never had any complaints. Hope that helps.

firstly loving your reviews and the way you deliver them so thank you. secondly i want to pick your brains! do you think a SQ and a SPL subwoofer could intergrate well as a pair in a two channel music only system? i have a rel t5i and was thinking of adding a SVS 3000 micro. could this work by giving the best of both worlds or would it be like trying to make ice cream and ketchup work as a combo??
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 2 жыл бұрын
it will be ice cream and ketchup for sure. The heavier tone of the SPL style sub will drown out the nuance detail of the SQ sub. If you're looking to reinforce the T5 I'd use REL's own HT-1205, that has enough SQ to blend seamlessly while offering up a good amount more extension and output.

Great review great channel. If anyone knows the answer to this i cant seem to find online... I am running 2chnl 3way towers and the low freq woofers are 9.6". I am looking at the Rel tx7 which has a 8" driver and 10" passive radiator. Would that be a mismatch since the sub drivers are smaller than the tower speaker LF woofer? Or should i only consider room size? I just dont know if the tx7 is intended more for matching bookshelves or am i looking at this wrong? By the way my speaker are -+6 db 40hz, and the tx7 are -+6 30hz if that also should matter. My goal is sound quality and i dont want to introduce a large sub at risk of losing music quality, i want a fast responsive sub that doesnt shout here i am. Everytime I take the speaker grills off the PSB imagine minis and listen to music I end up laughing at how absurd it is that those tiny speakers are producing the sound I'm hearing. I'm assuming that the KC 62 is the only subwoofer that can match that absurdity in the low frequency range in terms of size vs sound while still satisfying my sound quality OCD as well. Hi Nemo, I like your video reviews and I love your style, attitude and honesty! I have to say that it’s because of you that I purchased a pair of Fritz Carbon 7 MKII and I could not be happier. Thanks dude! Although their bass it’s very good I would like to pair a sub with them. After watching some of your videos, I believe the REL is my way to go. My room is 13x11 feet. I drive the Fritz (38Hz-35KHz) with a PS Audio BHK preamp and a pair of Van Alstine DVA M225 Monoblocks. In the case of only one unit, should I go for the TZero or the T/5x? if the T/5x is a better option, is it even better than two Tzero? I would appreciate your best advice. Thanks.
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 4 ай бұрын
Wooo Simon that's a fantastic system you have there!!! We have similar sized rooms and we both use mono block so as a mono block user you be advised you cannot use only 1 REL T/X sub because their RCA input is only a single meaning unless your preamp has a single summed mono sub output you can only send left or right signal. Using high level again you run into the same issue where you can only send left or right signal as you cannot connect a single high level cable to both mono block amps, each mono block can only send signal for a single high level cable. Monoblock users have to use pairs of T/X subs. Now onto the answer, I feel the Tzero is extremely niche and will always recommend a T5x instead of the Tzero. Tzero is almost for people who don't really like bass but want a little more fullness and tone. With that said my suggestion is a pair of T5X. If you can only use a single sub and want a REL the HT 1003 MK2 is awesome and can accpet L&R RCA inputs from your preamp so you can use a single sub. Hope that helps.

Hi Nemo, you are simply the best! Thanks a lot for the very thorough explanation (I was afraid that was the case for using only one sub and you cleared my doubts). Really appreciated. I think I will take your advice about the T/5x and go for two of them. Besides the fact that I need a white color to match the rest of my living room furniture, with one per channel I can connect them using the high level connection which is the best way to go (not only for REL suggestion but also Paul GcGowan from PS Audio made a video about it). L12 is a much larger subwoofer, it will play louder and extend lower while offering up very similar SQ characteristics. The T5X will of course look a lot nicer in the room with it's beautiful painted finish and has excellent SQ but it is an 8" subwoofer. If it's for a music only system either one would be great but the L12 is far more capable overall and If it's for a mixed system the L12 will offer up a lot more of everything for theater duty.

I guess it is mainly about the fact that I don’t have a ton of room. It’s a skinny room but it’s fairly long as well, so I really only have one place to put these which is on either side of my TV console. Mainly, I don’t listen at insane «reference like» volumes, but my main concern was that these things can do movies a little bit of justice. How would you compare these VS a pair of SVS micro 3k’s for movie watching? Thank you for the reply bro!
@NemoPropaganda

@@drakebrady711 if the t5x was designed to be the best sounding tiny sub then the micro was desgined to be the loudest tiny sub so they have very different goals and with that said yes the micro will be considerably louder than a t5x but the t5x would sound better so that's a tough call. The 1003 MK2 splits the difference having SQ closer to the T5x while still oferring more output.

t5x is a very small bro, having dual t5x in a theater will be much better than not having subs of course but they are very small also so it will be more like having bigger speakers with full bass. t5x was not designed to primarily handle the LFE channel in a theater but it's a great start and will do okay at lower volumes. You can add a 1003 or 1205 MK2 for LFE in the future. If movies are more important to you then I suggest you start with the 1003 or 1205 mk2 first, those were designed to handle the LFE channel.
