Walt Disney was furious when he saw this cartoon and he wanted to sue Jay Ward. It took a while for his lawyers to convince him that that was a bad idea.

Sure he was. That film was groundbreaking. First full length animation film. Pretty impressive. And Walt was a serious guy when it came to his characters. Sure he created and originally voiced Mickey, but his real love was animating those feature-length films in the late 30s and 40s. I love the slap De Santis got from Disney a couple days ago. I watched Rocky and Bullwinkle as a kid and thought these were hilarious! But I can see why Walt Disney didn't. Not much of a sense of parody.

What should have happened on The Disney Version Of Sleeping Beauty is when that Prince Phillip was going to kiss Princess Aurora, but then that Prince Phillip decided to let Princess Aurora sleep forever, it's because that Prince Phillip decided to make Sleeping Beauty Land with Sleeping Beauty Comics, Sleeping Beauty Hats and Sleeping Beauty Bubblegums with people having fun on Moat Land by swimming on the moat and looking at the moat, people having fun on Entrance Hall Land by walking, touching the knight's armor and looking at the entrance hall and the knight's armor, people having fun on Stair Land by walking, running, sprinting and rolling down on the stairs and looking at the stairs and people having fun on Princess Aurora by touching Princess Aurora and looking at Princess Aurora which would how The Disney Version Of Sleeping Beauty would end.

Classic. I grew up watching reruns of this in the early 90s. I never got that this was mocking Disney until now. I always thought the joke was just how the story always takes a sharp turn to be something different. And the whole thing wasn't dependent on topical humor of the time, so it had a much longer staying power. Like how Looney Toons can seem horribly dated because its humor was based on Hollywood and current events from the 40s.
