Given that the fire station was, inevitably (as is sometimes the case throughout the series) in Quebec, the sign over the fire station should have included the French such therefor, i.e., "caserne de pompiers," in deference to French being the lingua franca of La Belle Province. And best rejoindered with some choice CBC bumper, followed by an equally choice signoff announcement from some station of the Canadian Broadcorping Castration, including a full listing of the repeater network for that particular station.

The censorship of this episode by the U.S. Gov. is odd. According to the "Frostbite Falls Field Guide" by Keith Scott, After the episode aired in 1961, it was pulled by the U.S. Government, who accused Jay Ward of mocking the Forest Service. The cartoon was never allowed to be rerun on network TV. How the gov got away with it, I don't know. It was set in Canada, the bear's name was Stokey, and Stokey was hypnotized by Snidely Whiplash into setting fires. It's not as if the writers of the cartoon didn't poke fun at a lot of government and business institutions: Congress, the military,corporate boards, etc. In my opinion this cartoon series was very innovative and hilarious.

According to Keith Scott's "The Moose That Roared", the definitive history of Jay Ward Productions, not only was this episode pulled, but every copy of it, including the original prints, were destroyed. Obviously this isn't true. I'm glad to see this episode has survived. I thought I'd never get a chance to see it!
@masterskrain7 жыл бұрын
According to "The Art of Jay Ward", Ward and Scott agreed to not offer this episode for reruns, but they didn't destroy the original film, as the Forest Service had requested, so that's how it survived to make it onto the DVD re;lease.

One episode had a gag about the "Kirwood Derby," a strange hat that, when worn, turned the wearer into an idiot. However, because Bullwinkle already was an idiot, the hat turned him into a genius. The gag was a spoonerism on actor Durwood Kirby, who threatened to sue. This was a bad idea, because The Bullwinkle Show shamelessly accepted any publicity it could get. When Kirby called Jay Ward, threatening a lawsuit, Ward said, "Sure! We'll PAY you to sue us!" Kirby gave up.
