FYI: I used to work in cosmetic manufacturing. Basically regular mascara is water based and waterproof is oil based. The oil based mascara has a better emulsion and will stick together better.

So peep this: what makes waterproof mascara waterproof, is a lack of (or much smaller amount of) water in the formula. Regular mascara is "wetter" and takes longer to dry down *because* it has a higher quantity of water in the formula... often its the first ingredient. Just like adding water to your freshly curled hair will immediately kill the curl, adding water (or humidity) to your freshly curled lashes straightens them. The water in waterproof formulas is replaced with waxes, esters, and other non-water soluble ingredients which keep it from dissolving in water, but also seals water away from your curled lashes.

That is the exact reason why I’ve only ever used waterproof mascara. My first mascara was waterproof because my mom handed down the trade secret to keeping our straight lashes super curled all day long. I admit I sometimes will use a regular mascara just because it’s so easy to take off & I don’t even bother curling my lashes because they’ll fall down anyhow. But waterproof mascara is the game changer for people with straight lashes!

thank you! This mascara is now on my wish list. That is awesome. I've noticed that as I've gotten older (I'll be 47 this year) that while my lashes were super long and thick in my 20's and 30's, I notice them less now. I've taken to curling them which I never did when I was younger and I use a water proof mascara now, but they still don't hold the curly like this Clio one. I can't wait to try it.

You should try a Korean product called the "Dr Mascara Fixer" by the brand Etude House. It's basically a waterproof mascara primer and if you use an eyelash curler first then apply it, it holds the curl insanely well and you can use ANY mascara on top of it (even non-waterproof) and the curl will stay all day!!

I have such a love-hate relationship with that stuff. It really keeps your lashes curled ALL day (and even through a shower for me) but it makes my lashes feel so crunchy and dry. It's like glue for your eyelashes. I only use it when I seriously need them to stay curled. 100% does what it says it will though

I LOVE these mascaras, thank you for featuring them! I only ever use waterproof, and Kill Lash lasts until I scrub it off with an oil cleanse. The rose brown is so pretty, and the black is a great workhorse; they've completely replaced other brands for me. Like you I have fine, really light brown lashes that are basically invisible unless I dress them up, and this mascara formula just does it all for me.

I remember in high school I used to carry around a lash curler and re-curl my lashes in the bathroom between classes😂 Was so stoked when I found out about waterproof mascara holding a curl all day, it was a game changer for my straight lashes. It is annoying to get off at the end of the day especially if you like a lot of mascara like I do, but I’m used to my ritual of cleansing balm removal at night

@@my4cents different waterproof mascaras remove differently. I have used waterproof mascara’s for years, and I rotate between usually 4 to 5 different ones at a time. I use baby oil to take off my eye make up and some come off in 10-15 seconds, the most stubborn ones take maybe 30-60 seconds.

My eyelashes and basically just overall hair growth everywhere is just like u and although I'd love to be the waterproof mascara gal, I just can't deal with the dry texture that it has, it always clumps up my lashes and makes them look crepe-y and as if they're dry and brittle and I don't dig that look...so waterproof mascara works for me because ppl can't tell if I'm wearing any mascara or its just my natural lashes

I’ve been doing this for 20 years lol 😂 always relied on the max factor waterproof mascara but it’s brush isn’t great so hoping to give this one a go! My top tip is to use castor oil or Vaseline on lashes at night to keep lashes lush as waterproof mascara can be drying and cause them to break. Oh and use a lash serum for extra help ❤️

You’re the only person I’ve come across that “gets” this about waterproof mascara! Thank you for demonstrating it. 🙂 I have very straight lashes, and regular mascaras never hold the curl for me, even when I’ve recurled my lashes with the mascara on. (Yes, I know you’re not “supposed” to curl your lashes with mascara on, but it’s the only way I can get the kind of curl I want. I am always very careful when I do it.To release the coated lashes, I open the curler, then gently press the curler back toward my upper lid and slowly close my eye). Btw, you have lovely, long lashes!

Great video. I really like Roller Lash for a non-waterproof mascara, so I really appreciate this comparison. I'll have to try Clio now. My ride or die in waterproof mascara was always Lash Stiletto. Just recently tried the waterproof Lash Paradise and hated it; it stayed on but got clumpy and weird.

You are spot on about waterproof mascara! I have used Benefit, lancome Msr , and maybelline total temptation. I have the most stubborn, short straight, Asian lashes! I need to heat my curler every time and crimp very hard to maintain curl. A dryer waterproof mascara helps maintain curl, but it still goes a bit limp as the day goes by. I have yet to find my HG brand☹️ . I will definitely try Clio!!!

I never knew this about waterproof mascara! I also have fine, light color lashes. I "tap" the ends of my lashes with the brush as the first coat, let it dry for maybe 30 seconds, then do 2 coats from the roots. So the ends really get 3 coats to make them more noticeable. I've worn Maybelline Colossal for years.

I have an order with Amazon after seeing your “we should all being wearing 2 types of mascara” When I was in my 55TH year I lost my fabulous long naturally curly lashes it was my sad welcome to aging it was a WTF moment. I stopped using mascara at all because my new short straight thin lashes I bought a $65.00 mascara that was made for women in their 50’s, 60’s and onward. Well that mascara sucks it clumped all of my lashes into 4 or5 clumps an d it had a shitty wand! And then there be light I saw the above mentioned video. I have always used waterproof mascara it doesn’t flake like most mascara does. I will keep you updated when my Clio mascara arrives. Thanks for all of your hard work I luv your videos!

Been using waterproof mascara all my adult life for the exact same reason. Maybelline has best cheap ones, but I love Clinique and Lancome too. My favourite ones come with small rubber wand. I use Shiseido curlers and remove wit Clinique Take the day off.

Yes to waterproof mascara! I decided to try Clinique's high impact waterproof mascara. (I think Clinique had a sale, so I stocked up on their naturally glossy one and added the waterproof one.) What a difference! I wear glasses every day and it makes such a difference to wear waterproof mascara. The lashes are more defined, stay curled longer and has serious staying power. I'm excited to try the CLIO mascara now.

I totally get the lash issue you have: I'm the same! I've only ever been able to use waterproof mascaras as they're the only ones that keep my lashes curled. The L'Oreal Telescopic is great. It works better than most premium brands and the wand is small and precise. To remove it use coconut oil. Been using coconut oil to remove my entire face at night for years now and it's cheap and the most effective.

I always wear waterproof mascara for the same reasons as you. I was using Tarte’s, but I think something in the formula changed because I’m literally watching my lashes fall every time I apply it. I’m order the Clio.

Yes! Only waterproof mascara for me! I've been loving Wayne Goss's, I think I'll try Clio's next. I use Banila Co's cleansing balm 👍

Thanks for this amazing comparison... I have been using the Benefit Roller Lash... it's better than most... just ordered the Kill Lash... can't wait to try this out!

I totally feel your struggle. My sad straight lashes just sag with regular mascara alone. Sometimes I start with a waterproof to keep the curl then layer a regular mascara that adds the effect I like. Otherwise waterproof is my go to on the daily.

Thanks, now I gotta run to the store to get them 🏃 Can you do a comparison video of all 3 mascaras? I can't find a good video comparing all 3 of them, even in Korean!
