They had it ALL. Talent, musicality, liveliness and fun. Those were the good old days. They all stood around one microphone and just played. How musicians have complicated it since. The Dubliners brought the listener the very heart of any song or tune... I'm learning the Donegal Reel on banjo right now ;-)

Not musicians, but business. And business only does what entices more money out of our pockets, in the end. If people didn't leave good, simple music by the wayside in droves in favour of a huge stage with lights and smoke and pyrotechnics... we could but them all out of business, if we would all just make music where we are. But thought music flows easy once the channel is worn, such wearing takes years of relentless action. And most would rather open a prepackaged bit of music carefully curated for them by a no doubt trustworthy style influencer... I've had more fun playing tin whistle alone in a field than I've had at any commercial music concert. Hopefully our children can recapture that immediate connection with live music and the love and life that comes with it.

"The Dubliners" certainly recorded "The Donegal" and "The Longford Collector", but here the 2nd tune [ just in case anyone goes looking for it ] is the reel known as "The Boyne Hunt". The type of whistle being played is almost certainly a "Generation", as that would have been the only whistle in the key of "D" available when that film was made.

I'm only 1/6th Irish, mate, but trust me - my son is 4 and he's already got a tin whistle. His brother will be born in less than a month and he'll have his own. Those of us who love and respect our heritage will remember and pass it on.

I love the wtf look ciaran gives barney when he falls off the fretboard at 0.48 ha ha, great playing nonetheless, luke Kelly had taken a year out at this point to go to England for a year to study and learn from ewan mc coll so this is either 1964/65, John sheehan and Bob lynch came in to fill in for luke, when luke came back bob left and John stayed, so even though this isn't quite the classic lineup they still gelled great together, all round great musicians the lot of them

Brain tumor? Possible, but unlikely. Anything with tumors are iffy, as they tend to spread(metastasizing) and come back even if removed, and anything with the brain is MASSIVELY iffy, the margin you have is EXTREMELY slim even with things placed accessibly. Put the two together? You're badly in the shit.

To anyone learning from this video, the second tune is not the Longford Collector. They did record Donegal Reel/Longford Collector back in the 60's but the second tune in the above video is The Boyne Hunt.
