@@SeinIshamiado Betterhelp has a lot of problems. One of the biggest is privacy; betterhelp shares its users information with services like facebook, and I don't think I need to go into detail about how that's horrific and scummy. (This also should super be a hippa violation, I don't remember how they were getting around it. I think something in the privacy policy, or 'we're technically not medical' or something like that?) What's more, the therapists in there are underpaid, overworked, and there are some betterhelp policies that encourage bad behavior, because the platform is basically about getting as many people to subscribe as possible. I actually used it briefly before I found out about the privacy thing, and one of the highlights included the therapist forgetting details between sessions and having a text based session during my video one. They also mentioned how many clients they have and it was an insane amount.

My personal pet peeve big sponsor is Raycon. Their audio quality is actually pretty bad and it's easy to find out about that fact with minimal research. There's also a viral YT video by an audio tech guy who thoroughly tested them. It isn't that big of a deal, but this is a kind of product that most viewers are easily able to afford or probably looking to buy anyways, so the potential effect on people is big. The only redeeming fact is that they do offer a refund afaik, but it's still annoying to see a creator harp on about the "superb audio quality".

I feel a bit more distrustful of something because it's sponsored. I had this professor in college who used to say, "If they have to advertise a lot, they must not be very good." And although I don't completely believe that, I also think it's sometimes true. And marketing can be quite expensive, so if a product has a lot of marketing behind it, that is going to drive up the cost which makes me wonder, "If I buy this, how much of the cost is going towards the marketing versus actually making a good product." If I see a product sponsoring a lot of youtubers, I tend to think that even though it's not traditional advertising, it must be adding up. And yes, I say this realizing that companies usually need to do some level of marketing because otherwise people might not buy their product at all, but if a company is particularly spammy about marketing, I tend to trust it less. Maybe I'm a bit less naive than many about marketing since I actually saw one of the youtubers I used to watch have their channel severely damaged by a bad sponsorship. Without getting too deep in the details, they endorsed an actual scam. They had to make an apology video and take down the original video. A good chunk of their viewerbase still believed they only retracted because they got caught and that the youtuber had made the endorsement maliciously. Trust is not easily regained, and their channel never really recovered (in terms of subs, views) after that. So if a youtuber takes a bad sponsership, I know they are taking on a risk. Although I also think viewers are a little more jaded now than when that happened a few years ago and are probably going to ignore a lot of bad sponsorships as long as they don't cross the line into actual scams. I've seen a lot of famous actors in commercials for things I find problematic even though I like their performances. I understand the celebrity is there for a payday and maybe didn't even do any research into the company or product or simply didn't find the product objectionable the way I do. Or they view it as the responsibility of the viewer to think for themselves rather than blindly trusting their word. I just don't take the paid celebrity endorsement seriously. I view sponsorships on KZfaq the same way except the youtuber doesn't enjoy the same level of fame and fortune the celebrity does and may be more desperate for the money. If anything, this makes the youtuber endorsement even more suspect.

It's marketing tactics like this that make me not trust sponsorships at all, even if I come away from the segment interested in the product I'm more likely to look up some reviews online before making a judgement call (there's also the slight problem of 0 dollars in my bank account but that's a different problem I'm working on)

I rarely pay attention to youtube sponsorships. I'm usually not interested and when I am, I search for other reviews as well. I won't buy something because one stranger (that's what creators basically are, strangers whose job it is to entertain you) told me it is good. I might consider it if ten different strangers say it's good. I would be more likely to buy something if the person recommending it was a close friend or a family member.

This reminds me of when Arteza was going out to a ton of creators and there's another non art related sponsor that's going around right now. When Arteza emerged and went crazy on art channels it made me question the company and their products which makes me leery of most products now. I don't fault creators needing money but it does bring up the interesting side of the integrity of what they are willing to put on their channels/outlet for money.

Around 4 - 6 years ago Arteza was sending their products to many art channels. If I am remembering correctly they had paint brushes, watercolor paints in pan form only, acrylic paint tubes, and colored pencils, they didn't offer many products back then. Almost every creator who used them said very similar things - this product is great, its professional quality, wonderful company to work with, etc. It felt very disingenuous and highly scripted. I started questioning it when a video came out where the artwork was horrible and the creator looked highly unimpressed with the products.

hey! i’d like to address this directly, because it’s something i researched myself a while ago as a part of my former day job work as a marketing consultant. i’m sure you meant this warning in good faith, but this is a misconception that has been spread through a lot of fear-mongering propagated by the general public’s misunderstanding of legal jargon. squarespace’s TOS does require you to license your images and website design to them specifically for marketing purposes and exclusively so that they can promote it, but there is a clause that clearly and openly states that you retain full ownership of your site and images. this is a clause that is present on almost all website-builders and social media if you check out their TOS - it may differ slightly from case to case, but the point remains the same: this clause is there so that they can promote their platforms, not claim your content, and it is also something that all users can opt out of.

@NOTDeezy. Жыл бұрын
@@DuchessCelestia Hey! Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention and taking the time to clear this up! In a lot of Template based "make your own website" websites, it often is automatically the case that anything you upload and make on them will transfer direct ownership to the providers. And I am glad that Squarespace is an exception of that! This wasn't me giving you flack in any way or calling you a hypocrite in any way, It's just the irony how it really is true that Capitalism has basically won the monopoly of Content Creation and that this is what creators have to resort to so they can pay rent and eat. And you need that too.

I find a degree of amusement in that I came to this video today, the day after I'd just ordered an XP-Pen tablet... and the primary reason I wound up with that brand was I remembered someone on youtube (I think it was you, I only watch a couple of art channels and vaguely remember a mention of pink) having something going with them. Long story short, I've found myself in the position of needing a second screen tablet in a hurry, and didn't want to fork for another Wacom as it will be being left in an environment that is unfriendly to electronics. The mental process basically went "I need a tablet > Celestia (if it wasn't you, apologies) did something with XP-Pen, I'll check them out > they have what I want > the reviews on it aren't raising any insurmountable issues > cool, I'll have that". Which is a long way of saying that, even if the initial endorsement isn't enough to get people to go check something out, that association sits around in your head until it becomes relevant. Either way, enjoying the vids as I work my way through them. Keep it up.

I won't blame smaller creators or mid level creators for needing money or sometimes taking up those deals. I still think they should avoid them when they can, but people gotta eat. But big creators with large followings and plenty of revenue? I feel like they can take a bit more blame

Maybe I'm just a jaded old cynic, but the premise of this video to me is dripping with naivety. The moment that a sponsored segment in a youtube video comes on, I skip it, and part of that is the belief that I'm being shown an advert with the face of the youtuber in question being used more like a puppet than an actual honest discussion of the product that they're about to try and sell me. I don't believe youtubers when they say that they use a product regularly in a sponsored segment, I don't even believe them when they say that they've vetted the product most of the time.

in most respects I consider myself a discerning shopper but... when you trust someone's advice, it can make you trust their endorsement of a product/service. I've made a couple purchases blindly based on sponsored content on youtube... sigh

I love how this video shows both the viewers and creators sides on sponsorships. If creators didn’t need to pay rent and need money to eat, then they wouldn’t be picking up so many sketchy sponsorships. Viewers should be given honesty on the products their shown, or at least judge what they see. I think the best thing that could be the answer to these two problems is creators sponsoring something that they’d have used before or would want to outside of a sponsorship.

Having a sponsor is probably a thing only valid for the talking-tuber type 😅 It's good that you know your boundaries, having an unreliable sponsor can lead to eventual harm of reputation... Because you connect your name with it. Still, there are enough shameless youtubers that their viewership won't budge no matter what they do. But, it's still a business calculation and risk. For me, my mind switches to off mode when sponsorships comes in youtubers I watch... I am automatically not interested. I know it's needed to keep the channels I watch alive, so, with that in mind, I don't overthink it.

Hello! This is my first video of yours that I’ve watched! I’d like to give a little feedback if that’s okay. The video itself is great! But the thing that bothers me a little is that I don’t know what to focus on when I’m watching this, the speed paint, or your character moving.

Honestly? I find any sponsorship that KZfaqrs keep promoting, to be annoying Like, I'm sure SkillShare and/or SquareSpace are good products (SS is probably a lot better than Weebly). But because KZfaqrs keep promoting them, it makes me want to use them less and less

i think that if multiple youtubers, preferably both on the bigger and smaller sides, endorse a product, its definitely worth a good like 25% trust, and if something doesnt look too sketchy, even if its only promoted on a few channels or only small/only big channels, i’d probably look into the sponsor and see if its sketchy or not, but telling youtubers to lie and mislead their audience is something i feel both viewers and creators need to look out for, to stop yourself being misled on the viewer end and to make sure you’re not promoting falsely advertised things by accident on the creator end. Still, humans can make mistakes and if the sponsors who do this kinda stuff didnt anymore, that’d be ideal, because i dont think every youtuber and viewer can spare possible hours of their life to look into sponsors and see if the company is shady

Sorry for not being relevant to the topic, but I've recently discovered your channel and I'm in the process of watching all of your videos because of how good they are. Though at this point I just need to ask: could you please switch background music? Listening to the same song over and over honestly became distracting, in the sense that my focus shifts from the video's topic to me going "Oh the song started looping again" or "Oh this part of the song is coming up now". I noticed your effort in lowering its volume in recent videos but I don't think it's quite enough. I get that having to pick and choose different songs for every video you make is another problem to add to the pile, but I just wanted to bring it to your attention at least. Keep doing the good work!

Only 600 hundred? I still say you're selling yourself pretty short. Because someone merely 4 times your size were given the option of being payed 4000 USD, for being sponsored by "Raid Shadow Legends" so, just imagine how much something like "Jontron" was given by being sponsored by them? That money in question I say is tempting for me. Which was the 4000 I stated beforehand. So personally it's easier to say no to a very scummy business that tempts you with 600 to lie about the business they do. Than being payed 4000 to play a game for about two weeks, say it's good, even though it's a Gacha game and most people knows how shit those are. But least most people will only play on it until they get bored of it.

Since your world view is very different from mine I do not trust you very much. I trust that your a good person at heart but I dont think youre so prideful to turn down a massive amount of money so only you yourself know that youve never lied. And I like your content anyway. Honestly its so weird, why do all girls I have real or parasocial relationships with are so... untraditional when I myself am very traditional.

You got hit in your blind spot. It happens to the best of us. And while hindsight is a beautiful thing, whoever first coined that needs to be locked in a room with their biggest animal phobia. We regardless of our history, or religious views, all want to believe in something and that something may be a person. So when they do something scummy, well, that kills it for you. They may have been the reason you got into a field of work, or an art style, or have a religious view, a show and so much more. Its like finding out Elen DeGeneres is actually a rip-roaring jerk, or why I can't listen to Lost Prophets in good faith, or this or that religion you follow did some horrible thing to kill your faith. And if you have any issues like My Autism or Duchess' Agoraphobia, knowing when to and not to is very much a learn on the job issue.

Man… it’s hard because I want to pretend like I would never advertise a product I didn’t like, (although I’m not even a content creator-) but- money really dose make the world go round. I’m not even technically paying bills yet (though I will be soon) but just- 20,000 dollars. I imagine that being dangled right in front of me.. and I know I’d take the money and do it because well… I have my own stuff to pay for. I may not pay bills yet but I’m learning to drive and have a car that needs upkeep, I try to pay for all my own art supplies, and I want to save up for an apartment or something so I can get some real independents since my emotional well-being just isn’t the best while living with my family. It sucks, well and truly but yeah, I can say with certainty that when faced with the prospect- I would take the money. It really dose put this type of situation in perspective for me, I already knew the world was not black and white, I mean how could I not? But it’s always difficult to remember that I’m not a paragon, that I don’t have to be because I’m only human, but that there ARE things that can make me compromise on my morals. I *can* be bribed and knowing that stings. but it’s how or world is. Like the pinned comment says: capitalism was the real villain all along.

I never got a sponsor before, it may be because I was a relatively small youtuber (I am talking, I had 5k subs when I stopped posting), and because of my age (I'm underage) but I usually look at sponsorships as a "Imma skip" moment. VPN's, video games, software or even art supply's can be good, but in many cases they either need a strong pc/laptop to operate on, or are just purely shitty. One example of a youtuber I can say honestly to god you can trust is Love2drawmanga, she is really honest with her rewievs, in one video (That she wasn't even sponsored for) she mentioned a company sending her quite bad art supplies (I believe they were markers), the company was nice and they just wanted her opinion on the product, she ended up not making a video using the product, but she did mention it. I've seen many people recommend programs or even electronics that honest to god, you don't hear of them outside of youtube or social media. I use CSP, why? Because I like the program and it is relatively simple to use, I use lenovo laptops- why? My uncle who works with tech for a living, heck the entire company he works for uses Lenovo products, he had recommended it to me 5 years ago when I was looking for a laptop, it works well and is still running smoothly. I use my money on stuff people I trust will recommend, heck, before I got CSP I used paint tool SAI and didn't switch until I tested out the program. What I am trying to say, is testing out the product (if possible) before getting it is essential. You don't need to test out most video games because they are free, so downloading them and then deleting them if you don't like them is normal. But for services that are monthly payment or are generally a lot of money need to be tested before actually being used. I personally wouldn't recommend buying a program if it doesn't have a free trial, at least a 7-day one that gives you premium or just general features they are mainly trying to sell you for a time period, if they can't even give you a trial, it's not worth it.

i've seen waaay too many large YTers promoting sketchy sponsors in the WORST ways, thank you for speaking up!! it's one thing if they're a small channel that needs the $, i'm an adult who grew up poor - so yeah, i get it, but i'm talking abt channels who have hundreds upon thousands of subscribers and an abundance of sponsors, aka they can choose what to sponsor w/o sacrificing a good life. it's gotten to the point where i've stopped watching several creators due to it being abundantly clear that they don't care about what their influence sells people - or whether it's even appropriate to promote sponsors on certain types of content. i had to stop watching many true crime & horror creators because they'd use stories of crimes that occurred over the internet as scare tactics to push VPN sponsors. and don't even get me started on ppl claiming to understand/support mental health issues and BEING SPONSORED BY BETTERHELP. oh, and all of the youtubers trying to sell you services that claim to lower your carbon footprint when the reality is 99.99% of their viewers' and their lifestyles aren't even close to being the reason our earth is dying.
