Just a note: The valve adjustment maintenance that needs to be done every 24,000KM can be done by yourself with some small amount of mechanical knowledge. I have seen shops asking between $800 to $1400 CAD depending on dealer or shop for the service.

Canadian Rider wouldn't that void your warranty
@carswithsonduren
@carswithsonduren 7 жыл бұрын
For my bike specifically it is out of warranty. Though no, you do NOT have to go to an authorized Ducati Dealer to get oil changes and work done and you still have your warranty in tact, this is part of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Obviously you need to keep all your receipts and paperwork. My Ducati never had a problem with warranty while doing my own oil changes, as long as you follow the recommended intervals and products.
@carswithsonduren

To add to this, you can very well void your warranty if you go to Joe blow and get a valve maintenance done and your engine blows, and it is deemed your service is the direct cause of the engine blowing

Here's a video of Chad adjusting the 1199 valves, would should be the same as the 899/959, you can determine if it exceeds your skill level. On my 696 I took the day off of work and adjusted the valves and replaced the belts, it wasn't not difficult, but the 899/959 looks to be slightly more difficult.

Good video, not sure why everyone always mentions excessive heat on high performance bikes. I've ridden my friends 1299 and it gets just as hot as my s1000rr. If you get a fast bike, its gonna be hot lol. Other than that, good on you for doing your own maintenance. I try to tell people I ride with that I can help them do their own but some just drop so much money at the dealer. Shame.

Beautiful Bike! Quick question I had is, did you have to put any sort of protective material on it such as 3M or Xpel? Reason I ask is because I heard the red version of the 899/959 does not have clearcoat, meaning it's more prone to scratching/chipping.
@carswithsonduren

Correct it does not have a clearcoat, and after 17,000 KM and no clear bra or xpel paint protection unbelievably I have not got stone chips, maybe 1 small one... remarkable.

Hey Canadianrider, great videos! Subscribed. I have a 959 myself with about 4K kms on it. I usually do my own maintenance on all my bikes, but was a bit apprehensive about servicing a Ducati because of warranty issues and regular computer resets required. Dealerships in my area (west coast) charge about C$500 for an oil/filter change and about C$1500 for valve check service. Your video has given me a bit of confidence to DIY. Couple of questions. The book says oil/filter change every 12000kms or once a year. I do not think I will do more than 5K per year because I mostly ride my adventure bike in long trips. Is an annual service necessary even with low kms? I usually start my bike at least twice a month even during winter. Brake fluid has turned black already and needs changing. Does the brake bleeding require any additional technical stuff like reprogramming ABS settings or similar? Your thoughts please.
@carswithsonduren
@carswithsonduren 7 жыл бұрын
+Harry Laxman Hey Harry thanks for the compliments and welcome to the channel! Yea those prices are insane... Regardless of the KM done for warranty purposes you need to change yearly. This is also because even though you didn't ride much, condensation and other contaminants still remain in the oil that need to be flushed. Also starting your bike in the winter for any reason just puts unnecessary wear on your bike. Properly store your bike like how I did in my winter storage video and never start it. The oil is so thick and cold your engine will be metal on metal and actually will wear your engine down. No bleeding the breaks is actually a fairly simple process like changing your oil very basic tools needed :) Let me know if you got any other questions brother

How is insurance for a 22 year old. I currently own a 2020 KTM Rc390 and looking for a 600cc/super sport as my next bike. I only started riding with a license last week lol. However I’ve never need in any car accidents since I had my permit at 15 and wonder how much is insurance for this bike? I’m moving to japan next year and cost isn’t a issue it’s the price of insurance. Right now I’m paying 25 a month.

You never compared the cost of Ducati maintenance with Japanese maintenance. Also, how much is the 24,000 kilometer service? How much did it cost to have your bike towed? It cost $150 to have the dealer turn off the check engine light? I have a Ducati and a Honda. I had to have my Ducati towed after picking it up from the dealer. Tune ups, valve adjustments and belt replacements cost hundreds of dollars. My Honda dealership charges less than $90 for a full synthetic oil change and filter and that is it. Oil changes until 25,000 miles and then maybe valve adjustments or maybe not depending on how the engine sounds and how the bike is ridden. My Honda has over 150 HP at the rear wheel (177 claimed by Honda) and shaft drive (no chain maintenance). I love my Ducati, but I have endured mechanical problems and have spent an arm and a leg on maintenance. My Honda VFR 1200 is fast and reliable. I like reliable because It's no fun being stuck along the side of the highway late at night.

I´m so damn hesitant... In a few months my time will come and I can drive all bikes... In Germany there are three different types of driver lienses concerning motocycles. At the moment I´m not allowed to get a bike, that´s stronger than 48 hp but soon I will get myself a new bike. Either the 899 Panigale, or the Yamaha R6 RJ15. Yesterday I rode my brothers´ R6 Rj03 and I was really impressed as it started doing wheelies at 60 mp/h. After that we went to the Ducati dealership and I sat on the 899 Panigale and started it up... Maaaaaan, that sound..... So amazing. And tha´s why I don´t know which way to go. Hey brotha, I’m looking at this exact bike In a 2014 with 5k miles. Do you recommend it for a daily as far as summer weather? I also own a 2022 Honda fury abs model. I rode 9k miles on that bike in 10 months because I was a first time rider and loved the feeling the bike gave me. Im looking at a sport bike for potentially the next 20k miles. It’ll be in the mix with my fury. Longevity wise and maintenance would you recommend this as a reliable bike and something I’m gonna love and appreciate till it does reach 20-30k miles and then sell? Thanks in advance

@@carswithsonduren this is basically the reassurance I was looking for. I’ve recently got rid of my 17 Scatpack and 18 mustang Gt and right now I’m venturing into the bike world. As of right now I want a Harley bagger but I do miss that sleek fast feeling. I’m not an adrenaline junkie on a bike by any means because I know my limits, but I do miss that sporty feeling I used to get from my cars. That I’d ride 10k miles a year might be a stretch but if it does give me that feeling I’m looking for I feel like that’s why I’m heavily looking at this bike and considering purchasing it before the week ends if the numbers are affordable

@carswithsonduren

+Nicholas Radoi honestly. It can be done, I don't recommend it. Your going to need to develop your skills on a small bike first. I understand the temptation, but atleast get 6 months under your belt on a cheap thing. Though yes, it can be done and is the most lenient of all the super bikes for beginners as it's smaller and more agile

Nicholas Radoi won't have any effect badly. It's just that your better off getting experience on a 250 or 300 before you get a 899. but you could do it if you really wanted too, it won't be ideal you won't know how to properly lean etc

I love how he mentions that "fluke" but says other than that its been good. Being stuck on the highway and having to get your bike towed over a "fluke" is enough to steer me away. Even though its been two years since that happened, in the motorcycling world I like to assume the worst. So that means even though it hasn't happened since, odds of it happening again as the bike gets older seems more likely than not. I hope it doesn't cause being stuck on the road sucks! I been there before (Got into an accident and had to sit on the side of the road waiting for pick up). That being said your bike is absolutely stunning! I seriously hope that you are not going 7500 miles or a full year before an oil change on that motorcycle. ESPECIALLY if you are running 300v as that is racing oil and doesn't have the detergents, dispersants and other additives that other oils have. It is meant to be dumped after a race. The 7100 formula would be a better choice and is a good synthetic ester for streetbikes. Either way you need to change it often as oil is cheap insurance. Why spend so much money and effort on taking care of such a beautiful bike just to cheap out on the oil changes? Personally, my bike has never seen dirty oil. If that's too rich for your blood then just go back to using Rotella T-6.

24,000km is only 14k miles, that's often and worse than all the Japanese supersports. Ducs are finicky and require a lot of maintenance plus need special tools and need to remove a bunch just to get to something that should be simple. The most impracticle of the supersports.
