Top player. His post-contact metres, momentum-stopping hits in defence, incredible ability to jackal for a bloke of his size, defensive organisation, and soft hands made him one of the best 8s of recent times. Great compilation too, thank you 👌

Been watching Duane since 2010 when he played for Stormers. Delighted to see him win his first cap in 2012. Always a leader, setting the example. Could easily have captained the Springboks for many years. Injuries couldn't hold him back, always gave 110% Thank you Duane for service 💪🇿🇦💚

I think it was 2014 when Vermeulen had a superhuman performance against the All Blacks while playing with fractured ribs if I'm not mistaken. It was one of the most dominant displays from a single player in the history of rugby. Obviously age caught up with him in his last few years of playing but it shows how phenomenal he used to be when he could decline and yet still be good enough for international rugby. He finishes as a 2x World Cup winner and goes down as the best Springbok number 8 and arguably the best number 8 of all time. Thank you Thor for your service to SA Rugby. Legend!

i must admit i had my questions surrounding vermeulen starting over wiese in the knockouts given he's lost his attacking bite with age, but that man's defensive ability not only with physicality but in commanding his forwards is absolutely indespensible to this team and i doubt we'd have won again without him (not to mention he still put in some brutal running in that final). hope to see him straight into the coaching box!

Take a bow, what a career this blok has had. 3 world cups, two times winnaar and one bronze medal, man of the match in the last World Cup final. Al ost never had a bad game in the Bok jersey. One of the best 8s of all time. Generational talent.

Gaan rus lekker ou Duane. Jy is sekerlik die beste 8steman wat RSA ooit opgelewer het. Hard soos klip,menigte ouens op hul gat laat sit en blerrie vreesloos. Moes n nagmerrie wees om jou van voor te tackle! Ons sal nog n braaitjie hou maat. Jy groot rol gespeel in die wen van beide world cups as dit nie die grootste was nie. Ek oordryf nie,het ook nr 8 gespeel so ek ken bietjie maar NIKS soos jy nie ou reus. Mag God jou en jou familie seen in jou "aftrede". @@Goisis88 Evan Roos is the top contender for that spot currently bro is a beast but there is also other guys that can grow for that spot for now i say Evan Rops if i recall Elrich Louw can also be om the bench for 8 while Evan takes the field but however Elrich is great flanker.im a bulls fan but for me Evan Roos gonna become the best 8 soon much much soon and for you ?

What separates Vermeulen from Big hitters is that he doesnt just make 1 or 2 big tackles in a game, he damn near makes 20 tackles a game with half of them being momentum stopping hits, His tackle rate is really second to none and on top of that he's a menace at the breakdown too, a devastating Ball carrier that punches holes in the most organized defenses with a very high work rate and an Elite Rugby IQ....Duane is By far is rugby's greatest enforcer

Surely the tackle Duane Vermeulen made on Rob Valentini in this year RC should have made the cut. You know the one where Rob Valentini kind of hands himself off to the floor. That hand off of his would have sent 95% of the population flying, the other 4.9% no where, but the 0.1% which Duane is in made his hand off send him to the floor.
