One of my favorite references in this episode wasn’t even a Disney reference. It was during the news broadcasts when they got Tom Kenny to do his PowerPuff Girls narrator voice to say, “And the day is saved once again thanks to Gizmo Duck!”

I was surprised how quick Huey noticed that Fenton and Gandra Dee liked each other. From that point on he was like "I SHIP IT!!!" The entire time.

I was surprised and impressed at how quick Fenton was on the uptake when meeting Gandra. He was kind of awkward, but it's still refreshing to actually see a cartoon character that understands how to read social cues and actively flirt.

normally Im not a fan of retconning characters' religion/race/gender/etc etc. But for Fenton and Gandra the changes are just amazing. I love Fenton having a hispanic (mexican?) heritage of sorts, and I am in love (not literally) with how they COMPLETELY changed Gandra. When I saw her name I had to think back to who the hell that was in the original... ok, it was the no-personality sexbomb girlfriend of Fenton that I forgot existed. But this Gandra? She's got spunk. personality. brains. And the chemistry between these two characters actually works so well. As far as side-characters go, I hope she and Fenton get more future episodes together.

This new Ducktales has made Fenton my favorite character, next to Scrooge.

I'd like to give extra kudos to Jameela Jamil in voicing Gandra Dee. Her performance was so different from her clipped Oxford on the Good Place I didn't recognize throughout the episode.

So that’s how Gandra was a scientist, I didn’t know about the robot engineering degree. I was thinking that new Gandra would be whatever the G-Rated Disney version of a mirajuana dispenser or New Age Hippie Scientist. But this Gandra could grow on me.

Not to mention... Gandra and Fenton are all roughly the age of Mark Beaks. I'm noticing a theme where 20 something's are drawn to Mark Beaks. The old won't have him, the young learn to ignore him but his own generation cannot turn away.

The villain in the first minute looks like doofenshmirtz and I love it

I'm glad SOMEONE noticed the Doofensmirtz homage. The hair totally gives it away, but he has a sarcastic side to him and likes to talk with Gizmoduck during the fight. That's very similar to Heinz, and I'm always happy when that show is referenced. Maybe he was making it rain so the Soccer game in Duckburg wouldn't interrupt his Telenovela?

I cannot believe they spilled a jar of Omnisolve and there were no consequences. It is nice to them give a nod to it, but my god as a comic fan the jar breaking and them not acknowledging it is a big no no. That is a end of the world caliber moment in comic canon.

I don't think Gandra Dee became Scrooge's receptionist in the original 'DuckTales', did she? I don't recall a scene where Scrooge hires her. (She use to work at the bean factory with Fenton.) The closest thing to a receptionist working for Scrooge was Mrs. Featherby. (or maybe she was his secretary. Feel free to correct me on that.) Anyway, they really did a good job developing Fenton from a simple, needy character, to a more relatable, and more consistent both in, and out of costume. Gandra Dee, on the other hand is a completely different beast, but in a good way. Originally, she was just a damsel in distress, but here, she's the kind of girl who's more organized than Fenton, and could help him get his on life on track since he's never had any luck in love in the past.

Can't wait for your take on "The Duck Knight Returns!" I personally thought it was aces... especially that ending. "...They want Grim And Gritty, eh? HAPPY TO PLAY THE PART!" *laughs maniacally*

This is probably my favorite Gizmoduck episode so far. I just really, really like seeing Fenton bumble his way through stuff like this. And Huey freakouts are always hilarious. Can't wait until next episode! :)

I knew I recognized the name 'Gandra Dee,' but I couldn't place it from the original series. Thank you so much for digging up that picture of the original Gandra! I remember her now. I am so glad that they brought her into the new show. She is almost completely unrecognizable from the original series, as I think the original version was based on Loni Anderson's character from WKRP Cincinnati. Great catch about the engineering background on both!

I think one of the cutest scenes in this episode is when Webby puts on the Gizmo duck helmet. I think she looks adorable. I also like how Fenton shows his true science genius . Before we only see him as a bumbling intern. This episode really shows how smart he truly is. It also breaks the standard troupe that when a guy falls in love with a girl with bad motives he ignores his friends when they tell him how bad she is. Fenton recognizes his friends are te.ling the truth about Gandra and believes them over her.

I feel like their relationship was a bit forced. I understand the purpose Gandra Dee, support for Fenton but jeez THIS FELT SO FORCED

Ducktales is one of those shows that makes it hard to figure out who my favorite character is. There are so many great and interesting characters that I just can't help but love. Heck, even in season 2 I'm still finding characters I like. 2 recent ones are D'jinn and Drake who are both absolutely precious.

Can we appreciate Huey being gizmo duck's Oracle

5:50 Woah did Beaks take his level of villainry to the extreme in this episode by gaining his own alter ego known as Mega Beaks. Sometime in the series it would be nice to learn about Beaks’ backstory, even with what influenced him to become a villain after the episode with Falcon Graves, it would indeed be nice if he returned in a future episode to put an end to whatever evil plot Beaks might end up having next. Perhaps Gyro could take action as well one of these days, taking on an alter ego called Mega Gyro.

I think the dance combat was supposed to be a reference to the start of Guardians of the Galaxy, though I didn't get it straight away.

I kinda guessed Gandra was working for beaks when I saw her headphones.

While watching this review it hit me why I love Fenton so much, he's basically Peter Parker. A scientist who's passionate about his projects, but works out of a more successful scientist's lab. Who constantly struggles with personal life drama even when out superheroing.

For me, one of the best things in the episode, besides all that you said, is Fenton and Huey's interaction, he still admiring Gizmoduck even when he know who he is, and he called Fenton his friend, i enjoy to see their interactions, i've been waiting for that moments between them since "Who Is Gizmoduck?", and that was pretty good for me.

Absolutely loved hearing this, this episode was so enjoyable to watch leading into the one I had been waiting for for a very long time & hearing your review on this reminded me of how excited this episode got me. Now, I grew up on the Ducktales reruns that played on Disney Channel, I missed the original series airing but I'm just old enough to had caught the reruns & watch them when they moved onto Toon Disney in the late 90's so yes, it was a solid part of my childhood but I am sad that I was so young when I watched it & it was the reruns, I didn't get to experience the show when it was new. I did buy the DVDs as they were being released because Ducktales is my favorite show from my younger childhood years so after the first volume came out, I kept an eye out on the releases for the second & third volumes. I will admit to rewatching the rest of the series online in 2010 since I got impatient with their DVD releases & to this day, I do not think they released anymore episodes onto DVD. What I got to notice watching it in this way versus catching the reruns whenever they came on TV was that since Gizmoduck was introduced so late into the series, all of the Gizmoduck episodes were all smashed in there at the end. Seriously if they ever get around to releasing volume 4, that whole DVD set should be Gizmoduck themed. I love that with the reboot, they know what they're working with so the show can be well paced & they can tell stories the original couldn't, this episode has been fantastic, excellent timing, getting us hyped up for the next episode & what we can see in the future! Something I had been craving is some Fenton interacting with Drake since that only happened in ONE episode of Darkwing Duck, the two play off each other better than DW & Giz do I feel & I hope with what was established in the Duck Knight Returns that we can get a little Drake & Fenton someday in the future. Now, I realize this is spoiler territory so this is the warning right now, I might say something but I'm going to try to not say too much. The new Drake Mallard is different from the old, the new Fenton is also different so obviously the way the two would interact with each other will be different. Hey, as long as there's some pistachio prune ice cream involved, everything will be perfect. I do joke there but I do hope they throw it in there as a little nod towards Tiff of the Titans. The new Drake is so interesting but it seems he has similar feelings towards Giz that the original had. I wanna see some secret identity shuffling between these two where the two are unaware of each other's identities, that'd be fun but way way down the line in the future. Now, I do say that I grew up on Ducktales reruns which makes me happy that in the reboot, they throw in stuff for younger audiences. I loved the Dr. Doofenshmirtz-like villain in this episode, nice touch. I am too old for P&F, I was around 16 when it first aired, if you want to be specific, I was a month away from turning 16 when they aired Rollercoaster in August 2007 so yeah, I was too old for the show but I was stuck in a hotel room with my mom & younger sister who was watching Disney Channel when it aired so I fell in love with Phineas & Ferb & followed the series closely up to the day it ended & wish to follow Milo Murphy's Law just as closely but work & other stupid adult stuff caused me to lag behind in that series & I have to play catch up. Putting in stuff like a P&F reference is a nice touch, a nod towards the audience who are too young for all the Disney Afternoon references but still enjoy Disney & watch this series. Also, this is way far back, like beginning of the series far back, but I still can't get over the fact that Toontown is indeed canon in this universe since Gyro did create the cogs. That's something that would be for my generation since I was 11 when I first played Toontown & since I knew Ducktales essentially my whole life, I loved the little clip they played during the download of the game where Scrooge triggered the giant robot made by Gyro that made the cogs so technically, Scrooge is the cause of the cogs' existence in the original Toontown game but Gyro did invent the stuff that caused them to be made, it's kind of a team effort there. Since TT came out many years after Ducktales had ended, the original series obviously didn't do anything with that, has me excited to see what the reboot can do, if anything at all. If they actually try to incorporate anything beyond the easter egg, then Disney might jump onto Toontown Rewritten for legal stuff so they could use it & I don't want to see that happen. Between that old easter egg & the Doofenshmirtz knockoff villain in this episode, it definitely shows that they do show love towards Disney fans of all ages & it warms my heart. Mark Beaks is a villain that seems to be more for today's generation of kids, the kids I work with are the sort to latch onto a villain like that, I know not all kids would find him appealing but the larger majority would from what I've seen. It's real cool how they can reach across generations, last summer at work, the kids actually asked to watch the Ducktales reboot so we put it on for them. Having a room full of children singing the Ducktales theme was enough to cause me to cry a little since I was so happy, something that I loved when I was a kid can still be enjoyed today. Sorry, went totally off there but I become more rambly when I comment at night when I should be in bed.

But.. she's in F.O.W.L.. she's more then likely using him. Especially now since she knows his identity. He is such a lovable character. Though I find Drake's dislike of him still hilarious. Especially since he was so happy to just greet him at the table.

For having never seen the original Fenton I loved this version of him. He is genuinely charming and funny, and I want to see how he and Gandra Dee continue to develop.

Besides Fenton sharing his passion for science with Gandra, my favorite part of the episode was Mark Beaks' master plan. Seeing Mega Beaks breakdown after destroying his own phone was especially hilarious. Can't wait to hear you talk about a certain other Disney superhero duck in the review. But until then, like you always say, 'take it easy.'

What I find interesting about the "throwaway" line in the original is that it hints that there were story ideas for her education to contribute to the series. Those ideas never made it to implementation, but they would have affected how later stories and episodes were developed, because they were still part of her character creation and backstory

The new take on Gandra Dee kinda reminds me of “Not Ping” from Sleeping Dogs...

I love Gandra and Fenton's love story, they have such interesting chemistry.

First of all, Dr. Atmoz Fear is CLEARLY meant to be a duck version of Dr. Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb, right? He doesn't sound exactly like him, but the hair and the eyes, it's just, c'mon. Second, maybe it's just me, but I feel like the reboot version of Gyro Gearloose is becoming progressively nicer as the series goes on. Season 1 had him as a massive prick who constantly talked down to everyone; even when he went to save Scrooge and was disappointed to see Scrooge only views him as a work associate, that was following a moment where he promised to give his "respect" to whoever deals the most damage to the shadows while the other one is fired. In season 2, however, even though he still has a high opinion of himself, there's a lot less of his condescending remarks or him just being a complete asshole. I get the feeling Frank Angones realized he went too far with Gyro's negative traits (to the point where people not only thought he was going to be a villain, but figured it was only a matter of time until he turns, which was not Frank's intent at all, or at least everyone underestimated how loyal he was to Scrooge), and tried to highlight his more positive traits in this season, while having him lighten up more overall. The final scene where he smiles approvingly at Fenton after viewing him as an idiot or a pest before kind of shows how he's slowly softening up, and I can only hope he gets better from here. Third, I still remember when you said Mark Beaks isn't quite a villain; well, if he's not a villain by now, I don't know what will make him one. This episode also showcases how danger Mark Beaks can be; even before he hulks out, he easily dispatches the Money Bin's security system, meaning if he ever actually wanted something significant out of Scrooge, he could easily get it. It's amazing how Mark Beaks went from being kind of a joke to someone we should legitimately watch out for, which only makes him a more appealing character to me. Lastly, I guess I should mention Gandra Dee, but really, what's there to talk about? It's clear they don't want to make Gandra the one-note love interest she was in the original DuckTales, but it remains to be scene if that will turn out to be the case, since you can't really judge her from just one episode. She IS a completely different character, but will all of her interactions and personality completely revolve around Fenton and what he does? We'll just have to wait and see.
