Walter cried for Sue. He didn’t even cry at his wife’s funeral.

Acted it, Directed it and sang it at the end. Clint is a legend, he's a gem.

The white boy that was walking down the street with Sue when they were harassed, that's Scott Eastwood, Clint's real life son who's in a lot of movies now these days. His other son wrote and played the music at the very end that Clint is singing in. I always thought it was really cool how he tries to get his kids involved in his movies in one way or another. Also, one of the most underappreciated movies out there. So much heart behind it. That ending with the kid driving with the dog always brings a tear to my eye.

The little girl even called him "toad" when talking about the wasp nest. 😂😂

I watched this with my teenage daughter recently. I wanted to teach her an important life lesson. These days especially, most people, especially younger people, would immediately write Walter off as a racist old prick. If not for the sister, and her decision to welcome him despite his raw demeanor, he would have died alone and miserably. But her kindness and acceptance helped him grow and change for the better. Not to get overly sappy, but we could all learn a little bit from her in our current times.

Toad's family was Walter's real family imo. They treated him way better of a human being than his own family did.

Grumpy and Toad, quite a friendship.

Walt seems to like it when people stand up for themselves. Kids, priest, barber, construction manager, etc. He gives respect to those who earn it.

It was never even hinted at, but I think that Sue reminded Walt of his wife and that’s why he got along with her so well

The Good, Bad, and the Ugly is also one of Clint Eastwood’s greatest

Love this film! The neighbors treated him better than his own family did.

The white boy who was walking with the Asian girl is portrayed by Clint Eastwood's son, Scott Eastwood. The ONLY movie that Clint has allowed Scott to participate in and he was auditioned like any other actor. Clint will literally call a director to tell him that Scott isn't right for a part, even after he nailed it. Tough love.

We need more movies like Gran Torino, it brought together generations of people and races of people and they were judgmental of the context of their character, not how they looked or what made them special. It’s basic human interactions between people of different cultures and generations, great movie. Gangs suck too, they usually do bully young kids into joining them and they make life hell for the elderly that unfortunately have the bad luck of growing old in a neighborhood that changed for the worst where gangs with disrespectful members of all ages men or women now dwell all over all hours of the day.

I'm glad you're all reacting to Gran Torino. It's noteworthy as Hollywood's first major feature film with legendary Clint Eastwood starring alongside Hmong people and actors. When the movie was released, I took my parents, aunt, and uncle to see it, and they all loved it. My mom especially hoped Eastwood would go gun-blazing on the gangsters, lol.

Clint's 'Unforgiven' is a must. Superb gritty western.

When Clint sings at the end. It gives me a little tear in the eye:

I cry everytime I watch this, so good. Clint Eastwood is the only person who portrays a geriatric bad ass that you could actually believe.

There is so much symbolism in this film. My favorite is the end of the film when Walt chooses self-sacrifice over violence. Even the way he lies on the floor, like the Jesus figure on a crucifix

You never fail when it comes to Clint Eastwood films

1. Acting that way @ your grandmothers funeral/allowing your kids to act that way at your mother's funeral is beyond insane. 2. There is no way in hell Walt doesn't have any jumper cables lol

Walt was one of the most honest men you'd ever see.

The final scene where the kid is driving the Torino, he’s driving along Lake St Clair in michigan. I’ve driven on this road more times than I can count, and it’s honestly one of the best roads to cruise on in the country.

29:30 - Did you notice when Walt fell after he got shot that his body was in the formation of a cross? He gave his life to save others like Jesus. Yes, this was intentional by the director (Clint Eastwood).

Thao looked Walts' son directly in his eyes at the funeral. I love that scene so much, it says everything about his growth from a boy to a man. Suffering maketh man. PS: Men need bullying, women need encouragement. Men know this to be true, we just "can't say it because someone's feeeeeeewings might be hurt". Fuck'em.

Movie was suppose to shot in Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Minnesota. It has the largest Hmong population in the United States. Michigan had more tax credits than Minnesota.

Good Morning Vietnam is another classic movie with a GOAT, in Robin Williams playing the main role.

This movie is one of my great 10. It's so fun how you can laugh about almost every scene and then still at the shooting be just as gripped as Walt as he drops his glass... Then laugh again and be gripped... and then to the end you go through a rollercoaster and just can't speak anymore... reading of the will makes you laugh again and then it just closes up so great. And let's just say that his relationship with Sue were so beautiful even though the relationship with Thao were the main focus of the long story I think Sue were the main key of making it work out. Also love that they both were in their first ever movie and it was this one.. sure the acting were not as Hollywood but you don't even care. This movie is just gold!

After the Korean war and during, a lot of Koreans came to America. They open restaurants and were called Chinese. The Koreans didn't believe people would go to Korean restaurants.

I think I have seen some 10 or 12 reactions to this movie by now and yours is my favourite one, probably the first who are not offended/hurt by Walt's way of talking, he is certainly the kind you can depend on. Really enjoyed your reaction and the final comments.

Dudes, you gotta watch Heartbreak Ridge. It’s basically young Walt.

I saw this movie in the theater with my father, also a Korean War vet whose wife died before him (in dad's case, 19 years before he did). At one point I turned to him an said "they made you into a movie" because so many of the mannerisms of Walt were like my dad. The little rhyme the kid says when making the sign of the cross ("spectacles, testicles, wallet and watch") was one my dad used to say whenever I was getting my stuff together for us to go out. This movie will forever remind me of my dad, so it is a favorite of mine.

Nick Schenk wrote the screenplay. He once worked with Hmong people in a factory and later wrote this script. I think this is the first Hollywood portrayal of Hmong people.

Thanks for reuploading this film. This is one of the most memorable, best movies I've ever seen and is such a departure from all of Clint Eastwood's other works up until Gran Torino came out. It subverted everyone's expectations (yes - I saw it in theatres as I worked at a movie theatre at that time). It is however a movie like UP which I will never fully rewatch because I don't know if I have enough tears in my body.

Gran Torino is a hell of a movie. He sacrificed himself because he knew they would be put away forever. I remember seeing the scene with Sue walking through the door raped and beaten for the first time as a kid and it freaked me out so bad I was in tears.

My grandfather was honestly like Walt. His name was actually Walter, he worked for and retired from General Motors working on the lines around Chicago. He watched his neighborhood changed and the crime rate shot up. He was very racist as well, my mom had to tell her own dad he he said that stuff around me then he wouldn’t be seeing me. I watched this movie listening to every racial slur comment and curse thinking “heard that heard that heard that that’s new heard that heard that. I had to alight my ass off. But he also taught me how to repair small appliances, small and medium engines, cars, construction and electrical.

This movie brings me through the ringer of emotions. It's hilarious and sad at the same time...as well as beautiful.

Gentlemen..... I believe you will be in for a treat if you watch a not so well known Clint Eastwood movie called Heartbreak Ridge from 1986 about a Marine lifer who is scared because he is nearing forced retirement and is given a new age bunch of misfit soldiers he must whip into shape preparing them for war. I think it is very much in a similar spirit to Gran Torino.

My grandfather fought in the Korean War & he once told me that its so difficult to go from killing & fighting against people to come home & try to live with it & then see them all around the neighborhood. He was very Blunt & said it was a mind fuck of guilt, adjustment, & scared.

Oh this is such a good movie. My dad passed last Sept and this is one of his favorite movies, always gets me in the emotions.

You guy's should check out Eastwood's "Mystic river" or "American sniper" or pretty much anything he's done.

A Clint Eastwood movie that I have never seen reacted to is called Absolute Power. I went in blind to the theater never seeing a trailer or nothing and was wondering what the hell was happening for the first 20 minutes and it just kept getting better from there. The cast is outstanding and is one of my favorite movies of his. Came out in 1997.

Another good Clint Eastwood directed movie, which he also stars in which you both would enjoy is A Perfect World, which also stars Kevin Costner. Costner plays a role that he doesn't normally play, in that he is an anti-hero...a very emotional movie. Clint is my favourite all time actor

" Outlaw Josey Wales"..."Unforgiven" and " "Million Dollar Baby" ....the trifecta you should watch. Love you guys!

The way I always took this movie is Walt being from a different generation but like you said he would stay to himself his family and just the people he knew, so the different generation, not growing meeting new people from different backgrounds than him. He didn’t have that maturing in that way until Thao, Sue and their family came into his life when he lost his wife an estranged from his sons and their families. That opened him up to be the better Walt 👍🏼👍🏼

I have seen many, many reaction videos to "Gran Torino" and I have yet to see anyone who noticed the symbolism of the way Walt was laying on the ground after he was killed. It is a perfect rendition of how Jesus looked on the cross. Jesus AND WALT gave their lives to save others.

Love how the screen on the basement security door calls back to the screen in the confessional.

The old woman spit out the liquid from chewing tobacco. Chewing tobacco is put into the person's cheek and left there. It make the person salivate more than usual, so they have to spit out the brown liquid every few minutes. People who used that kind of tobacco had to carry around a container to spit in.

My father once drove by Clint Eastwood in the '70s in California. He stuck his head out the car window and yelled "Head 'em up and move 'em out!" like his saying in the show, "Rawhide". Clint gave him the stink eye look. Scared the hell out of him.

Walt is a fking badass. And his racist humor, while not cool anymore, is hilarious in Eastwood's deadpan delivery of it. I've never met a person who didn't think this film was amazing. Walt spent his entire life full of hate and regret, and Sue and her family cracked his shell and helped him become a better man again in his final days.

i remember watching this with my friends cracking up in the theater i love this movie.

Clint is 93 now. wow. Great he is still around.

Clint Eastwood was a really good actor and has proven himself to be an amazing director. If you have't already reacted to it, you should definitely add Million Dollar Baby to your list. He also directs and stars in it and Hillary Swank won an Oscar for her role.

At Walt's funeral if you watch Walt's Sons they look over a Sue & Thao... They FINALLY get Thao loved their father MORE than they did...Especially when the his will was read... I laughed so hard but ❤❤❤

Walt sees great potential in Thao that he doesn't see in anyone else in his life. Which is why Walt decides to no longer be an island and builds a bridge with Thao and Thao's family. It's never enough to go through alone cherish everyone deserving of your friendship and time. Remember life is truly far too short and one day it ends without any warning whatsoever.

It's never about winning. It's just about coming home. But the best part of you doesn't always come home.

I love your reactions, and how sensible and how much common sense they have. I’m glad that ya’ll got this back up and I think it should stay up. You understood his character, and how he is. I actually have known a lot of WWII and Korean vets, and many of them have a deep hatred for the “enemy”. It was tough times, and resulted in very tough and strong men, and they had no problem speaking their mind. My grandfather was almost exactly like Walt in this movie, and my mom and dad both say “yep, that was your grandpa.” He was Irish, grew up during the Great Depression, both world wars, was a cowboy driving cattle all the way to the coast, and just a strong hard man. He also was very prejudice, but funny enough, his second wife (my grandma) was an American born Mexican woman. This story isn’t all that different from my families and this is one of my favorite movies. Walt grew to love Thao as his family (more than his real family), and the entire neighborhood showed up in their best formal respectful dress and loved that White Devil. Walt was so funny and snide as ya’ll said from the will reading. I look forward to more of your reactions, you got a new subscriber. Thank you, gentlemen.

Walt gives two confessions. He gives a half-hearted confession to the priest, to satisfy the priest’s promise to his wife that he get Walt to confess, then he gives his REAL confession to Thao on the basement stairs. It’s even shot with them talking through a screen, just like a confessional.

Loved this movie. Walt reminds me of my Dad - Korea/Vietnam (26 months Nam). Nothing sexy or sweet about him but he had a loyal soldiers heart and when he and his fellow marines would get together - they sounded like a band of pirates and every one of them was a different nationality - BUT ALL AMERICANS

Tao needed a father figure, Walt provided that person!

The screenplay was written to be filmed in St Paul, MN. There is the largest US population of Hmong people in Minnesota and there is a Ford plant that was there for 40+ years that recently closed. The Hmong gang bangers are actually pretty well known actors and 'toughs' in the Hmong community. The cultural scenes are accurate and really important to the Hmong community.
