I have always played with allowing people to try out pieces. That just seems more relaxed and friendly.

The basic analysis in Patchwork is to say, "How many buttons do I score per space moved forward?" So, on the very first move, Bri should have taken the cross-shaped piece that with an average of 5.5 buttons per space moved rather than 4 b/s for the one she chose. Not to mention she would have still had 4 buttons instead of one which would have allowed her to a piece on the next move rather than to pass which is a move that only nets 1b/s. Viewed in that light, there were lots of sub-optimal moves in this game, but it looked like you were having fun, so it's all good.

I played this once with my wife and it did not go well but that was a great video which has convinced me to try again. Not sure if I had all the rules 100%. Loving the channel.

Aren't you supposed to to receive button income as soon as you reach the time space touching the buttons? You guys are waiting until you pass that button space.

After checking the rules youre totally correct. That might change a few things next time we play.

Just to clarify. When you land on or move past the space on the OTHER side of the button, you get income: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1257277/special-patch-button-income-spaces

It looks like you were playing correctly to me. The English rules were fixed to say "Some spaces of the time board are marked. Whenever you move past one of those spaces, resolve the corresponding event...". As Emil Juul Jacobsen pointed out in the link, the original English rules were incorrectly based on an old design for the time board.
